what are crowds and weather like in early may? we were thinking of doing a trip before i start my summer classes at school after i saw they were offering a deal :) my main concern is i would not have much time to plan or get reservations to places i would like to go to. should i still try to go for it? i haven't been on vacation since 2010!!! or is it better to wait... opinions please

I think it depends on whether you would be okay with possibly missing out on a couple different things if you can't get ressies for them.

The very beginning of May is a good time to go. The weather is still bearable and most kids are still in school. May starts Star Wars weekends so be prepared for higher crowd influx on the weekends and avoid DHS (I believe) if you are not interested in the special events.

I think if you are ok with knowing that you might not get to do everything you would if you planned 180+ out, than I would go.

Should be moderate in early May, as long as it is before shcools start getting out. i am going May 6 to 12, and it is mostly 5 Crowd ratings from EasyWDW. Once Memorial Day rolls around though expect those crowds to be much higher!

my parents want to send me and my bf and i know for a fact he will not go in the summer due to heat and crowds. i just checked online and it looks like i wont be able to have dinner in the beasts castle which is something ive been dying to do!!
its hard going on vacations while being in college. but i miss disney and who knows when i will ever get offered a free vacation again
what to do what to do

I would go! We were there last year in early May and it was great! I wouldn't base my decision on eating at Be Our Guest, because lots of people can't get reservations even 6 months in advance.

You could always try to get a FP+ for BOG Lunch. There's a link floating around here somewhere. I would jump at the chance for a free trip. I wouldn't even have to think about it! The first week of May is projected to be crowds of 3-5 most days. That's about as low as you are going to get during good weather periods! To me, good weather is low chance of rain and warm enough, but not hot. We went 2nd week of May last time and we only had rain 1 day for about an hour. It was amazing.

Found the link!

my last day of classes is may 6th and i start my summer class may 18-june 30th. so i guess it is a possibility. but i was looking on the website and all my favorite places do not have any reservations available. which is a bummer! and since im a huge princess fan i would love to see elsa and anna but i hear the lines are insane!
my bf was actually planning to take me after i graduate which is in 2016. but with a free vacation i dont know if i can turn it down. lol

cool thanks

as sad as it is im actually thinking of turning down the offer and just waiting. i dont get to go to disney often due to the cost. so for me to go i would want it to be special, and to me its just not as special not being able to go to all your favorite places. or am i just crazy?

We did May wrapped around mother's day two years ago and it was GREAT! It was a hot week, which is unusual for that week, but the crowds were great. Mother's day itself was packed with locals, but the Thursday Friday before and the Monday and Tuesday after it was low crowds and short lines. We loved it.

i went in 2010 in the fall and LOVED it. we always said when we go back it would be fall or winter. but after hearing the horror stories about christmas i think we crossed winter off our list lol
i went in the summer before when i was younger and it was way too hot and crowded. i wish i could do fall again but with school its just not that easy :(

I would go. First, you can keep checking for reservations. Cnacellations do happen and you can get lucky. Besides, you could always try new places and discover new favorites. The trip is being given to you, so there's no risk. You might be able to FP Anna & Elsa by then as well. I think you'll have a good time, even if the trip is different than previous ones.

You can always go to lunch at BOG (with or without a fast pass). Thats what we did when I couldn't get reservations. The cupcakes we just as good!

that is true...you never know what you like until you try new things.
is there any way to check if FP are available for anna and elsa? or do you have to have your trip booked first?

i didn't even know they did lunch. good to know :thumbsup2

For lunch, it will be more like a Quick Service Restaurant. You will order at a kiosk and take your seat. They bring the food to you. All you have to do is stand in line, but they do have a FastPass at that link above. It doe snot count as one of your 3 for the day. The menu is slightly different than dinner, and the Beast does not come out to meet at lunch. It's still very good. I did that on my last trip, and am trying dinner this time. I checked for an ADR every day and I was able to get one, so you can always try that as well.

Ill be going may 10-14 and have reservations for BOG that I probably won't use. So I say go in early May for a free trip and who knows you might even get my cancelled reservation.

I just started planning a spur of the moment vacation to WDW for the second weekend in may two weeks ago. I had no problem getting FP+ for everything we wanted. We also got 6:30 dinner reservations at BOG just a few days ago. My advice is check everyday. You might get lucky, we were on the website when it popped up as available so you never know!

thanks for the info and help everyone. im sure it seems silly to be so unsure. lol most of you would quickly jump on it. i guess i just feel a little uneasy because i am so used to planning a year in advance

I didn't even plan my May trip 180 days out. I got it finalized in early February. My last trip in October? Like 3 weeks. It is doable. I have a BOG dinner reservation for my upcoming trip. Get your MDE account set up and keep checking. All the planning can help, but it's not really needed to have a great time.
