Window or Aisle

I have to amend my statement. If it's just me flying, I'm team window, it's easier for me to block out all the people on the airplane when it's me and the window.

If I'm flying with the kids, I'm team aisle, to keep them in their seats.

This is very true. If I'm flying with the kids, I'm in the middle and they get either the window or aisle that they want. But it's just me on this trip.

I always choose window. I like being able to look out. Yeah sometimes there is nothing to see, but sometimes it’s interesting. One of the best is when it’s storming and you can see the lightning. I also would like to be able to rest my head against the wall if need be.

Would consider an aisle for a longer flight like that though. That way if you have to go to the restroom or just stand, there is no issue (or bother I should say). But for anything less around 5/6 hours or less I’d always choose window.

Aisle for me. When my husband and I fly together, we both get aisle seats across from each other.

I am an aisle person and DH has a,ways loved the window. We used to alternate aisle/middle then window/middle. Recently though he has discovered why I love the aisle and we both sit in the aisle across from each other. He gets into his movies or reads so we don’t talk much anyway on the plane.

I like the freedom to get up and stretch my legs or use the restroom at my leisure.

With my partner or another travel companion, I take the window always. I don’t mind climbing over someone I know to stretch or use the lav, and I like watching takeoffs and landings etc. I also like leaning against the window to sleep.

Solo? Aisle every time. I don’t like bothering people i don’t know to get up.

Aisle. I make frequent bathrooms trips, even on short flights, so want as easy of an access as possible.

Aisle always no matter the length of the flight. I've been on multiple 18-20 hour flights and like the freedom of being able to get up out of my seat whenever I choose.

Window. Because: (1) I like looking out at times; (2) I need the wall to rest on since I usually sleep for at least some of any flight, no matter the duration; and (3) I like having control of the window shade.

The thread assumes that there are both window and aisle options available. Aircraft type is not a factor in the conversation. The discussion would be the same if it were an Airbus 321XLR or a Boeing 777. There are just twice as many aisle seats in the 777. I would certainly think that everyone here would avoid a middle seat if possible.

I like aisle and my wife likes window which means on most of our flights (3 seaters) I get middle

I feel this so much. When we fly, my kids like the window, so we end up with both parents in middle seats. One kid on each window, one parent in each middle, and then one of us has an aisle kid and one of us has a stranger on the aisle. I've forgotten what it's like to not fly middle!

I am the smallest (and shortest) in the family and almost always take the window seat (which I prefer anyway). The taller members of my family prefer the aisle. When traveling with our grandkids, I’m usually in the middle because one of them usually calls “dibs” on the window. On longer flights DH and I take aisle seats across from each other. WDW is about a 2-hour flight from our home airport.

We don't drink anything past early evening the night before a flight, aside from a few sips of water. We try to get the first nonstop in the morning and always get aisle seats. A 3 hour flight is no problem... When other flyers make us get up, it is much easier to step into the aisle. We're too old to climb over people!

Aisle. You can raise the arm rest on the aisle side. The release is underneath the arm rest near the back.

If given the chance, I'll take both - the window seats on an aisle you get with some puddle jumpers or in the business class cabin.

8 hour international flight: if it's an overnight west to east, aisle so when I sleep, I can really sleep. Though once I hit 40, I stopped doing overnight flights in something that isn't a lie flat, as I basically lose an entire day if I don't arrive rested. If it's an east to west, aisle, because I'm drinking all the beverages the airlines offer. Oh, yeah, you do know that they usually offer alcohol in economy on international routes, right?
