Hello, I just rented points from someone for 1 night to add onto our current reservation. DVC actually sent me a confirmation e-mail. I've rented in the past and have never received any confirmations from DVC other than what the member sent me. Is this part of the new system upgrade or was it some fluke on DVC's end? The member received the e-mail as well with his name on it and the one I received had my name. :confused3

It's supposed to be part of the new upgrade.

I read about this feature in the upgrades. Should make things more convenient.

If DVC is now sending e-mails to non-members wouldn't this open up a can of worms. Now DVC is saying we have your ressie and everything is okay.
Now what if the owner cancels the ressie before the renter shows up? I would think that since DVC sent the (NON-OWNER) the e-mail then they just let the owner off the hook for the cancelled ressie. Now DVC needs too and should have a room for this renter. I don't like this at all JMO:surfweb:

I don't see it any different than if the member sent the renter the confirmation paper via the mail. I wonder if the reservation was cancelled an e-mail would go to the renter.

I agree. I think this e-mail idea is great, both the member and the non-member get the confirmation e-mail. So if both the member and the non-member would receive a cancellation e-mail as well, that would be perfect. But, unfortunately, no, nobody receives any cancellation e-mail. Per MS, you get a cancellation number, DVC has never sent out cancellation in the past. You always just receive a cancellation number.

Hi,

Yes, it is part of the upgrade and
should make renters feel more
secure about their reservation
because it actually comes from
Disney.
Pretty soon, we will also be able
to make our own reservations
online.
I love the new changes.

How did DVC get the OP's email address? I've never given MS the email address for any of my renters. :confused3

This is what I was going to say. The only way the non member received the email was because the email address was provided to member services by the member. If the member had never given the email address of the renter to Disney then, of course, no way for Disney to send them the email.

Disney is constantly data mining thier internal databases when you provide them contact information. It's likely when the renters name or phone number was put in the reservation it match a contact record for them somewhere in Disney's vast marketing DB and they pulled it up and linked the email for that individual. It's been problematic for us, we ourselves must be in 5 or 6 different Disney databases, and many of them have wrong contact information and it's impossible to get it fixed when there's wrong information. IE, DVC has our home address right, but magical express sends our luggage tags to some other "McDonald" address on our street. The Florida resident DB has my personal name wrong so all thier spam is addressed to me as "Dear Ariel" (which was the name of a guest we had on a cash reservation at wilderness lodge 10 years ago booked by CRO before we had DVC). The Passholder DB for some reason has us on the do not email list and we get no passholder email notifications... etc. etc. etc...

Well they didn't send me an email. I just got my waitlist for a room for one night. If they were sending email confirmations shouldn't they have sent me a confirmation for the one night reservation? I only know because I checked my vacation list on my account. BTW -- this was a new reseservation, not a night added on, so has it's own reservation number (it's for a studio for my DD and family who decided to stay one night after returning from the cruise.)

They don't send email confirmations when waitlists come through. You find out when you check the website.

I think that the person renting the OP's points gave her email address to DVC, as a bonus so that they had confirmation. I have read that DVC is starting to do that, and that's very likely, IMO, what happened.

I only ask because my waitlist is a NEW reservation. I did not have a room reserved and did not have a reservation prior to getting the waitlisted room, so my waitlist did not take the place of any other reservation. I waitlisted for a room one night as new reservation -- make sense? That's why I thought I would get a confirmation. My DD and SIL are staying over one night after our cruise returns and we were just going to let them use our sleep sofa, but I decided to waitlist for one night for them. If it came through great, if not, no big deal, they would still have a place to sleep. I sort of thought it might be emailed to me, since it's a new resort reservation, not an additional night added on to a current reservation.

Just a wild thought, but does anyone think this is some sort of way Disney can track who is renting, how much of it is going on, and if people are abusing their membership in a way Disney doesn't like (ie: making a profit off of it)?

Just wondering:confused3
