DVC studios - fewer amenities

Rumor has it they heat to 82....what was it...I'm afraid to ask.
Kerri

There was a situation where they changed the policy and stopped heating the pools, or at least only starting heating them once they drooped under a certain temp. People really didn't like it. It was a big deal on Dis and after a few months they changed it back.

The argument that there aren't obligations to provide certain basics because we bought points and not a piece of property doesn't hold water. The obligation is there, and supposed to protect members' best interests.

In New York City, hundreds of thousands of people own something called a "co-op." They do not own a piece of real estate. Condo purchasers own real estate.

Co-op owners own a number of shares in a particular building. A certain number of shares corresponds to a specific sized apartment.

Starting to sound familiar?

The co-op board is charged with maintaining the entire property (common areas as well as private residences) to a standard which is spelled out in the bylaws. Co-op owners are given the right to occupy a given unit as long as they pay their dues and abide by the rules and regulations. Most of the time, co-op owners are allowed to "sublet" their residence, but are usually restricted to how often and for how long they can do it.

The co-op board cannot just decide that oh, I don't know, light bulbs for example (pulled that one right out of the air), are no longer necessary to the common areas or private residences, or to some of those areas.

So we purchased "points" rather than "shares." It is the same concept. We are given the right to occupy a certain sized residence for a certain amount of time based on the number of points that we have purchased.

Then again, each resort has its own condominium association, so maybe we own an interest in a condo.

Any real estate lawyers out in Dis-land who could weigh in?

The point we bought are nothing more then the vechicle used to secure a reservation.

So, based on this, um, logic, it sounds like Disney doesn't owe you anything but a reservation, somewhere? So, you would be ok, if you called with your points and got a reservation in Bubba's chicken coop out behind the Magic Kingdom? After all what is in the contract means nada, right? The only need to supply you with a place to sleep (and drink vodka and beer) in?

I bought a real estate interest in an exceptional Disney Vacation Club Resort (according to Disney's website) Real estate is real property, not a point. The points are vehicles to secure the usage of the property as described in our contracts. The real property was sold with assets inside of it as part of the package. They can be replaced with items of similar or greater value according to contract. Cups, glasses, towels, beds, curtains tables, chairs, televisions.

Using your 'subject to change' logic they could pull out all the furniture, the appliances and the television and just supply you with shelter. You can drive to Publix to furnish it upon every visit?

That kind of thinking reminds me of the timeshare salesmen in the '70s.

Condo - is a form of division - - If it is a building - you own the space called for in your condo deed - but not the building or common area. If it is land you own the parcel of land called for by the division of the larger parcel - you do not own the common land.

The term Condo is a form of ownership not necessarily real estate.

Maybe 250 people here are upset out of the approx 165000 members

.

How would Disney know if the other 165000 members are upset. They did not inform the membership and I suspect many will be surprised when the arrive in their villas.

Explain to me why, I should spend my valuable vacation time and money on transportation to make a special trip to Publix to spend money on disposable cups when my dues have already paid for the mugs and glasses to be in the room?

I'm sure your sentiment would be totally different if you were told, hey, bring your own TP. Go to the supermarket and POOF, you have toilet paper.

:thumbsup2
BTW, we do bring our own two-ply TP on every trip and leave the remainder of the roll when we leave. Maybe someone will get the message.

Hmm, if Disney is planning on getting rid of the palmolive and sponge from the Studios they may want to consider re-filming their virtual tour of the studios. Unlike a hidden mickey, the proof of the existance of the dishsoap is right there for all to see.. shhhhh

Wow, one of their virtual tours even shows the (gasp) non-existant glassware. Oh the humanity. :lmao:

Maybe they are virtual glasses?

So that is what .660% of the body or the members.

It would not warrent a change in disneys eyes.

Ohhh....I get to quote the poll now! The new one! Sweet, oh here goes.....so far....out of 144 people over 53% are very upset, to the point of wanting to complain and another 21% disaprove, but will probably stay quiet. (as of about 4:59 pm today)

This can be considered a collective sample....which includes different age ranges, membership locations and lengths of membership. Something that Disney would want to do in any test case, to determine membership feelings without having to send a letter to EVERY member. With a 74% negative response, I think that Disney would say this could warrant a change (at least in the DVC units, where the policy change occured and the sample taken from).

There has never been glassware. It was all a dream..

Thanks Chuck! Now I'm getting dizzy. Will someone please pass me a styrofoam glass of water?

I just wanted to join my voice to those who have sent e-mails regarding this subject. We are taking my brother, sister-in-law, and niece in June and are each staying in a studio. I am going to be embarrassed to "show off" what is like to be a DVC member.

Another thought, I went on a tour last fall and they said that all divisions run separately and each need to turn a profit. I bet the dining division won't be pleased when their profits start to go down because everyone staying in a DVC studio steals 30-50 cups!!!

Ditto for me as well!!!!

On Tuesday I was feeling insipred by this thread. If you don't like it don't just complain to yourself. Let someone in charge who can makes changes know about.

So I called the city to complain about the condition of the road in front of my DD's school. It is a terrible mess. The whole road needs to be redone next year when the construction is done, but for now patch needs to be put down on the numerous large pot holes.

24 hours later and the road is patched! It ain't perfect, but it is much better.

I feel good. I can't believe all it took was one call. Why in world didn't anyone who lived on the street or even the school principle think of it sooner I don't know. I sure am glad I called. :thumbsup2

I really believe with all the feedback they are getting this new policy will not last long. Does anyone remember the pool temps a few years ago?

Good for you! My DDiL was telling me a story in which a safety hazzard was taken care of at our DGC's school after she called.

I hope we get results that work for us! I know that I would be happy if Mousekeeping will bring us the ceramic and the glasses. Maybe not everyone wants or uses them, but if we do, I think they should be provided. I suppose I also am hoping that we can still get blenders and wine glasses as before.

Some of us began e-mailing on Sunday. Has anyone gotten a significant reply?? I have had 2 "canned" responses, from the 2 that I e-mailed. I've sent 2 letters through the postal service as well. I think there will be some phone calls soon.

They are trying to gather all the glasses and mugs back up and next week we will get an email that says "they have been returned to the unit"......or Jim Lewis is asking "when did we do this and why wasn't I told?"

I'm sorry but it's not just that they're taking away mugs and glassware. It's the principle for me. If I, indeed, only bought a timeshare, does that mean that I could feasibly go to my studio shack and find there to be no drapes on the windows? Or TP, or bar soap? I have certain expectations....after many stays in my studio shack, I have come to expect that I will have a glass for my juice or milk. It's bad enough, as I said before, that I have to reuse the same paper bowl for three/four days..but how the heck am I supposed to wash it now that they've taken away my soap and sponge? I'm sure that housekeeping is going to be thrilled with the huge number of calls they are going to be getting every day to replenish our papergoods.
Nope, today it's mugs/glassware....what's next? Hey, I'm a child of the 60's...we did that rabble rousing thing at our colleges...I think I still remember how to rabble rouse.:hippie:
