We are considering buying DVC. One thing I'm not sure about. DVC is pushing SSR at $101/point. However on The Timeshare store site the SSR points are listed at $88 or less per point. VWL are about the same and OKW is even lower?

What advantage would it be to buy direct from DVC at $12+/point more???

With the current incentives, the price through Disney is really $93 per point with '06 points included, or $88 per point with no points coming on until '07.

There are no closing costs if you buy from Disney, there will be if you buy resale (several hundred dollars).

If you buy from Disney, your membership will be active in 24-48 hours and you can start making reservations and/or travelling on your points.

If you buy resale, you will put in a bid, the contract goes to Disney for ROFR and, if it passes, closing will be scheduled. The process from putting in your offer to making it into Disney's computer as a buyer can take 6-8 (or more) weeks, and you won't be able to make a reservation until that happens.

When judging price per point in resale, you also need to look at whether the resale contracts come "loaded" with points (banked points in addition to this year's points) or are "stripped" (this year's points already used and maybe some of the next year's points too, since Disney allows borrowing).

That being said, you can save money buying resale if you can be patient, you want to buy at a "sold out" resort, or you want to buy in at less than Disney's 150 point minimum buy-in.

No advantage if you are buying SSRl, but it would be 12 years advantage if you buy OKW. The other advantage is if you need to finance, you would have to get your own financing if buyting from the Timeshare Store. Also, when you buy resale, Disney has right of first refusal, so you need to pass that before you could finalize a purchase.

That makes sense, thanks.

We really like VWL and although we know we can stay anywhere. The advice of buying where you like the best was good advice.

We found one with lots of banked points and really don't plan on going back at least for 6 - 8 months so the time frame is not an issue.

Brutus, you can buy VWL direct from Disney even though it is "sold out." Tell your guide that is the only place you'll purchase. The price will be $95 per point (at least if you lock in by July 1) if you'll be a new member. If you don't care about Use Year, they may have the number of points in stock that you want to buy (from contracts that they bought up during the ROFR process) and you can do it immediately. If you want a particular Use Year, you can get on a waiting list. The contract will come with your current use year points loaded in.

I wanted to buy at BWV. So I told my guide on Friday, June 9th that I wanted 200 BWV points and I didn't care about the UY. They had them available with an August UY. I bought them that afternoon and was in the computer Monday morning, June 12th. I banked the 200 points it came with and will have 200 more coming on board August 1. I paid $95 per point - no closing costs, no waiting.

Another advantage to purchasing through Disney is that you can purchase exactly the number of points you want. You might want 262 points but on resale you might only find 250 point contracts or 275, for example.

Also, with purchasing through Disney you have some opportunity to select a Use Year. With resale, you do not have that option.
