Oh my!! To have a trip to WDW planned and then to get a storm like the east coast is having. Please, if you are one of those impacted by the storm let us know what you are doing. Have you had to cancel? Are you making alternative plans? How are you going to get to WDW? Did you have trip insurance?

We are going to WDW at the end of March and we hope and pray that we don't have some type of late winter storm that will impact us.

Thanks for sharing

Going in a few weeks and have trip insurance as we live in the northeast and it's February so a no brainer. Since USPS cancelled all mail for today (and they should have it's bad out there) my Magic Bands will be delayed although according to tracking they have arrived in my state at least! Best wishes to all who may have trips planned during this blizzard!

Anyone flying was given the opportunity by the airlines to reschedule - i.e. move up, move back, within a short time frame - or cancel the flight. No penalty, and if you chose to cancel, even nonrefundable fares were refunded.

Walt Disney Travel Company is usually great about weather issues as well. Many reports of being able to reschedule the vacation with no change fee.

I got lucky with my original plan of flying out of Newark 9pm Sunday before the snow started. What was supposed to be an empty flight was packed with people who moved their flight up.

It always amazes me how weather impacts different regions. What the east coast is getting is a regular day for us. But for us to not get rain for two months kills us and other places live with these conditions all the time. I sure hope the east coasters are all ok and nobody has to cancel a trip!

Oh I see now. Saskatchewan.
I'm loving this storm just hoping we keep power. We leave for Florida Saturday! As much as I love a blizzard I am looking forward to some milder weather!!
I hope everyone is staying safe are are where they need to be!

Keeping all our East Coast friends in our thoughts.

Stay safe and warm :grouphug:

Very good thread to start. And folks should keep in mind not just the going, but the returning.

We flew out of MCO Monday morning. The airport was packed with tourists trying to get back one, two or three days earlier than they had scheduled or planned for because of the storm (not enough vacation days to be stuck longer, pet sitter issues, school issues)- plus those of us who were traveling on our regularly scheduled day.

This time of year, it's a very good idea and as important to have contingency plans set up for having to stay longer as much as for the need to delay or cancel the trip before leaving.

And if you do have to try to leave early to get back north into the storm, or even leaving on your regular flight, we had important 2 rules back when I used to travel extensively for work:

1. Make sure you can get out before you check out

2. Think long and hard about the added risk of connecting flights

We had a lot of people on our flight to Charlotte who were continuing on to La Guardia, Providence or Logan Airports. When they got to Charlotte, many of their flights were cancelled since the airlines didn't want to risk having their planes and crews stranded for days up north. Whereas a direct flight that leaves is going to get there 90 times out of a 100.

If you're going to be stuck, WDW, UOR or anywhere in Orlando is often better than fighting for that last hotel room in Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Norfolk, etc with all of the other stuck passengers.......

I for one, would stay, not leave early if I could work out those plans, assuming I could extend my resort stay. That being said, here in Massachusetts we have over 2 feet of snow and it is still coming down. Those of you who got in or out ahead of this are lucky. Logan is still closed and we are still under a mandatory driving ban in the eastern part of the state. More snow expected Fri/Sat and again Sun/Mon so just when the airports around here are getting back to normal all will be a mess again.:scared1: Safe travels to all!
