Have been looking to trade into RCI but have read mixed reviews about some of the resorts. Trying for carribean any feedback?

Trip Advisor has some decent insight on resorts. That's where I went when investigating trading into RCI and staying in Cabo. Our resort was amazing! :thumbsup2

Overall I feel TUG and Timesharing today have better info than tripadvisors. Also, some of the dedicated BBS are very helpful if you can wade through some of the land mines. Unfortunately II has better options overall than does RCI but there are some good choices if you can get them. I'd avoid the AI options personally. What type experience are you looking for?

Looking for carribean. nice resort on the beach for my wife to enjoy and scubadiving for me.

I'm not a diver but have picked up a few things. You can investigate from the dive side and cross reference the DVC exchange list. Assuming you want the islands and not Central America, I'd say the Cayman's and ABC islands are your best bets. St. Lucia and St. Marteen are considerations as well though no DVC resort on St. Lucia. You may also want to look at the yacht cruise options. Personally I'd put Aruba first simply because it offers the best of both worlds and there are no options in Bonaire or Curacao. Cayman's will have better snorkeling and good beaches but less restaurants and other options and what there is will be more difficult to access. Of the Aruban resorts on the DVC list, I'd personally only consider Casa Del Mar, Playa Linda, & Costa Linda. While I'd consider staying at some of the others, I'd be reluctant to exchange DVC for them. Personally I'd try to find a direct exchange to one of the Marriott's or even one of the other resorts but for less points.

how can you do a direct trade?
What does "direct trade" mean?
You would look on places like redweeks, TUG, craigslist for someone who has what you want AND/OR you post in those areas what you have and what you want and hope the right person sees it. Redweeks and TUG both have areas dedicated to this issue. There are also other timeshare exchange companies that do not require resort membership like RCI and II do. These include San Francisco Exch, Trading Places Intl, Platinum Interchange and Dial an Exchange plus 2 that are HI based. Often the best approach is to rent out what you have and then rent what you want and that's esp true for Aruba.

I just wanted to comment on the Cayman's, as we were just there in June. I don't know where the RCI exchange resorts are, but we stayed (cash rent - Lacovia) on 7 mile beach and had great snorkeling, a fantastic beach, and a lot of really good restaurants. It was easy either walking up and down whatever the main road that travels up 7 mile beach is - or the taxis run up and down that road all the time too ($2.50 ride). We only went down to Georgetown once.

Don't know if there are RCI options there, but Turks and Caicos is amazing. We stayed on Grace Bay, Provodenciales. We don't scuba, but my understanding is it is a fantastic place for diving....surrounded by one of the most extensive coral reef systems worldwide (65 miles across and 200 miles long).

There are no options for there but there are several of the Yacht option for other similar places like St. Lucia.

The 2 resorts are far away from 7 mile beach. Cayman's is certainly not primitive but many of the resorts are somewhat isolated and a distance from other areas.
