Easter Ham

Good grief - you about need a flow chart to keep up with this thread and OP!

We got a Honeybaked Ham at either Thanksgiving or Christmas. While it was good, it wasn't great and it sure wasn't worth the money.

The OP's family could always just do what my kids are doing tomorrow. They volunteer on serving and clean-up duty in the Church kitchen and they'll get their Easter Dinner for free after the last Church Service.

I still bought that $1.49lb Target ham though. I'm not sure when we'll cook it.

Do you have a roaster? I always warm my hams in the roaster so I can use the oven to bake. Buy a few smaller hams and use crockpots.

Don't you people have BBQ's? When in doubt, BBQ! Toss that ham on the grill.

Okay...slap that badboy on the radiator then! Cover it in tinfoil first.

Or, cut the ham into cubes, give everyone some toothpicks and a candle, Wallah! hot ham!

Apparently they can afford an expensive ham, but not gas for their BBQ (according to one of the OP's posts).

They did not have the money for the propane but then it was full and they were cooking on the grill. Was another friend an owner of a propane company who had spare propane hanging around that they got out of a apartment they were rehabing?

Wow....this post took on a life of its own since my last update aroun 3:00am last night.

No where did I mention that I could afford or would be getting a Honey Baked Ham. We had always recieved one each year from DH"s previous employer. The employer who did job elimination of many of the upper executives who comfortable made a decent living but now find themselves in a whole new world.

I am learning as time goes by how to handle the situations as they arrive. It was the oven dying and drying with no heat hitting within days that threw me for a loop.

My BFF sent me the part needed, according the the error code on stove. The part did its job, however the broiler element when pop, there was a blue flash and not the bottom element does not ever go off....while there is power to the range.

A friend offered to lend me their oven, which was sitting in their garage because they are redoing their kitchen.
DH & boys went to get it.....it is so awesome. A 3yr old Maytag that fits perfectly into our space. I feel so blessedd that this happened at just the right moment. It looks like we will be purchasing it from them, because the alternative is fixing our stove which would require a $240 part.

As for dryer, I'll have to wait until Monday before BFF can get into her store and help diagnose that problem.

Our applicances are 12+yrs old and used by a large family....thus they have many, many more miles on them then if used by a family of 4.

I was able to get gas for the grill mid-week so we could have hot dogs and burgers....like the meals I had planned for Spring Break.

NOWHERE do ask for any kind of help or assistance expect advice concerning buying a ham or ideas for meals without an oven.
How this gets all blown out of proportion absolutely amazes me.

Again, since we only have ham 1-2 times a year....recieved as gifts, I honestly did not know what kinds were available. Did they all require cooking? Around here people use different kinds of hams, different from what I have ever seen....maybe smoked or something, coming in fabric bag? The only other types of hams I have "heard" of where the ones that went into the oven with a glaze or pineapples on them.

BTW.....my 7th grader DOES still believe in the Easter Bunny, as does my 9yr old. Call us naive, but it is fun for all. We are Catholic and celebrate Easter as do other Christiam, but we also have fun with the Easter Bunny.

My older boys love helping hide the eggs for the girls. What will they be getting in their Easter Baskets?? That is unknown at this time.......call me a poor planner or whatever but I was waiting to see what was going on with the appliances first.
Fact is that the Easter Baskets were never that extravagant. Usually bubbles, sidewalk chalk, kites, and some candy. A new tooth brush, some deodorant and lip gloss.
This year I am using my CVS dollars and another $30 gift card, so we'll see how that works out.
That said.....I DID NOT START a thread about Easter Baskets....someone else had the privilege to include that here.

And to think I though FamilyofFive was harsh last night.....she turned out to be very understanding. Maybe more of y'all will see things differently and realize I am not a begger, not a evil person. I am just a mom trying to make it work for my family. You don't know how many nights I end up in tears.

Wishing everyone a joyful Easter.
May God Bless you, May all your prayers be answered and May you feel His love inside you so that you may burst with Joy and Happiness.

I'm not really sure why everyone is giving the OP a hard time about a ham - just a simple question. Maybe she like Honey Baked but has had a rough time lately and just can't afford it.

I bought my 8 pound ham at Aldi for $16.05. Brought it home, opened it, took a bite and yes it' good enough - actually it was quite good. May never spend $50 on a Honey Baked Ham again.

I plan to wrap some in foil and put it in the croc pot while we are at church in the morning.

As far a gas for the grill, I used a reward/rebate at the grocery store for that.....plus rolling some quarters to fill out the rest of the amount.

See...knowing the kids would be home for Spring Break....which would mean eating more here, meals & snacks, etc. I had shopped and planned almost down to the penny our meals. A lot of the budget friendly meals required the oven. So when the oven died, that was when I started looking for alternative ideas.
And as usual....all the wonderful Disers came through with some great ideas. To them I am very thankful.
Then, the thread hung around long enough for the busy-bodies to read more into everything, turn words around and just plain wanted to start a debate.....to those of y'all: I just hope your life continues to be peachy and you never have to face a hardship of any kind.

We got a Honeybaked Ham at either Thanksgiving or Christmas. While it was good, it wasn't great and it sure wasn't worth the money.

Kind of reminds you of the Abbot and Costello routine...."Whose on first"

Gee, HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

I think I'll go to church and pray for everyone.

If have Adili's in NC there hams is amazing. I bought appletoon sprial ham for 10.00 bucks. I swear taste better than same club brand and honey baked ham.

Thanks for the info about the Aldi's ham. That is the kind of recommendations I was looking for.:thumbsup2

Third hurrah for the Aldi's hams!!! :yay: They are wonderful. We had one last year and I have one sitting in the fridge for tomorrow. $1.49 a pound-bargain!!!

OP, maybe you can put the ham slices in a pot and steam them warm, on the stove top.

Wow this thread is unbelievable but reading it is like a train wreck.:scared1: I don't think it ever hurts to be nice to others though and if you don't want to answer with ham tips just move on.

For ones that purchased a ham at Aldis which ham did you buy that was so good? Our Aldis had at least two different spiral hams. I saw one came with a brown sugar packet. I thought about buying one but wasn't sure it would be good.

I hope everyone has a Happy Easter tomorrow!
