Can someone please tell me (or point me in the direction) of the benefits/perks that Renters of DVC Points are entitled to? Now, as a renter I don't expect to get the full-DVC treatment, but it would be nice to know what to expect. I've looked and searched and spent hours reading but can't seem to find a cut and dry answer to this question...

There is a debate going on another board regarding this very topic and I'm looking for answers.

Thank you all for your help! :)

All you can expect is the room along with things like early entry. The discounts, pool hopping, etc are not technically available to renters. DVC has shown no interest in enforcing this differece so you are likely to get the other options but not guaranteed.

Do I have the right to call DVC MS to be sure that the reservation is now in my name (according to our rental contract)? I was encouraged to do so by the DVC member I am renting from. He gave me the reservation number and MS phone number.

I am not really concerned about the pool hopping, parking, etc. That's not a big deal to me...but nice to know.

THANKS! :)

It is my understanding that MS is not supposed to talk to non members other than those that exchange in through II. I know they will sometimes do it but it is hit and miss from what I've seen. You can also call the front desk at the resort, tell them it's a points reservation and the number and they should be able to check for you as well.

Thank you for clearing that up!

I just came back from a stay at BCV by renting points. One time, MS did talk to me, and another time they wouldn't. We got all the benefits a member would have while we were there (discount at Cape May, etc.) and our key said 'member' on it.

Don't know if that is how it always happens, but that is how our stay went.

We rented points twice and received the full DVC member treatment from start to finish. We were able to purchase UPH passes with the 10% DVC discount, used dining discounts once or twice, and got more "Welcome Home"s than you can shake a stick at.

As was the case with pstepka, our room keys also had the "DVC Member" notation.

In fact, now that I think about it, we also received several voice mail invitations to attend DVC member gatherings during our stay.

I'm sure that some DVC members will cringe at the above, but I gotta tell you that everything listed above is a large portion of the reason that DW and myself are currently moving forward with a SSR investment of our own. The first class treatment given to even "pseudo members" like ourselves really made an impression. My wife doesn't typically spend 14K without giving it a second thought, but she may be even more excited than I am in this instance.
