DVC studios - fewer amenities

I don't think that running a dishwasher program for a few mugs and glasses is kind to the environment.

Surely, once DVC have provided clean items in the studios, their responsibility ends and it's up to the guest how clean (or otherwise) they keep it from then on.

A dishwasher in a studio is not the answer IMHO

I agree! Just give us our dish soap back!

But they could be from Disneyland's inventory, if they had ordered them in bulk, since CA will be restricting their use.

Sort of like "We've got 50K foam cups we can't use at Disneyland, let's send them to Florida, they'll find a use for them."

Ok--maybe I'm out of the loop even though I live in Calif. (quite possible) but I don't think the styrofoam ban is state-wide. The PP was referring to a city ban in Calabasas I believe? I know that lots of cities have looked at doing this but I believe only a few have really enacted it.

not that Disney could not have over-ordered cups! LOL--that too is quite possible!

I'm really only annoyed about the dish soap bc I find we use that alot.

If I request some from the maid will she give it to me? I hate to pack that stuff and have it leak.

Let's face it, the dish soap is needed! I never used that whole bottle of dish soap and I don't know how much others use, but it seems they could at least leave some packets of dish soap! (Like the sample size that gets sent in the mail)

From housekeeping at OKW - I was told the soap and sponge are still there

I will be in a studio on Sunday at OKW - I will post then!

Some websites are reporting the OC is being encouraged by some of the cities in the county to consider a styrofoam ban. And we know how Disney will want to promote that they are already "green and foam free." Especially since Disney is a driving force behind the Anaheim redevelopment effort.

LOL--well, then I AM out of the loop because I live in Orange County and had not heard this!

It is not state wide, but Malibu banned styrofoam last year. We are in Agoura Hills, which is bordered by both Calabasas, and Malibu, and there has been no mention of styrofoam here, but it's all over the front pages of the local papers. It seems it is just a matter of time before the idea spreads. There has been no real opposition to the ban.

Thanks. Do you think Disney bought it cheap from those places? Maybe that's why we are getting it in our "homes".
:lmao:
I think this was done because they don't take the glasses somewhere and wash them between visitors. I wonder if they wash them in the rooms. Someone did mention that there were no commercial dishwashers at DVC resorts (those attached to a regular hotel might have some access, and AKV is currently mixed use).

DVC was probably imagining TV sneaking cameras into the studio units to see how well the glasses got washed. No more glasses, no more housekeepers washing the glasses.
But now we are getting styrofoam that are not wrapped....gross(I would like to see the report of the mousekeeper blowing her nose then getting my cup)....just to be clear....I don't want styrofoam at all.
OK, second post on this thread. Let me see if I can be a little more level headed. Most people disapprove, some don't care, and a few think it's good. I don't plan to use studios, but I may in the future when the kids fly the nest. It has no bearing as it is still DVC deluxe units. I believe they should have full service for 4. There is a sink and soap. They don't have full service for 4, OK fine, disposible plates and bowls; glass and ceramic mugs. We've all read "my stay was crap threads" due to housekeeping or problems with the rooms. There will always be problems with rooms; including cleaning, things missing, and things broken. I do, however, expect clean linens, clean bathroom, clean floor, clean bedroom, clean fridge, etc... When you check in (or walk in) you should feel pleased to be here. You should not need to scan or "go over" the room to see if it is ready. First appearance is a lasting appearance. If something is not right, call the front desk. I've had issues in the past. The best resolution was face to face at the desk. You call, nothing. You call again, nothing. You call again and say 'I'm on my way'
and then you get 'you don't have to come down', we'll fix it. If you are not face to face I don't get results. If that person can't handle it, ask for a supervisor. Most complaints are minor and can be resolved on the spot.

This change is across the board. The higher ups made it and want to call it policy. This is not an issue, but a policy. If there is a problem washing glasses and mugs, fix it! Don't take them out of studios. If you want sterile disposible cups, fine, add them. But please give enough cups for a families vacation. It is a service issue.

The only way DVC or Disney knows is by feedback. Good or Bad, let them know.

Ralph
Exactly.....which is why I won't give up till they give me mugs....It won't look good for them if they don't....especially if someone would ask me what is the problem. I'm sure hotel guests would be shocked that disney's "best kept secret" is Bottom line first....guest satisfaction second....

I can see truth in this.
In addition to the 250 +/- DIS members who have responded to this thread, there are the guests who are complaining either to the Front Desk and/or Mousekeeping when they find only paper, plastic and styrofoam in their studios. Then there are the folks who respond to the on-line surveys sent to you after check-out. I have a feeling that the complaints coming in to Mousekeeping and to the Front Desk will carry a lot of weight. Member services can send out a canned response to our e-mails, but cast members at the resorts are having to deal directly with unhappy and irrate guests. This takes up a lot of time which creates a backlog at the Front Desk and in servicing rooms-leading to more complaints. Add to that all the trips Mousekeeping is making to replenish supples and the amount of CM time spent on this begins to add up. Put all this together and I bet this paper, plastic, styrofoam issue is being rethought already.

Yes.....not everyone will complain.....but there will certainly be alot....CM's will be complaining....

I hope so...
On the Member Site, DVC credits "Member Feedback" for the soon to be enforced if not already, "no charge policy" for the internet. Members certainly are giving them feedback on this policy!

I hate that I will now have to pack mugs and dishwasher detergent on top of sugar and a plate. Such a small thing, but it hit a nerve with me.
Just a small nit pick. You'll need to pack dishwashing detergent. Dishwasher detergent (for the automatic dishwasher) should still be supplied in the 1 and 2 bedrooms. Maybe that's what you meant, but I wouldn't want you haul something you can't use all the way to Florida!

I just filtered through as many pages as I could stand ;) and collected all the contact information so that it will be in one place. Hopefully that will make it easier for people to use. Hope it helps!

I thought it was worth reminding people of the contact info.
Does anyone know if the Environmental Initiatives address is the correct one to use for Kris McNamara, Vice President of Corporate Environmental Policy?

I sent an email to DVC Member Satisfaction on March 9 and in their auto response they promised a response within 5 business days. Haven't heard a thing yet, and today is day 5. I'm sending off a letter to Jim Lewis today, but I would also like to cc Kris McNamara.
Has *anyone* had a response other than the auto response? My guess (OK, my hope) is that they are staggered :scared1: by the response (negative) to this policy change has generated, and the delay is being caused by them trying to figure out what they are going to do next.
In the mean time, definitely keep those emails and letters going!

How about we all enter in the Family.com Great Green Challenge at http://family.go.com/contests/green-living-contest/?CMP=NLC-WR1310469291 and all submit that we all tried to make a subsidiary of a very large entertainment company be more environmentally friendly!

Great idea DisZip!
Here's a laugh...I clicked on the link you posted, and guess what ad was right there on the page?
'Select Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts...HOMELIKE AMENITIES...5nt/5day vacation with Theme Park Tickets. $111 a day per person....Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa or Disney's Old Key West Resort'
I know this point has already been mentioned but seeing this ad on a page that is all about 'The Great GREEN Challenge' really gets me started all over again.
In how many homes do people have these *amenities* (and no other alternative): paper plates and bowls, plastic cutlery and now foam cups and plastic glasses.
Please keep sending those emails and letters.

I just sent off my second. A much better well thought out lengthy letter this time compared to my first email on day one pretty much saying this stinks and tell me it's not true. Alot of thoughts and ideas have been discussed during the week via this thread which helped.

If they are giving us all disposable dishes and taking out the dishwashing soap, how long before they remove the sink? What do we need it for anymore???

This is what I just sent to the DVC member satisfaction link:

This is my second e-mail regarding the new policy of replacing ceramic/glass cups with styrofoam. I didn't like the "unwrapped" paper plates and bowls just lying loose in the cupboard...now you're adding "unwrapped" loose cups to the mix! I'm not sure how "clean" these things really are. They are just as "clean" as the person who places them there! It would be great to have these things all plastic wrapped in order to be sanitary.

I would much prefer to be able to wash my own ceramic plates, bowls and cups (also glasses) in the kitchenette sink. At least I was able to reuse ceramic cups and "real" glasses. Why can't the housekeepers remove the items after a family leaves and replace them with a new set which has been washed in a dishwasher?

Not only do we have the sanitary issue, we have the "green" issue that Disney has been so proud to endorse. You can sleep up to four in a studio. How many styrofoam cups will that waste when you consider coffee's, teas, juices, sodas, waters, milks for four per day? That's not only costly for Disney...it's costly for the environment to be damaged by TONS of environmental waste! You must have read studies on how long it takes to break down styrofoam. Your trash recepticles will overflow with this stuff.

We are coming down to stay in a studio in a couple of weeks. Please give us our ceramic mugs and glasses back. This is supposed to be our "home away from home". We don't want to feel like we're staying at a "fast food" restaurant. We want to feel at home with our "mug" of coffee or "glass" of juice. Also you can't put styrofoam in the microwave like you can a ceramic mug.

It's a little thing to DVC but to those of us that stay in a studio...it means a lot. We're looking to buy more points but have fears that if
if this is taken away..what next?

Thank you. I am hoping to hear from you soon.

Patiently waiting,

As I said BWV BCV never had ceramic mugs or glass cup I have stay there in this level room and never had it the only major chnage would be the dish soap .

SO as Chusck S said "at least OKW" well that is not all of DVC .

DeBorges not sure what studio you're staying in at BWV but they have ALWAYS had ceramic coffee cups and glass drinking glasses. Our last trip was in Dec '07 and there four blue ceramic coffee cups along with dish detergent. I washed our coffee cups everyday after using them.

I just sent my 3rd email(2 to M.S and 1 to Mr. Lewis) with a very similiar letter.
I also spoke with M.S yesterday.
No response on the situation yet.

LOL--just got my Disney Insider via email--and prominent on the home page is a link to a contest where you can win $5,000 by telling Disney about an idea you've implemented in your home, community or work to make it more "green"--I think we should all join the contest and indicate that we've encouraged DVC to go back to the non-disposable mugs and glasses as our contribution to the environment . . .
