DVC studios - fewer amenities

Hopefully this was DVC wide. I would not be surprised one bit if this goes out the same way it came in, without any official word about it. Than Todd can insist they were never ever taken out to begin with!:rotfl2:

I thought that would be Larry! :lmao:

If this were truly for HEALTH reasons, wouldn't they be delivering sealed-from-the-manufacturer stacks of cups, not loose from bulk, touched by who knows, exposed to who knows what cups?

And...they haven't taken them out of the hotels!?:confused3 It's absurd anyway! Really, how does every other hotel in the world give there guest clean glassware without poisoning them!? This really shouldn't be that hard!

They could certainly use the diswashers at Olivia's to wash studio glassware if sanitation is really the issue..which I don't believe it is..I think it is purely an issue of not being able to make housekeeping do what they are supposed to do. If housekeeping is contracted out, why did they initially do that and surely they can enforce their standards with the company or find a better one.

So, I would like to know...do they actually wash all the dishes in the DW's in the one and two bedroom units between each guest?

It's a timeshare though. Even the rooms with the dishwasher require the member to actually load and clean their own dishes. I don't think people are complaining that mousekeeping isn't coming into their studio daily to clean their mugs. Just that they're no longer given the option to clean their mugs AND they should have clean mugs on day one.

EXACTLY!

I guess i should re-clarify were i am going with my posts...All DVC people that have contracts really dont have a say i guess on what WDW does on things like mugs or glasses or the ddp..now the people that spent the money on the DVC only really have a room or place to stay for probably a week or 2 at WDW per year....Most as we do love it and have a great time either if they stay at pop or the beach club...what is going on is the erosion of the world most of us and you have come to love and it sickens me to no end to see it..This is not about DVC vs Florida residents or people with familys from New Jersey or Iowa or Ohio..This is about what has happened in the last couple of years as far as quality / service and a commitment to those that have stuck by WDW and spent there hard earned dollars toward a place they felt was magic...And there is magic there still but sometimes like this issue for the DVCer's or the DDP for Florida residents... a little more seems to be lost with every stroke of the coperate pen....When will there no magic left to justify the expense???.......

You are right and it sickens us all too! We do see that point but...like others have pointed out the DDP would really be considered a perk and it is one I never used as I did not find it to be a value for us! Whereas, our deluxe accomodations is what we all bought DVC for and they should stay deluxe!

While I agree with Wolverine, that service and quality may be eroding, that is what we are fighting for. Styrofoam is not quality, Windexed glassware is not service. We buy groceries, cook and eat the majority of our meals in room. We rarely eat out at Disney, except for fine dining once or twice. The DDP is also an added expense, not something I took out a loan for.

Hi Everyone,

We're actually at AKV in a studio now. We checked in Saturday, so today was our full cleaning day. When we checked in, there was only disposable dinnerware in the cabinets. Today after mousekeeping cleaned, we were left with 4 glasses as well as 4 mugs. Maybe it's just a coincidence?? :confused3

I think this is very hopeful. I'm sure there is a reason very few of us have yet had responses to our emails; I think the whole fiasco is being reconsidered.

I really cant believe the up roar over this...where were all of you when alot of us were making alot of the same points about the ddp????...

I don't use the ddp, but I do use the DDE and wrote a number of letters expressing my displeasure regarding the automatic inclusion of the gratuity this year. I did get a call back in a timely manner, but the gratuity is still included!

That wasn't DVC and I think that makes a difference. I can more easily live with the added on gratuity than I can with styrofoam and paper cups in studios. I do not expect this policy to remain in effect.

I have to say I think we had styrofoam coffee cups at POR and POFQ last year(glasses for water though). I didn't think anything of it then, but in this case we are supposed to be in more deluxe home away from home resorts with a small kitchenette.

I was in POFQ in Aug and I had mugs, glasses and paper cups.

On a brighter note, the weather here has been wonderful. Nice and breezy, not too hot. The parks are crowded, but if you go early and use fast pass, it is very manageable. Having an awesome time!

Off to the Wilderness Lodge for dinner at Whispering Canyon. Will try to check in later if anyone has any questions.
Please let this be the new/old policy:worship:
I really hope they saw the light....that is too coincidental:confused3

You don't want to mess with someones coffee mug....bad things happen;)

This, plus many of the other recent changes, lead me to believe that DVC is treated like the unwanted stepchild of the WDW resorts.

DVC should be the ideal - I keep hearing about all the upgrades from a $99 Value or a $129 Moderate to a 1BR in DVC (to entice guests to join). Disney seems to like pushing DVC on guests. Yet, our ammenities many times fall below Value accommodations anymore.

Seriously, for the $250-300/night cash rate for a DVC studio, I can stay at a luxury resort hotel off property that will BLOW AWAY most DVC studios. Sure, it's not ON property, but I'd get housekeeping every day. I LOVE my DVC, but it in no WAY compares with Ritz Carlton or the Peabody (similar cash rates - check out Expedia - many times the rate is 20-40% LESS than DVC!).

Another instance... free dining. At certain times of year, WDW offers VALUE resorts for $79 a night AND gives the guests (up to 4 per room) free dining! Of course, you have to purchase the package (so those of us with AP's would have to re-buy park admission), but what kinds of deals do they give us, you know the one's that actually PAID a large sum of money to build these beautiful resorts for Disney? We had to FIGHT to get access to the DDP!

Honestly, sometimes it seems that, not only are we taken for granted, but sometimes even that we're being taken advantage of.

Vent over. Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Hello all,

I agree with this assessment as well... I believe they(DVC)were totally unprepared for the response to this change that they received and are looking for a way to save face.

What better way than to have the mugs and glasses "magically" start reappearing??:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I believe this may be one instance where the squeaking wheel is about to be oiled:cool1::cool1:

I have read whole thread, but haven't been able to post as I've been taking care of a sick baby - he's all better now!

Here are my thoughts:

1. It seems that more members are upset that this new policy in some way suggests that we as DVC members are 2nd class WDW guests. Although I can totally see how one could feel this way, in my humble opinion, this should be secondary to the fact that using styrofoam and plastic is absolutely destructive for the environment - adds to the garbage piles, doesn't break down, dangerous for kids/animals, full of chemicals, etc. You get my drift - this bugs me more than anything else.

2. If Contemporary has a problem with housekeeping, than why isn't Contemporary utilizing plastic/styrofoam? As many have suggested, it feels like we are being used as guinea pigs, and this is a problem. It does make perfect sense though that we are the guinea pigs as we've already spent our money and are very loyal to WDW.

3. We always wash our own glasses/mugs etc. at DVC as should everyone else as there could have been a number of unsanitary fluids (we need not go into specifics here) in them - many times, we just use our own sippy cups, bottles or mugs. Hot water really does a great job of cleaning stuff - we don't use the Palmolive that was provided as it has too many chemicals in it. We bring our own dish soap, laundry soap, shampoo and hand soap as we have allergies/sensitivities to worry about.

Bottom line is that we are a huge green family over here, and this new policy is the farthest thing from that possible. If there is an issue with housekeeping, then Disney needs to fix it and not put a bandaid on the situation, as this new policy surely is. I'm not sure what Disney is thinking - if housekeepers don't have enough time to do their jobs, and that is why they are cutting corners with cleaning glassware, etc., then how in the world are they going to be able to keep up with the mounds of garbage being generated from plastic/styrofoam? Yikes! I already can't stand seeing bags of garbage all over the DVC resorts outside of rooms, so this is going to be a total eyesore and in fact, has added even more to their workload.

Hopefully this will force many different groups - health units, governments, and hotels themselves to realize that cleaning/sanitizing in between guests should be the top priority of the hotel (as well as security).

I hope this all gets straightened out in a way that is not harmful to the environment, nor to the children (styrofoam is not good for kids - choke, choke)) or animals that are present at WDW.
