Can you check-in early at FW if your site is ready? By early, I'm estimating our arrival time to be about 9:30am.

If you call FW and ask them if your site is ready/available for early check-in, will they tell you?

I'm trying to decide if we should head straight to a park or check-in early at FW (if allowed). It would be easier for early check in so we can pitch the tent before we are too tired in the evening.

We have never been given a site number before noon. You should check in so they know you are there and get your parking pass other wise you will need to pay to park at the theme park. You can leave your car in their lot and take a bus to the marina for a boat to the MK. Or hop on the monorail to EPCOT.

Since I'm assuming that the fort uses the same res system as in the rest of the world, I have read that people can check in at least as early as 7:00 AM, maybe 6.

The answer really boils down to, "it depends".

As in......

The Fort makes pre-assignments of sites-to-reservations. So it depends on if someone was on the site the night before you arrive that you are "pre-assigned" to. If you show up early and no one was on your site last night, you get drive to it early and set up before lunch.

If you show up early and they haven't left yet (and the Fort CMs need to clean the site, blow it, and prep it) you may have to wait before you can drive down to it.

If you insist on setting up right away they will swap you to a site that is immediately available which may not be the site you were pre-assigned to. So it's pot luck-you may have had a great site and be switched to a less desirable site/loop (or visa versa).

When I showed up last month at 11:45 am, I was told someone was on my site but checking out that morning. I was told it was in 1500 but not the exact site. Since it was in 1500 I was willing to wait for it and it took till about 2:30 pm before it was ready.

So it's up to you and what you want. It's give-and-take.

Bama Ed - can one call FW and find out what site has been "pre-assigned" to them?

You will not find out your site number until it is ready for you. Calling FW will not help. We have been checking in at FW since early 80's and most of the check-ins happen by 7:30AM. Sometimes our site is ready and sometimes not. If not, we park in the big lot and begin our vacation stay.

Princess Bette,

I agree with John. They won't tell you the pre-assigned site number.
