I want to eat as healthy as I can so I am looking to find caloric numbers for the Disney World menus. If you know where I can find this info please post or email me.

Thanks

There isn't a very good guide out there for calories. The prepackaged items at Disney have calorie counts on them, but entrees at CS and TS, and snacks (bakery, scoop ice cream, etc) generally do not.

When I count the calories it's not a health matter for me (Diabetes, etc), but a healthy matter, and I try to use general numbers from other restaurants for similar entrees. Lettuce and tomatoes have the same amount of calories no matter where you are. Soft serve doesn't vary a whole lot.

Pretty much if you'd eat it at home, it's still ok to eat at WDW.

Sorry I can't be more helpful and offer you an online guide.

I'll be on WW while I'm there but I'm not going to coint points (mostly because I'd never be able to figure out what most of them are!). As PP said, I think if you just follow generic rules, you can stay away from the really bad stuff. Obviously very large pasta dishes with a ton of sauce and cheese are going to be higher in calories than a dish that has grilled meat and a vegetable side. Sauces will up the calorie count so maybe ask for it on the side, if at all.

Also drink lots of water! It always helps. And don't drink anything with sugar in it, they're empty calories.

I agree with that. One of my number one rules. Do not drink your calories. I'd rather have dessert than a coke.

I follow WW also but I have no intention of counting points while I'm there. I don't even intend to be good at all, but that is just me. I'm suffering now trying to lose as much as I can before I go and I'll pay the price when I get back. That being said if any places offer whole wheat buns and grilled chicken vs white buns and beef, that is always a better alternative. I also find myself skipping one of the buns and most of the fries and never missing either.

I agree with the above poster. Drink tons of water. So many times after coming back from vacation people say they have gained so much weight but a lot of it is just from water weight gain.

I am all for eating as healthy as possible most times, but one thing to take into account (if you are doing this for the purposes of being on a diet) is the fact that on average, most people visiting WDW walk something like 10-12 miles each day.

For most people, that is far more than any day in their normal life, so while I don't think you should eat anything and everything you want while you are there, I do think hey...it's vacation, live just a litttttttle. :goodvibes

Add me to the WW crowd. I try to take two hints with me on vacation. I do not snack after dinner. If I want a snack, I try to eat it in the morning or afternoon, then eat a good dinner and do not eat afterwards.

Plus I walk and walk obviously in the parks, and well that earns me extra food LOL!

I also try to drink my water.

I learned a good tip while on Core. I always ask for my steak or fish to be cooked with no oils or butter.

Kudos to you for thinking ahead.

I totally agree with you, which is why I'm not accounting for any points while I'm there. I am going to eat whatever I want and just deal with it later. It is vacation and only one week.

I eat and drink more on vacation than at home...and I always lose weight! Because I walk soooo much!

As others have said, if you are doing WW or similar, counting points is so un-fun! But you are armed with the tools to make some reasonable choices without having to have all the nutritional facts on hand.

Have fun!

FWIW, I have lost 75 lbs over the last year and a half following the South Beach plan, which is basically just healthy eating - whole grains, beans, lean proteins and dairy, fruit and LOTS of veggies. The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to make a lifestyle change, so when we went to WDW in October I was determined to not go back to my old evil ways and to do my best to stay on plan. I figured it would be okay if I had a treat or two each day, as long as I was healthy the rest of the time. I was worried I would be eating nothing but chicken Ceasar salads the whole week, but I was surprised at how easy it was to find good options everywhere we went. I don't count calories, and that is very hard to do at restaurants, but if I were you, I'd just go for the fish, chicken, steak, salads, veggies, vegetarian entrees, etc, and not worry so much about the calories.

I did fine and actually lost 2 lbs. that week from all the walking.

Disney has switched to having multi-grain buns for just about everything so the bun won't be too much of a problem.

You can ask for sauceless pasta and for any sauce to be either removed or put on the side. You can also substitute sides on your table service meals very easily. And remember that with counter service, you don't have to get the baskets. You can order only the sandwich if you want. Or, you can substitute the fries with whatever else they have available. Kids meals always have healthier sides so those are available for adults as well. Just ask. Limit yourself to only water in the parks. Grab a piece of fruit at the stands (each park has at least one place to get fresh fruit). Take your own healthier snacks.

With all the walking at Disney World, my husband and I actually lose weight on our trips.

Another poster said this as well.. it is true that they don't have calories listed anywhere to check out before hand.. but when we were planning our last trip.. i checked out the menus for the restaurants we had ADRs for.. then went on caloriecount.about.com and checked out general calorie info for each dish.. i then had an idea which foods were "healthiest".. i actually wrote it down before hand on little post it notes and put it in my Passporter guide book..

Once I was there I just checked it out every once in a while.. I avoided soda and just drank water.. I tried to not eat fries too much.. and I was able to stay healthy!

I recently lost alot of weight and while I wanted to enjoy myself on vacation.. i didnt want to come back with regrets and I wanted to keep up my good habits!

I can happily say I was able to eat lots of great meals, but stay healthy and not lose track of my fitness goals :goodvibes

Disney is doing much, much better in terms of portions too. They have been working to make their menus more healthy.
