DVC Resale or from Disney?

As far as canceling your existing purchase agreement to look for a resale one instead, consider this. If you are planning to stay at WDW before Feb 2016, do not cancel. While you may very well have found a suitable resale contract and managed to close before then, the likelihood that you could also book a stay with in that time frame is slim. So if you, will pay for a more expensive trip this year that difference will come close to equalizing any benefit resale could make.

The recommendation to cancel isn't solely to look for resale but just to take the time to investigate the possibility and decide what the best route might be. There is a single chance (the first 10 days) to cancel. After that you're stuck. Re-doing a contract for direct purchase takes very little time if they decided that direct makes sense. IMO it's better to take the time now and know for certain.

We just returned from WDW a couple weeks ago. We ended up cancelling our direct sale once we got home and about to make a offer on a AKL resale. We don't plan on using our points for anything but DVC and if we decide to cruise or go else where we will just rent out our points. As others stated do a little more research before deciding if resale is for you and your family. Doing resale we are getting triple the points for what we were paying for Poly direct. Though I would love Poly as a home resort financially it doesn't fit in our budget.

Wow, I do not agree.

I wouldn't base a decision to make very large commitment of money because of "savings" on one trip to WDW. If the original poster is still researching whether or not DVC is a good fit for his specific family, and is planning a vacation in the next few months, then I believe that a better choice would be to rent a DVC property or even stay at a Value or Moderate resort. I would have trouble justifying going direct and potentially paying additional thousands in order to save, at most, a few hundred on one upcoming trip.

Exactly. You could take two or three trips for the price difference between direct and resale. The only reason to stick with a direct contract is because it meets your needs and desires in the future.
