My friend has a Wyndham Bonnet Creek timeshare who wants to resale (167,000 points) to me but my question is we have season passes to Disneyland in California. What is the possibility of transferring points to DVC at VGC for a few nights every 3 months out of the year?
Does anyone have experience with other timeshare points and using for DVC stay?
Any help or advise appreciated. Very new to timeshares of any kind.
Thanks in advance.

I have no experience directly. But my understanding all trades into RCI for DVC is pretty much exclusively 1 bedrooms at SSR in WDW. I wouldn’t expect any RCI trades from VGC as most of those rooms are booked completely by DVC owners (owners of DVC have a hard time trading in at 7 months even).

We have Wyndham points. Rarely go to Cali so didn’t know about the resorts near DL.

We love Bonnet Creek though. It’s a great and cheap place to put large family groups. My family knows we’re DVC members and we get requests for big family trips ALL THE TIME.

Family member: “Can you help me and my wife’s family with a DVC room? There 7 of us total.”

Me (in my head): “That’d use an absolute ton of point.”

Me (out loud): “I have some points avail at Bonnet Creek and it’s great.”

It is great. We love staying there.

Wyndham has two resort properties within walking distance of the Disneyland Resort that could be booked directly with the points from Bonnet Creek.
I've stayed at Dolphin's Cove. Our kids were little so we did not walk, but we really liked our stay here. Note that the Wyndham units have only one bath in the 2BR and 2 baths in the 3BR.

And, good news, if you choose to ride a bus ... the Anaheim Resort Transit has bus stops very close to either Wyndham property!! :)

Having lost my love affair with DVC, I am seriously contemplating buying Wyndham points. I would almost exclusively book at Bonnet Creek but have a TON of questions. I've already done about 5 hours of internet research and feel I have a very basic idea. Here is what I am hoping a Wyndham expert can help em with.
1. I "think" WBC has availability often so owning there is not paramount (we travel off season 99% of the time). Where would be the most economical resort to own as far as MF's & Purchase price?
2. I think that if I buy WBC as my home resort, I cannot exchange into DVC in FL (Saratoga) is that correct?
3. I've seen points for almost free on ebay, and seems legit, but I am hesitant.
4. Please Help me timeshare experts :). From what I can tell, buying Wyndham is the way to go as resellers are almost giving points away just so someone takes over MF's.. is that right?

Thanks in advance for any/all advice or tips!

This is correct. Absolutely. None of the local timeshares can trade to Disney.
FWIW, I believe the mini-systems are excluded from the "50-mile" (?) perimeter rule. As long as one is trading 'points' from the mini-system, rather than a week from the individual, local property ... they will likely get around RCI's restriction for DVC at WDW.

The mini-systems include:
  • Hilton Grand Vacation Club
  • Club Wyndham Access (I *think* this is the correct name for Wyndham's larger, pure-points system??); there may be another flavor of Wyndham points that also skirt the restriction
  • Worldmark the Club (managed and new developments by Wyndham)
  • Shell Vacation Club (managed and new developments by Wyndham)
  • Bluegreen ?
  • Holiday Inn Vacation Club ?
  • others ... ?

@thelionqueen, you may want to direct these questions to the Wyndham Vacation Club forum on TUG: https://tugbbs.com/forums/forums/wyndham-vacation-resorts.47/

This is where I’ve tried to research the most but it’s very confusing. I’m going to try again though. Thank you much!

Awwww, the folks on TUG are quite nice and extremely helpful. Create a free account and ask away!

I'd try to answer more of your questions, above, but I own Worldmark, not Wyndham. (Related ... but not the same.) Best wishes on your research. You got this! ::yes::

Definitely research over on Tug on their Wyndham board. The stickies at the top will show maintenance fees, point charts, etc. We own DVC and Wyndham points. Our Wyndham points are deeded at Wyndham Grand Desert in Vegas (low fees) and Wyndham Smoky Mountains. We like our Wyndham points as much as our DVC points and have enjoyed stays at Wyndham Waikiki Beachwalk, Panama City, Bonnet Creek in Orlando, and Gatlinburg. At 10 months, points are points with Wyndham (think of the DVC 7 month window). We have been able to book what we want at 10 months, but we don’t book peak holidays.

As far as Disneyland via Wyndham, I have seen availability at Dolphin’s Cove, Peacock Suites and Wyndham Anaheim. DVC Grand California resort does not show up in RCI to my knowledge (even a DVC member can hardly book it with DVC points unless they own there).

We had thought about buying W points but have always been able to do a rental thru a company; $700-$800 all in for a week. Even upcoming trip week prior to Easter weekend, booked 4 nights at under $160 per night. Values were pricing $100 more a night

all rentals last minute bookings, a few months out If not fixed on a a certain week, I often see discounted stays the last month or two

I book for bonus trips & after 7 months when I’m not happy with remaining DVC inventory.

Unlike DVC, many Wyndham owners rent in order to subsidize their dues, but not at a rate high enough to pay them.

Thats because in the past the Wyndham mega-renters used their VIP benefits to undercut the pricing for everybody else.

This is why Wyndham made their major changes two years ago.

But unlike DVC, you can make Wyndham renting work at a level on par with being an owner. I bought because my points were pennies to the dollar and because I like control of my ability to make and change reservations.

I wouldn't take a168,000 (not 167,000) contract deeded to Bonnet Creek unless you need the ARP for Bonnet Creek. The maintenance fees there are $6.22 per thousand, which is pretty high. A Grand Desert deed is easy to find on Ebay and the maintenance is only $4.87 per thousand. Everything at Bonnet Creek can be booked at the 10 month mark except for holiday weeks, or if you want a 4 bedroom presidential. Even then, 168,000 points won't get you that unit anyways. You don't stand any chance whatsoever of trading into DVC in Cali with Wyndham points, but the Anaheim property is pretty nice. Dolphin Cove is outdated.

If you live in California, you may want to consider WorldMark. WorldMark has lower maintenance fees than Club Wyndham and is concentrated on the west coast. I live an hour from WDW and have been to every WDW resort and honestly, I find Club Wyndham a better deal. I can stay at Bonnet Creek in a 2 bedroom deluxe using my Grand Desert deed during Food and Wine for only $616 a week. A DVC studio for a week is about $1,000 if you factor in both buy in costs and maintenance fees.

If you buy 20,000 Worldmark credits instead of a Club Wyndham membership, a week in a 1 bedroom in Anaheim would cost you $1,045 and a 2 bedroom would cost you $1,286. If you used Club Wyndham points deeded to Grand Desert, a 1 bedroom would cost you $1,170 and a 2 bedroom would cost you $1,440. If you were deeded to Bonnet Creek, a 1 bedroom would cost you $1458 and a 2 bedroom would cost you $1795. See what I mean about Bonnet Creek being a crappy deed unless you need the ARP?

Here is the current availability at 10 months out for both Bonnet Creek and Anaheim. Both are completely open except for Christmas week.
