DVC Split Stay Dining Plan Question

We're planning to rent points and do a DVC Split Stay. I think we can add the dining plan to only one of the reservations as opposed to having to add it to both as they are considered two separate entities. Is that correct? Further, if we do only add it to one reservation, and have it be the first stay, will our mugs that we get work at the second property even though we don't still have the DP?

The mugs will be good for 14 days.
All you dining credits need to be used by midnight on the day you check out from your first reservation.

They are good for 14 days or length of stay, whichever is longer. We stayed for 17 night last trip, and got our mugs re-activated free of charge on the 15th day.
