This is my first post but I have been reading the boards for awhile. Being able to learn from the experiences of so many is such a benefit.

Does Disney allow DVC members to add points to any existing contract? I have 160 points at the AKV's and would like to add about 75 more. My use year is December so for simplicity sake I would like to keep the same use year to make it easier to track points. Would MS allow me to purchase additional points at AKV or do I have to go the reseller route?

DVC would *LOVE* for you to add 75 points. You can add on to your existing contract anytime - you have to add on at least 25 points and 50 points if you want to finance the purchase. You will have the same UY if you add on through Disney. If you want to buy via re-sale, you'll have to buy the same UY to have it associated with your master contract. You can buy direct from Disney for a different UY, but it would be a new master contract, which means a layer of complexity in booking and managing points.

You can certainly purchase additional points thru DVC directly if they are available-shouldn't be a problem with AKV. They will keep your same use year. If your original contract was xxxx.0, then your add-on will show as xxxx.1 or something similar. You can add on any amount of points for cash, but will need to purchase 50+if you want to finance.

I originally bought 160 at AKV as well and have since added two 50 point contracts over the past two years. All are the same December UY, so they are all parts of the same master contract. I have also added a couple of contracts at other resorts and since they are also December UY, are also part of the same master contract. It makes life so much easier that way -- you don't have to worry about transferring from one to the other, etc.

yep - an "add-on" of 75 pts at AKV together with your 160 pt contract will function as one 235 pt contract...but you would still be able to will or sell the contracts separately down the road.

To everyone that replied - thank you!

I keep seeing references to being able to negotiate or receive '09 points. What does that mean? Is it if you add on for a use year before that month, you get the 2009 Use Year points? I'm trying to add 75 points in Dec. Does that mean I would receive 75 points that I could use before Dec 2010?

Yes. When you add on through Disney, they will typically give you current UY points.

Right now, you are still in your 2009 UY, so if you add on between now and November 30th, Disney will give you those 75 points and allow you to bank them into your 2010 UY if you have no use for them prior to Dec 1st, 2010.

So, if you are considering it in the near future, try and take advantage and add on before your 2010 UY starts.

We were set to do that (our UY is June) but my DD is heading off to college next year and chose her top choice (and most expensive!!) so we thought we should at least wait to make sure everything with that works out the way it should. Looks like addonitis will have to wait until next spring!:sad1:

Does this mean that with my current OKW contract with an Oct UY I could add on to a different resort direct through disney with the same UY that they would be under 1 master contract? Would this mean that if I wanted to I could use the points in 1 contract to extend a stay at the other resort once the 7 month mark hit without having to use the transfer option. I think I understand that I wouldn't be able to use points from say WL to book a grand villa at OKW at my 11 month advantage. Am I correct?

You can add an additional contract to your membership, you do not actually add points to your existing contract.
