DVC ressie with no tickets

I know it would involve an outlay of money, but if it’s that important to get access to the Park Pass system for 2021, why aren’t members just booking a package for cash that covers your dates? You can book your Park Passes and when ticket purchases open up again, you can
  • Buy and link new tickets.
  • Link the DVC reservation (if not already linked)
  • Cancel the cash package for a refund.
From everything that I’ve seen, the Park Pass reservation system works just like the FP+ system. You only lost your FPs if you didn’ t have a resort and valid tickets attached. It didn’t matter if you had a different resort booked or different tickets in your account from the time when you made the FP reservations.

It actually only costs $200 to reserve a package....so it seems like it would work!

You can cancel though until you get the new tickets linked..

DVC doesn’t have the option to book with tickets today so it doesn’t work to rebook.

The only option that a DVC owner can do is book a 2021 package, with tickets, make park reservations and then pay thr $200 deposit,

Once ticket sales open up for 2021..which should be the 28th I guess, they buy tickets, link them to the guests...which should keep the park reservations intact as they now have two tickets,

Then go cancel the 2021 cash package booked today. Of course, no guarantee it will work, but for $200 deposit that is all that is needed to book a new cash package, could be worth a try?

ETA: scratch this...they require you to book park days I believe when you buy tickets so it might not work..

I was wondering about this too. Maybe when the $200 deposit booking gets cancelled, I could scoop up the associated reserved park days that got dropped with my DVC attached tickets?
eta- (If the ticket reservations can't be transferred)

It's a risk and feels discourteous but if the system is going to allow it, why not at this point.

From all that I have read, once you buy the tickets in a few days and link them, once you cancel the cash package, those won’t go away,

You just have to link the new tickets before canceling the package. Seems like a pretty easy work sound...but does require a $200 deposit.

While DVC shouldn’t have to do this, at least it gets them park reservations now.

It's a very welcome option right now. I'd rather put out $200 than $2k deposits.

And, if it is the 28th for ticket sales, which now seems to be the case, I don’t think the park reservation system is going to change all that much in 4 days

I'm still on hold. Should I ever get to talk to someone should I ask them if it is possible to do what people are saying and book a package today, attach it to my DVC and then cancel? I actually made a reservation today at Coronado for one night which I was planning to do anyway.

It would make sense to work that way, it aligns with the way Disney has done things in the past.

I wonder if I buy the 2021 tickets when i go this July if I could upgrade it to the gold ap?

The tickets are tied to dates..so that I don’t know...if they are selling APs by then, I can’t see why not...but again, not sure as they have never had the next years tickets on sale while stopping current year

Ok so I just talked to my friend who is a travel agent and his worry is that if you do that and put the $200 down they won't actually consider that buying your tickets and that if you cancel it may cancel that too.

I assume you would need additional tickets attached to your account before cancelling. As long as you have as many tickets left after cancelling as you do park reservations, it would make sense that they should stay

Oh so you are saying to buy the package with the tickets today and link them then on the 28th buy more tickets and link them then cancel the other package and tickets you just bought?

I’ll let you in on a little secret. I have a brother who is traveling with us in October. He has no intention of visiting the parks but he is on our reservation. I transferred one of my tickets to him in MDE and made one Park Pass reservation for him. Then I transferred the ticket back to me.

Two days later, that Park Pass is still in his account. He has no ticket attached to his name.

And before anyone gets upset, I’ve been watching to make sure that the date has not been sold out for that park. I would certainly cancel his Park Pass if it was. I just want to see if the reservation gets cancelled when there’s no ticket attached, and if so, how long will it take?

I don’t think making the package reservation and then cancelling after linking purchased tickets will be a problem.

If the ticket reservations can't be transferred, I'm thinking we might be able to scoop up our own cancelled park reservations if we're quick enough. Once we cancel the $200 package, those associated park reservations should go back to being available in the system.

Just don't know the timing of when they will be released, or if WDW finds they're somehow oversold at that point and decides not to put them back in the system.

Worth a shot though. Maybe they transfer or maybe we can cancel one and then scoop it back up with the intended reservation.

Sorry, no. We are talking 2021. People with cash room only in 2021 are simply booking a new 2021 package with tickets and then canceling out their cash room only reservation they had for 2021 as it is not allowing them to just add tickets,

So, it seems consistent so far that no one is being able to add tickets for. 2021 if it’s just room only,,DVC or cash.
Maybe this is true and in the system it works this way, but I just talked to my SIL. She had a room on cash reservation in 2021. She got in touch through using the "modify reservation" prompt. She now has a reservation that is a package. She wasn't sure if it was a cancel and make new or add tickets, but she said "they were able to add tickets for me". Maybe on the CM side they did an cancel and rebook, but the interesting thing is she stated the reservation/confirmation number is the same as her original room only reservation. She stated"My confirmation number did not change". If they cancelled and booked a new package, I would think you would get a new confirmation number, but maybe you don't if it is done as one transaction.

Interesting...she is the first one i have heard so maybe the earlier reports were because it wasn’t up yet?

It is sad then that DVC can’t do the same. Although, it does seem that DVC owners can just book a package with tickets for the $200 deposit and book parks.

Buy regular tickets in 4 days and link, canceling out packag.r. Shouldn’t have to do it though.

Thanks for reporting. Maybe we will see a change for DVC by end of day?
