I know that a Honey Baked Ham is a precooked ham that is to be served at room temp....thus no cooking.

Is there any other type of Ham that requires no cooking.

Our oven is broken and HBaked Ham is simply out of our budget.

I was hoping to make scalped cheese potatoes in the crockpot.

Thanks in advance.

Ham off the Bone from the Deli area. Also, you could get a pre-cooked ham steak and warm it in crockpot. Put tin foil on top once potatoes are almost done, place ham on top and heat.

Our grocery stores all sell pre-cooked spiral hams that are just like Honey Baked. Some even come w/the glaze you can put on it - I don't though. They are great & much cheaper.

Thank you.

I'll check the groceries store current weekly circulars to see who has what on sale.:goodvibes

I actually prefer to heat up ham in the crocpot.

Put brown sugar and pineapple on ham and wrap in foil and heat on high for couple hours.

All hams in the store are precooked. Sprial cut would be a very good choice for you. You can just take what you want/need and throw it in the toaster oven / nuke it/ crock pot it. heck you can probably even fry it if you have a hot plate or something like that.

Why not get a regular pan and slice it up and cook it on one of those electric cooking pans/skillets/griddles?

I will be feeding my family of 7.....of which 3 are teenage boys all over 6ft and 2 over 230lbs(football players), also 2 growing girls ( 12 & 9).

Thus I am looking for a pretty decent size ham.

Thanks again.

Costco has ham that I swear is JUST AS GOOD as Honeybaked (I had both types one year over different holidays).

Also, if you do want to put the glaze stuff on and warm it up, do you maybe have a neighbor you can ask to borrow their oven? We used to do that all the time when my husband was in the military! Otherwise, any ham at the store is already cooked, so just set it out. But we did like Costco ham.

Plus, right now a lot of them are on sale. Good time to buy an extra to freeze (if you're feeding growing kids!).

Most hams in the stores are already cooked. I don't think I've ever seen a ham uncooked in the store. All that needs to be done to them is to heat them up -- assuming you want to eat them warm.

I picked up a small ham from Publix that is already presliced. I open the package, lay it all out on a plate, put whatever I'm using as a glaze on it along with sliced pineapples and warm it in the microwave.

Since it's just the 4 of us, I don't bother with a big ham anymore.

I just looked and it's a publix brand, presliced. I got the Honey cured flavor so I'll probably make some sort of glaze using honey and pineapple juices. It was a bit more expensive - 4.99 a pound - but mine is only 2 lbs.

I have frozen leftover ham & it's fine for later if you find a great sale. Turkey breasts are also on sale around here & they cook up awesome in a crockpot! I plan to pick up one or two of those for future meals.

I wouldn't dream of paying what a Honey Baked Ham costs. You're in North Carolina . . . go to Harris Teeter. Your fully cooked spiral-sliced ham will cost $15-$17 with your VIC card. It should be enough for two meals, and you can then use the bone to make some really cheap and yummy bean or lentil soup. While you're there, you can pick up 2 1/2 dozen eggs for under $3 and some Sister Schubert's rolls for 9 cents a package (get the coupon link at www.southernsavers.com). If you want the glaze, warm it in the microwave and spoon it over the ham before you serve it.

Your ham will be great, but I'm a little worried about those "scalped" potatoes.

Anyone have a great ham glaze recipe? MIL sent us a ham from QVC but we used all the glaze the first time we ate it and didn't save any for the leftovers.

I thought your sons were in the band (wasn't that why you were going to NYC, recently?).

Thus I am looking for a pretty decent size ham.

In the spirit of smart spending, I think you need to worry about some of your most basic stuff, first -- you know, stuff like getting the oven and dryer fixed...

darn it! I just lost $10 in the pool - I picked the 19th for the day the honeybaked ham would get mentioned. :headache:

Hams are already cured. Buy a large spiral-slices one at your local grocery and slice some off and heat in the microwave a few minutes.

What is scalped cheese?

Yes, all 3 of my boys are in Band....concert band at school. That includes my oldest who is also in Jazz Band, the Drum Major of Marching Band and in a local band that plays at various places around the Triad. Actually the Band Director was promoted to Asst Principal so I was the substitued Band teacher for a month, until they were able to fill the position. My freshman plays bari sax in concert band and bass drum for Drum Line in Marching Band. My sophmore plays alto sax but has played percussion since 5th grade.
So, last marching season 2 were in Marching Band/
Sophmore played JV and Varsity football....now as a rising Junior he will be playing only Varsity come the fall. My freshman has been asked to go out for the JV football team, due to his size. Not sure he has the discipline required to play football. He may stick with Drum Line, we'll see.

The point being that my big boys are repectfully:
age 17....oldest: 6'1" 185lbs
age 16....next: 6'2" 245lbs
age 14....youngest boy: 6' 2 1/2" close to 253"lbs

girls:
age 12.....5' even (closing in on me as I am 5'2 1/2") around 65lbs
age 9.....shorty, not sure probably 4'8" around 50lbs

The Junior and Freshman went on NYC trip, and I as chaparone. Total cost for 3 of us was just under $97!!!

Blessing: a fellow band parent called about an hour ago. They are redoing their kitchen, waiting for new appliances to come in this week. They have a 3yr old Maytag stove/oven in their garage that they will "lend us" until we decide if we are going to try to fix the control panel, replacement which is $200+ parts only or if we end up liking it we could buy it from them for around that price....working something out.

As for DRYER: my BFF, who owns appliance store in FL will look up part numbers on Monday (she is away camping right now....although trying to help via text) for dryer. We have deduced that it is the heating element. It is a fairly easy fix so DH can do it, just a matter of getting the parts. With her help, knock on wood, we have been able to fix quite a few things (washers, ice maker, etc) for the cost of parts only.

I only referred to Honey Baked Ham because that is brand that I know requires no oven. I was simply asking for other types. Thank you for the tip about Harris Teeter. I don't usually shop there because it is the farthest away from my home and one of the more expensive grocery stores, but that ham sounds like a deal. Lowes Groceries also has a spiral ham on sale. That will be part of my mission tomorrow.

LOL....I knew that scalped didn't seem right.....its scalloped potatoes. I don't make them oftem because they are not the most healthiest choice but from scratch is much better choice than from a box....So I will try.

You already paid your BFF for the part before, or was that just BS? Amazing how you happen to have these emergencies right around major holidays! How did the AG dolls work out for you? Somehow, the prior posts always add up to someone trying to work the system! How was the "food only" trip to New York City?

Thanks for all info about ham.

I am not that familiar with ham in general. Besides the luncheon meat for sandwhiches, we only by a large ham once or twice a year. We used to get a HoneyBaked Ham from DH's work.....that was before job elimination:sad1:

I do know how expensive they are.....like $60+ for 8-10lb ham. We used the local store to "cater" our judges' luncheon at the big Band Festival that we host annually. That will not be the cast this coming year. For that money the band boosters can put together a much fancier, more welcoming luncheon.

So your trip to NYC was? Again, you already paid your BFF for the part for your oven? Not understanding how you could keep begging for tips/help when you supposedly received assistance from your friend for the same problem?
