DVC studios - fewer amenities

Bobbi, which address did you write to? I used the "contact us" on the member page and just got a canned response back

Hi! Sometimes the canned response comes and sometimes the "from a real person, general response comes." I think that yours is the automatic one that I get when the business is closed, so to speak. Yes, I sent the message through the DVC site as you did. I am reasonably sure that that will do, and by sometime tomorrow or maybe Tuesday, you'll get another answer.

While it may never have been listed in the supply lists, DBorges, studios have ALWAYS, at least at OKW, been equipped with ceramic mugs and glass driniking glasses. There was never ANY disposables in the studios. If studios always were equiped with styro cups, there have NEVER been any in a studio I've gotten, and we've stayed in studios at least 25 times over the years.

Paper plates & bowls, yes, plastic silverware, yes. But ALWAYS ceramic mugs and real glasses.

Not just OKW. BCV, BWV, VB, HHI, SSR, VWL alslo have had ceramic mugs and glass drinking glasses every single time we've stayed in studios. Granted we're only talking about 25 stays over the past 10 years, but it's a fairly representative sample. And these were largely dedicated studios.

As I said BWV BCV never had ceramic mugs or glass cup I have stay there in this level room and never had it the only major chnage would be the dish soap .

SO as Chusck S said "at least OKW" well that is not all of DVC .

You're simply, and completely, wrong about this.

Thanks! Just got a response from Nyla (2 1/2 hours after the auto-response) that said my comments would be forwarded on to the Member Satisfaction team :goodvibes

We are considering adding a DVC contract along with our other ts's. I am a little shocked at this just like the rest of you. For what it's worth, I have never stayed in a Hyatt or Marriott studio that had plastic or paper cups instead of glass and ceramic. Now, guaranteed they have small dishwashers but shouldn't the occupant have the option of washing them if they choose to use them? As has been stated, those points cost the same as the ones being used for larger accomodations. Since we would be mostly using studios for our trips, I will be watching to see what happens with this.

My MIL is at the Floridian this weekend. I'll ask her if she had real glasses in her room. It would be truly obnoxious to be sleeping in a room on the 5th floor of AKL and not get real glasses but get them if I paid for a room on the 4th floor. :headache:

This is an unacceptable downgrade to the amenities. A few foam cups won't last between trash & towel or cleaning. All of those disposable cups are bad for the environment. Have they thought about how easily the foam cups can blow into the savannah at AKL? Just one stiff breeze and there goes your cup into the animal pen.

Oh, and beverages *do* taste differently in plastic v. foam v. paper v. glass v. ceramic.

I remember when, I think it was during the free dining in '07, people were upgraded to SSR studios. Just how many potential new members would be impressed with the upgrade if it included the plastic and syrofoam cups? I wouldn't be. We recently got notices about "special savings" for family and friends, again SSR studios were highlighted. DVC should rethink and then dump this idea.

If you paid cash, and got daily housekeeping, you'd still get glasses, right? Unless all the resorts are going disposeable.

How would they really know? Sometimes it seems, a few rooms are ready, you get your choice. If the studios all were to have the plastic/foam things, they would all have them, I think.

I have just read that managers at SSR are insisting that mugs and glasses were never supplied in studios to a guest staying there now. They also flatly refused to send any to the unit.
What concerns me now, is that managers are now flat out lying to guests.

Add me to the list of people who e-mailed Member Services regarding this. We are new members and probably would have been okay (not thrilled) with disposable if we didn't know differently but to provide paper/foam when you only are able to have them replaced every 4 days seems crazy.

So far I have only received the "canned" reply but will be curious to see what everyone hears back.

Just left an OKW studio on Friday. The villa was supplied with glasses, coffee mugs, and styrofoam cups. Someone mentioned earlier that the mugs used to be Fiestaware. As I was washing a mug I noticed on the bottom the name Fiestaware. It was a different color from the other three. I remarked to my husband that it must have been one of the original mugs. There have been glasses and mugs on every visit to an OKW studio. The new towels were nice but did not dry from one morning to the next.

So, is the magic still there? Is Welcome Home losing it's meaning? Is Disney Files a poor substitute for Vacation Magic? It's changing and I've been feeling it for a while. It's just not the same.

Slowly, but surely.....

My goodness, I am shocked at the uproar over this issue. I guess I have more important issues in my life, because this change doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I prefer the styrofoam cup for my cappuccino in the morning. The mugs are smaller, and I don't feel like washing a cup out each day (in a studio). So for me, I'll take the plastic & styrofoam and be happy that I'm on vacation.

do you think you'll have enough cups to last the whole stay? do they plan to replenish the supply at all? If it's just me I can make the cups last but if there's a friend with me 4 cups for 3 nights won't do it.

We won't be able to wash them with soap, just rinse them.

For what it's worth, I took this picture about 5 years ago when we were staying at BWV, in this unit. I have posted this same photo here on the DIS on several occassions over the years when posters have asked questions about what's in a Studio. In fact the reason I took the photo in the first place was with the intent of a "picture is worth a thousand words" as the question of what's in a studio is definitely an F.A.Q.

This is a BWV Studio. One coffee mug is in the cabinet, one upside down on the counter after being washed. Glasses are in the cabinet and you can see the plasticware stuffed inside the glass. There is another glass upside down on the counter, after being washed. If you look closely you can see the dish soap on the counter, toward the back.

The unused paper plates and bowls are still visible standing on edge, in the cabinet.
