Minandmick, you have to think of food budgeting as "empowerment". It means YOU are in control of your finances. I love to eat out; but; I think of 1)gas spent just getting to the restaurant 2) menu prices sometimes are deceiving, you must include the cost of tax and tip 3)what exactly ARE you eating? Most restaurants do not make money on time consuming, expensive dishes with exotic ingredients. Of course there are exceptions such as Victoria and Alberts in WDW. These types of restaurants should be considered special occasion, an event. 4) are you really saving time? You drove there. You waited for your server. You waited for the dishes to be cleared and the check delivered. You had to drive home. Even fast food-you still had to drive there and wait in line and drive home.
As someone who has waited tables, I can say this, you are better off eating at home! Most restaurants are supplied by food service distributors! Buy your own adult libations, put together a simple salad and make a meal.
One 1/2 hour a week with menu planning will save most families a small fortune. Use the internet to search main dishes based on sale meats at most grocers. Good luck to all. I've learned the hard way!
