We live in Fl and have two kids 4 and 2. We Visit Disney 4 to 5 times a year with the average stay 3 to 4day at the swan or dolphin for the location and points. We get free upgrades and most times the Fl rate.

From what I read so far It seems like it would be a good deal for me to join But...

1. how many point would I be looking for? ( b/c we live 2 hours away we try to go when its not to busy, don’t like lines ;) )
2. How easy is to get rooms? ( We do some last min overnighters and some of trips we plan 3 weeks out)
3. This comes for #2 if the rooms are easy to get then why would I buy points like at the BCV at $87+ point when i could buy OKW for $76+ and use my points at BCV (were i would want to stay)?
4. We have to HAVE a none smoking room are they easy to get?

Hi, I'll try to help as much as I can. Points should be based on the number of days you plan to visit per year and the size of the room you need. I would suggest a 2 bedroom for your needs though a one would work fine if the kids sleep on a pull out couch together.

Room availability varies depending on when you go. Since you state you go during slower times that would help. Remember slow times at WDW aren't necesaairly slow times for DVC. Food and Wine Fest in October - Nov. is very busy especialy if you want BCV. If you must have BCV buy BCV.

Non smoking request isn't hard to get.

Good luck with this but I'd recommend doing some more research before a buy in.

DVC works best and returns the most value for those who:

* Visit at least every other year and stay on site in a moderate or deluxe resort when they do

* Can plan at least 7 months ahead

* Stay mostly on weeknights (SUnday - Thursday)

* Use their points to mostly (virtually always) stay in a DVC resort

If some of the above are not true of your situation, do lots of homework before you buy. DVC is not for everyone.

Best wishes -

The use of the points would not be a problem. Its the 7month plan ahead that has me worried. Should I be worried about it?

Since you state that you really would want to stay at BCV, yes, you should be "worried" about it. You are more likely to be able to stay at OKW or SSR or even preferred view BWV, if you consistently book spur of the moment trips.

I see three problems -

As a Florida resident with kids, I'd expect you to be heavy on weekend nights. Fridays and Saturdays are about twice the points - you may be doing better with Florida resident rates.

You are booking less than seven months out. You should plan on staying at SSR or OKW. If this isn't good for you, it isn't a good choice.

You need non-smoking. While most rooms are non-smoking, it is a request, not a guarentee. And DVC members who need non-smoking have been faced with the choice of staying in a non-smoking room or losing points and booking a room on cash. DVC will not refund your points if they can't put you in a non-smoking room. We are 2 for 3 on a non-smoking request. Personally, if I NEEDED non-smoking (we aren't smokers and don't like smoking rooms, but no one has asthma) I wouldn't buy DVC.

Is it really hard getting a non-smoking room? I know my DW would have a fit if she had to stay in a smoking room. She cannot stand the way the rooms usually smell

It isn't hard, most rooms are non-smoking. The problem is that it is sometimes the only thing available, and they won't guarentee non-smoking. So if this is unacceptable, I don't think DVC is wise.

For us, we've decided that if we get a really bad smoking room, we will talk to the management and ask to be switched. If there is no way we can switch, we'd "waste" the points for the night, switch over to a regular resort for cash where a non-smoking room is available, and try again the next morning. But that means willing to shell out money for a room on top of the one you aren't staying in.

The one smoking room we stayed it, any smoking that had been done was not noticable.

Oh, another problem is that occationally smokers will have smoked in the non-smoking room before you. I can't blame them, the CMs at the front desk will give them an ashtray and tell them to go ahead! Once again, you may have luck having your room switched, but there are no guarentees.

I've had that happen before. Usually you'll see someone in a non-smoking room just go outside for a smoke, but I guess there are those who just figure that no one will ever know if they smoked in the room :confused3
