I will be renting points for HH in November for a One bedroom. Are upgrades ever done with DVC units? Thanks.

It is very rare to get an upgrade on a DVC point reservation. Usually there has to be a serious mechanical/electrical or severe housekeeping problem that can not be corrected for there to be an upgrade.

It is pretty rare...

We got one a few years ago at BWV, where we booked a 2BR-Standard View and got upgraded to a 2BR-Preferred... (Only reason I think this happened though is that I also had a Studio-Preferred booked for my DS's family and maybe due to availabilty these were the only two rooms that were somewhat closer together..)

We were upgraded from a studio to a two-bedroom at HH in March. There have been quite a few posts about upgrades at HH. I would think it depends upon how booked they are. I felt like the CM's were very accomodating. I wouldn't count on it, but it would be a pleasant surprise if it happens. Have a great trip!

We asked in May at the VWL and the check in CM told us there was availability so she would go ask. When she came back she said, they were sold out. She looked so embarrassed! We felt like we were lied to.

When you stay on points, you get what you paid for. Unless your room is out of service for maintenance or other problems. If you pay cash, you sometimes are upgraded for free. But it is rare.

If you want a bigger, better villa, you'll need to spring for the points.

We were upgraded at BWV Christmas week '04. We didn't ask why, didn't seem like the prudent thing to do.

Upgrades for points reservations are rare and should be. The exceptions are already noted to a degree and include when a unit is out of service and when a resort has a lot of open units. HH Dec to mid March certainly will have a lot of open units other than Xmas. MOST timeshare are reluctant to upgrade members because it can hurt sales of either than or other resorts in the system. But like anything else, it never hurts to ask nicely.

I think upgrades are more likely to happen on cash reservations and that includes DVC resorts stays.

Our very first DVC vacation was a 2bdrm standard at Boardwalk. We were so pleased to be told at check-in that we were upgraded to the gv. We thought it might have been because it was a busy time and we were booked for 2 days Boardwalk, 5 days VB, and 5 days BCV. We assumed they wanted to free up the 2bdrm for week long stays. We just hurried out before they changed their minds.

We've been upgraded twice since '97. Last time was in May'06 on 2 connecting rooms from standard to waterview. In Nov'05 at the GF from garden to top floor concierge again 2 seperate rooms. What a pleasant surprise that was

WOW! Those are really great upgrades. I would be happy just to book a studio standard at BWV and get upgraded to a studio preferred.
