DVC Rental Market Dried Up?

So if a broker closes down you are guaranteed to have your reservation? Weve already proven that you arent guaranteed to get your $ as a seller.
If Marriott closes and I’ve prepaid for my reservation I lose my money then too. The brokers have to be absolutely printing money with the markups their charge and the volume they do, so that risk feels extremely low.

That statement wouldnt match what was actually occuring these past few months.

I get that but I bet David has millions of dollars in the bank and the “risk” of his business closing was never real.

I didn't mean for this thread to get into whether or not the brokers have benefitted from the recent events - I think there is a very long thread on that already.

I am catching up with DVC and reading many threads. One Thing that caught my eye is that only Blue Card points can get the get 2 days free special. So it seems to me that if I post a rent or transfer specifying Blue Card could now be worth more for this or other reasons? Am I thinking about that correctly?

The "blue card points only" was reported on the Disboards by one poster who knows someone who saw a Facebook post in a DVC group who was denied the ability to purchase the tickets because some of the points used on her reservation were not direct/qualifying points. That was refuted by another Facebook post in response to that person.

I think that like anything Disney rolls out, there is confusion about the terms of use initially. There are reports of white card members being able to get the tickets. There are reports that the member has to be on the reservation. It usually takes several days for the dust to settle.

What I am really asking is do Blue Card points go for more money on rental/transfer than white?
No. Points are points. Some resorts command a higher per-point price because of the popularity of the resort. But resale or direct, they have the same booking advantages and restrictions, with the exception of booking RIV. And even then, there are “white card” points that are qualified to book at RIV.

Member Extras are for the members and do not extend to those renting from members. The benefits do not transfer with the points iif points are transferred to another member.

No because those that are considering renting vs cash can get the same ticket offer via cash stays with Disney or ticket sellers.

And, if you offer that as a benefit, and then there is an issue, you would lose the rental, Plus, you, as the owner, has to pay for the tickets...from reports...so that’s an added issue.

while demand is off some, the real factor is that there is a glut of rental points on the market including a lot that are near expiration.

Those that are expecting these points to bring the same dollars as before covid are likely to sit on them much longer. This is for both direct and through a broker.

to the OP, discount your points a couple of dollars and they will likely move, at least that is what we are seeing in these boards and at the rental brokers

Thanks for the advice.

Don't They get free parking at the parks and the Dining plan if they wish. They get the early and late magic hours (which may be suspended nowadays). They get all the benefits of staying at a DVC resort, no?

Yes. The free parking at resort and adding a dining plan when they are available.

IIRC just before the pandemic hit, Disney made it clear they were going to try to start charging for parking on rentals, the legality of which was debated on these boards. Nothing seems to have come of it though; having the parks closed for 3 months seems to have shifted priorities.

Those are perks of staying at an on-site resort (which includes the on-site DVC Resorts). They are not perks of being a DVC Member.

From what I can tell, if it is paid for with dues, such as parking maintenance and transportation, then all guests staying based on points get those benefits If it is being funded from some other source within Disney, then it is generally just for blue card carrying members

Hi,

I signed up with one of the popular rental brokers. In the past, I would be able to rent out my points fairly quickly, but it has been over 2 months since signing up and no requests whatsoever. Has the market dried up, or is there something going on? I know that one of the brokers had to deal with a lot of re-booking due to the pandemic - maybe that has impacted things?
I’ll just note that I posted my points on this board to rent, and I rented out over 1200 points in 48 hours. So I’d say the demand is definitely still there.

In hindsight maybe I should have asked for more (at least $15!), but this was all for within the next 7 months (these are banked points expiring 8/31), so I only asked what I would have gotten had I rented them through a broker ($14.50/point). But clearly at that price point they fly off the shelf, so to speak.

Good to know, thanks for the data point!
