DVC studios - fewer amenities

I didn't know what you were referring to, so I went on line, and they're more than $5000 each. They don't look that large, why did you pick 7?

Some of us began e-mailing on Sunday. Has anyone gotten a significant reply?? I have had 2 "canned" responses, from the 2 that I e-mailed. I've sent 2 letters through the postal service as well. I think there will be some phone calls soon.

Bobbi

Send email, got a phone call but was not home, will talk to them tomorrow. While they are listening anything, else I should ask?

You know, I can't think of anything that has galvanized opinion as this has. I hope you can get your point across in a convincing way. Best wishes.

I'm not the OP, but I think they were figuring one for each on property DVC resort?

One for each resort.
The ones we got for the place I worked in were undercounter models, and I think were around a thousand bucks, at the time.

OK, I saw a Eurodib brand that is about 1/2 the price of the Hobart.

It says it has 2 baskets for glasses, and does 30 "racks" per hour. So in laymans terms, about how much glassware is that per hour? I'm just curious how much employee time these things would take to do all the glassware. 30 racks per hour sounds like it is quite speedy.

They run under 3 minutes per load usually.

So far, between this thread, the mug poll and the revised mug poll, we have 985 responses and counter-responses. Wow! This is a bigger issue than one might have expected. :cool2:

Has anyone heard back from Disney? I haven't gotten a response yet, and it has been 5 days since I sent an email.

Nope. I sent two e-mails on Sunday and still haven't heard back, even though I was promised a response within 5 days. I've since e-mailed again, quoting their promise of a response within 5 days. This weekend, I will begin writing snail mail letters.

If they don't already have dishwashers at the resorts, then I would love to know how have they been dealing with cleaning the glassware up until this change was implemented. Did they just figure out that they need dishwashers and then decide on pulling the stuff from the studios?
Surely the resorts that are attached to hotels already have access to commercial dishwashers...as someone already mentioned the only ones without this might possibly be OKW and SSR because they are the only stand alone DVC resorts. So they might only need 2, but I'm sure there are issues with those resorts because the villas are so spread out at those resorts.
This is an issue that should have been resolved *before* they were constructing - during the design process for the resorts *not* now.
Aha! Perhaps they are attempting to contract out the housekeeping and the contractor is saying they won't clean the glassware the way the CMs in house have been doing it.
So their quick fix is to give studio guests low quality environmentally unfriendly, but *light weight* disposables because they suddenly discovered they will not be able to wash glasses and mugs in a way that is quick and easy for the contractor to do it.

I believe houskeeping is already contracted out.
Someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong.

As far a I know, at least some, maybe all, housekeeping and bell services were contracted out 2 or 3 years ago.

So let's say it's already contracted out...now they are negotiating a new contract, and it's going to cost them a lot more $$ to carry on cleaning the glassware and mugs than in the previous contract. Same thing - quick fix is to remove them and replace them with disposables and hope nobody notices.
In my auto response I had to my email to DVC Member Satisfaction there was a comment about how they might have to forward my comments to a third party. This third party might be the housekeeping contractor, no?

No there are no blenders stored in the studios, but it is (was) an item on the list posted that you can request. I have requested the blender several times and it is brought promptly.

Where's this list? Can you request anything that the full kitchens have?

Someone did mention that there were no commercial dishwashers at DVC resorts (those attached to a regular hotel might have some access, and AKV is currently mixed use).

People keep saying this, but, they all have restaurants and bars. These establishments would be required to properly sanitize their glasses and I doubt they have their dishwashers running 24 hrs a day. It ought to be relatively easy to arrange access. (Yes, the dishes may need to be transported around the resorts, but, the Poly has 10 buildings, POR has around 30 and they've figured out transport there.)

I might point out that the housekeeping exposes have made some of us leery of using the paper plates and bowls because we cannot clean them properly. After all, if someone is mishandling glassware, then, they are probably mishandling paper products too.

I'd also discuss the "bubble theory" that Kerri brought up. They have the system so well set up. We land at the airport and ME makes sure we don't stop along the way to buy food so that we will buy everything from them. However, now they've created a situation where a family can't even have a glass of juice, cup of coffee and bowl of cereal in their studio at the start of the day. So, more people will decide that they need to rent a car, or place an order with Garden Grocer. Once we've decided to purchase plates, bowls and cups, we'll probably buy a whole lot of food too, thereby taking our money out of their bubble.

Wow! I finally caught up! I got started reading late and was only managing to make gains (relative to the end) of about 3-4 pages per day. I kept hoping that I'd hear somebody got a proper response. I'm going to wait to hear what Sammie is told and then start my own email, fax, phone and mail campaign.

I found the Environmentality awards from 1993 to 2006 right on Disney's website

(Post count is too low to post regular links, sorry)

We have a lot of writing to do because I'm not seeing green, I'm seeing red.

Instead of spending time to screw with your members, spend time with your housekeeping employees and train them to clean properly. If the Contemporary hadn't got caught with their pants down we probably wouldn't have this longwinded discussion now.
Most kennel employees at the local pound would not do the things to animals that Disney's housekeepers do to people! Maybe the hotel industry needs the same type of oversight that the ASPCA and others have to regulate the pet industry.

And Disney.... clean up your own house, before you think to clean ours.
We all spent heavily to purchase your "Home away from home", "Best kept secret", etc. because Disney is known for their customer service.
The old adage is: "Take care of your customers and they'll take care of you" and my business adage is: Please one customer and hopefully they'll pass it along to one new customer, screw one customer and they'll tell twenty!

SMARTEN UP DISNEY! You talk a good line, now prove it!
Styrofoam cups are not "green" and they don't belong in a "Home away from home"
Well Said!!!

Good GRIEF! I cannot believe what I'm reading! I haven't been on the Dis for a long while and I'm so glad for it now! It is simply inexcusable that DVC has made such an environmentally irresponsible move that could potentially impact the preferences of the OWNERs. Everyone has more than adequately outlined all the pros and cons here, and again, thanks. We're staying at BWV in June in a studio and I'm glad to know I'll have to bring mugs!

FYI, not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but when I logged into my DVC account, there was a note on the page that said "DISboard Member"!

Look-out--the Mouse is watching! At least maybe someone's paying attention to our concerns.

You're kidding, right?

Huh??? I sure don't get this.

DeBorges not sure what studio you're staying in at BWV but they have ALWAYS had ceramic coffee cups and glass drinking glasses. Our last trip was in Dec '07 and there four blue ceramic coffee cups along with dish detergent. I washed our coffee cups everyday after using them.

We were just there in Aug. and we had glasses and mugs! And it wasn't a lock off!
