I feel like I'm giving this way too much thought, and beating a dead horse here, but before we buy into DVC, I just want to know what options I'm going to be starting with...
I know RCI could be dropped from being able to be transferred into at any time, but as of now, it's available to DVC members, and I had a few questions about it.
If let's say, I wanted to transfer into RCI for a vacation one of the years, how many points would it require? I have the 2008 dream book, and in there it says 160 pts at the II resorts for a 1-week stay. (looking at the world passport resorts)
Is RCI going to be similar? Anyone have the new version of the dream book they could look that up for me?
Also, the 160-pts they're talking about... is that to stay at ANY of the places they list? or does it vary?
And what if I wanted to stay for less than a week?.. just thinking, if we wanted to take a week-end trip somewhere...or stay 3-4 days through the week.. is that possible? How many points would that require?
I know this has been considered not a good use of the points, and couple of you have suggested to buy into a cheaper TS if I'm going to be trading out.
But as far as I can see, it'd be fine by me even if it's not as great of a deal as staying at a DVC.. only cause we live 1000 miles from WDW, and some years, would rather be able to drive to various places we've always wanted to visit. And unless I'm understanding it wrong, most TS's have a specific place you stay at every year, and I'd like to visit multiple places that were listed in the dream book (although I know those will change with the RCI contract now).
Had calculated it before with staying at a DVC resort vs. a RCI resort, and even though it would take twice the years to "break even", it still left us with many, many "free" vacation years (not including dues).
Any info/help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
