DVC studios - fewer amenities

Excellent idea. Since peanuts worked for Jericho, how about we send scads of styrofoam peanuts to Member Services?

I would rather send an email. I don't have many stamps around my house. I need to go get some come to think of it.

I have not sent an email because I didn't want to jump the gum (I heard through the grape vine this might be the case.) It does seem this is official policy and I am waiting to hear a few more peoples responses, and then I plan to send an email. I think that if enough members respond they will not keep the policy.

AKV is where we are staying in May. I guess sending an email is on my to do list. We often buy a coffee mug while there because we collect them at home, but still it is nice to have them in the room. The glasses to. Heck I keep my rings in one the glasses so I don't lose them at night.

Is this solely in the studios? Sounds like i may need to add to my list of things to take next trip. We drive so we take a great deal of stuff with us anyway. Sounds like a pack of solo cups will be added to the list. My wife drinks coffee but rarely at WDW. It's hot and we travel in the summer usually, plus she says it makes her overactive bladder even more so. You would think that these accomodations warrants a little more than a foam cup though, come on..

As I said BWV BCV never had ceramic mugs or glass cup I have stay there in this level room and never had it the only major chnage would be the dish soap .

SO as Chusck S said "at least OKW" well that is not all of DVC .

I have stayed in studios for the past 6 years - approximately 24 - 25 different times in every dvc resort except VWL and they ALL had ceramic coffee cups and glasses. Every one!! I don't have a problem with disposables as long as they are paper and not styrofoam and enough inventory is left to last during my stay. Four disposables will last about one day for me. I will probably pack my coffee cup anyway.

My husband and I share our points with three adult children so we never get to stay in anything but "low-level" studios and we have never been in one that had paper or styrofoam mugs or glasses. I have stayed at least 10 times in the last three years in an SSR studio and for the life of me I have no idea how the manager there can be telling people that they have never had ceramic mugs in their studios. They have never had anything but!

I really don't mind washing plastic utensils although at times I have wished for a real knife to cut something hard. I very seldom use the paper plates and bowls but I do not remember one time when I did use them that they were replenished on trash and towel day. It seems like they are always overlooked.

As far as the paper coffee cups go, four is not enough for two people, never mind more than that. Also, these cups stain and some of them disintegrate after they sit with liquid in them for a time. Has anyone who has used them noticed whether they can be washed and reused over and over until trash and towel where I am guessing they will only replace them if we leave them a big note. :)

I, too, will miss my "glass" toothbrush holder. If we have to start bringing any more stuff from home we may have to rethink buying a second home in Orlando during the real estate downturn and forgetting about DVC. We'll have to pack just as much.

Let's all hope they don't change to sporks.

I just sent MS an email letting them know what I think of the change and a request for it to be reversed. We stayed in a BWV studio in Dec 2007 and it had both glass cups and ceramic mugs.

In regular rooms at the disney Resorts don't they have glass glasses??? I mean, in every hotel I've stayed at, I've never been in a room with paper cups (except for coffee).

As the "expose" piece on Inside Edition was shot at the Contemporary, I would think this is a WDW-wide change, not a DVC change.

I would appreciate a statement from MS, something through the e-mails or an annoucement on the Members Site as to where this policy came from and that they are listening to members' concerns.

Who knows, according to some the studios are so low-rent, maybe DVC will think the people who stay in them eat with their hands and don't even need plastic utensils? The heck with styrofoam, just drink your coffee right out of the glass pot. Oh my, does Mousekeeping wash the pots with toilet water too? Never mind the studios cost on a cash basis about the same as the De-luxe resorts. Both even have the fancy see-ment ponds and kiddie slides, but nonetheless they are still lower rung accomodations, right?

So on that note.. Welcome to the new Medievil Times Resort. Eat your food with your hands, feel free to use the drapes when you are done with your ribs. It will add to the colorful ambiance :rotfl:

Even guests in the value resorts receive glass glasses

No, they don't. I stay at Pop Century a lot and they're strictly plastic.

If this is going to apply to all resorts I am waiting for the tizzy on the Resort board.

I have to agree that this new policy stinks. I do no use "Styrofoam" cups. Nor do I intend to start. I consider myself to be conservation minded but find that many of Disney's conservation initiatives leave me baffled. Due to past experience with unclean glassware & mugs in the DVC units I got in the habit of just cleaning everything myself when I arrived in the room. I called Mousekeeping once to complain about the unclean glasses. They sent someone who proceeded to stand at the sink and wash the glasses. I had expected someone to arrive with clean items to replace the dirty ones. As for expecting plastic glasses & styrofoam cups to last your entire stay, forget about it. I regularly hoard plastic knives, forks & spoons from the CS resturaunts because mousekeeping rarely if ever replenishes these items on either trash & towel or full cleaning days. I hide the leftover Plates & bowls in the hopes of receiving replacements. If the stated maximun occupancy per studio room 4 people there should be at least 4 plates, 4 bowls, four glasses, 4 cups, 4 knives, 4 spoons, 4 forks, etc. supplied per person per night. Don't even get me started on the towel issue. We are paying for Deluxe accomodations and receiving less than those who stay at the value resorts.
