I have been looking over this policy and some things are still not clear to me. I called Travelex directly and they tried to explain the benefits and I was still unclear. So maybe there is someone who could help me understand this a little better.

On the benefits per reservation I see:
Plan Benefits Maximum Coverage per Reservation*
Trip Cancellation Up to $10,000 per plan term
Upgrades $5,000 sublimit
Frequent Traveler Awards $200 sublimit

What is a sublimit? (travelex could not explain this to me)

In my case we are using 3 years worth of points on one stay at Aulani, so I know I would have to buy 3 policies.

Travelex said I would be covered $10,000 x3 so for $30000. Is that right? It says per reservation. So I would think that would be only covered for $10,000 total?

They said airfare is covered but only up to the $5000 sublimit. This is confusing to me because I am not understanding fully what a sublimit is.

I also asked if car rental coverage was included and they said it is part of the sublimit. Still not fully understanding this sublimit concept. Regular trip insurance has car rental coverage up to at least $35,000 in case you total the car. Looking over this policy I don't think rentals would be covered? Or to an ammount you would need if you got into an accident.

Or as anyone added a rental policy to their DVC travelex policy?

A sublimit is part of, rather than in addition to, the limit that would otherwise apply to the loss.

So then in my case I should have asked what the "Upgrades" are that are subject to the sublimit?

For example if airfare is considered an upgrade then that would be reimbursed up to $5000?

Ok I am working off the version here (https://www.travelexinsurance.com/d...cument.ashx?filename=SDVC-0815_0201_00000.pdf) to answer your questions. I am not 100% certain this is the most up to date version although it is the one linked on the purchase page of the Travelex site. You may need to confirm at time of purchase if they have a new version. Also, keep in mind I am not a Travelex employee so these are simply my interpretations of the policy language.

What is a sublimit? A sublimit is a individual limit within the total. So for example there is a $10,000 trip cancellation coverage limit, of which upgrades cannot exceed $5,000 and frequent traveler awards (i.e. airline miles) cannot exceed $200.

Travelex said I would be covered $10,000 x3 so for $30000. Is that right? Sort of It says per reservation. So I would think that would be only covered for $10,000 total? Since the insurance really only covers your maintenance fees (not the value of your points), plus the added benefits like baggage, airfare etc. it may make most sense to only buy the policy covering the points in the use year you are traveling. This would need to be confirmed with Travelex as I am not entirely certain how they handle multiple use year reservations.

They said airfare is covered but only up to the $5000 sublimit. This is confusing to me because I am not understanding fully what a sublimit is. Sounds like airfare is covered under the upgrade section of the trip cancellation and interruption part of the policy. This means they will pay out of your $10,000 trip cancellation or interruption coverage limit (whichever is applicable) but the total for airfare expenses cannot exceed $5,000. So let's say a covered event causes you to end your trip early and fly home but the cost to change your return flight ticket is $700, they will cover it. If you have to get 8 people home and the cost was $5600, they will cap your coverage at $5000. If you only used the $700, that means you would still have $9300 left in your total trip interruption/cancellation coverage.

I also asked if car rental coverage was included and they said it is part of the sublimit. Still not fully understanding this sublimit concept. Regular trip insurance has car rental coverage up to at least $35,000 in case you total the car. Looking over this policy I don't think rentals would be covered? Or to an amount you would need if you got into an accident. This policy is not covering damages to a car you rent or your liability if you damage another person's car. It does however sound like they will pay for a rental car expense to get you to your destination if something happens and you cannot arrange airfare.

Thank you APiratesLifeForMe2 for breaking it down for me. I have been looking at so many policies I was getting all sorts of confused. Plus with using the 3 years of use points on one Trip to Hawaii was also making it muddy. Flying from the east coast during easter is not cheap, and I just wanted to be sure I fully understood what was covered in case there was an issue. Thanks again!

I completely understand! Unfortunately they all advertise their coverage using vague language and then you try to read a policy written by attorneys so you know exactly what is and is not covered to no avail. It doesn't help when you call to ask the people who sell the product and they aren't able to put it into layman's terms for you. If you have any other questions about the policies feel free to ask. I am an insurance agent and while I don't sell travel insurance, I am used to reading insurance policy language on the regular.
