eagle scout ceremony

This is not budget related but I know someone here can answer my question!

I'm going to a Eagle Scout ceremony. Is it appropriate to get a card and put money in it? It's a friends son - I know this is a magor accomplishment but not sure what is the norm and if people give gifts at scout ceremonies.

It is absolutely okay to give a congratulatory card and to put money in it. Your presence will be a gift but money is usually the most recommended suggestion for a gift to bring to a new Eagle.

If it is someone you or your family is especially close to, I would think about a silver Eagle Dollar. I got one for a DFriend's son who had been in scouts with DS since cub scout days. They are sometimes a little hard to find, but some banks can help you out or you can order from the usmint.com I think. DS also got one from a friend after he got his Eagle. But as the PP stated, your presence is very special to the Eagle and his family.

Yes a card is a wonderful gift and a monetary contribution is always appreciated.

so if the scout invites 20 guests should they all get him the knife? I always equate this to everyone on the DIS saying you should frame the wedding invite as a wedding gift for the couple. Unless you are super close relative, then just stuff a $20 bill in a dollar store congratulations card and be done with it. What is the ES supposed to do with 20 or 30 useless gifts with an eagle emblazoned on them? Most of the eagle scouts I know are soon to be college bound and a few bucks towards college dorm accessories is more useful than 20 pocket knives or some other useless eagle tchotchke, especially considering most scouts own at least 2 or 3 pocket knives.

Just returned from an Eagle Scout ceremony this afternoon. We gave a congratulatory Eagle Scout card with money.

Unless ou really know the scout, trying to find a perfect gift is difficult. My DS is an Eagle Scout and he enjoyed everything he received (especially the money ) As a previous poster said, heading to college cost a lot of money and my son used it towards college.

Wow, harsh! This is a very nice knife & I'm sure the Eagle won't get 20 of them. DS got one & it is a treasure! The money he got is long gone, but he still has his knife that he treasures. And yes he has probably more like 10 or 15 other knives, but only 1 Eagle Scout knife.
