DVC Point Charts for 2011 - Post chart release discussion begins on Pg 14

How smart of DVC to "leak" the points chart so we could all proof them for DVC before they were made official. Now if the official ones get posted to the member website and still has the error, I obviously gave them to much credit.

Yup, I think you gave them too much credit- as of right now, the AKV chart with what appears to be an error is posted on the member website.:confused3

In 2010, our 7 nights in a BLT MK studio for 3/1-3/8 will cost us 183 points. In 2011, that same accommodation will cost us the same 183 points.

Ironically, my wife and I were crunching some numbers for our family gathering we are planning for June 9-13, 2011, when we noticed that the 2011 charts were available on dvcnews.com. We were checking the point costs to book three villas for our families: a 2-bedroom, a 1-bedroom, and a studio at BLT, AKV, VWL, BCV, or BWV. At every resort, the total points for the three villas dropped about 40-44 points in 2011 compared to 2010 (which is about 8% savings). Since our plans call for us to book two weekend nights, we are benefitting from the further reduction in weekend stays.

Sorry to hear that. Last year I was pretty upset because some people really got steamrolled by the changes (in particular, people who had just bought into BLT and were basing their purchase on a chart Disney was showing them for an unopened resort). Didn't effect me at all, but I didn't think it was fair to those people. Or the people who now are put into the situation of having to purchase more points (hey, look at that, there's a 50 pt minimum add-on now).

It wouldn't bother me if I could detach myself emotionally and just look at it as a business move.

Also anyone that goes more than 7 nights get hit too. We typically went for about 10 nights. Now with Sun and Mon being higher pts, may lose that as well.

Dumbest question ever.... here it goes:

Do the points change on Jan. 1, 2011 regardless of what your use year is? If I have a June use year, then conceivably I could use my 2010 points in the calendar year 2011 (without banking etc.) because my use 2010 June use year runs from June 1 2010 to June 1 2011.

If not, then what is the point of having a use year?

I like that the AKV value studios in Adventure and Choice seasons are even cheaper than they were before the 2010 reallocation - down to 69 points for a week now. A nice way to save on points if you have to.:thumbsup2

Gee, and I own 69 points at AKV!:lmao:

Its based on the calendar year that the points are actually used in, not when the reservation is first made. So if you book a stay for sometime in 2011 using 2010 points the point cost is based on the dates of your stay in 2011, not what they were at the time you booked them.

I assume it's to balance when the points are issued. If you set aside the issues of banking and borrowing for the moment, giving all members their points on January 1st could alter the usage trends. Specifically it could increase demand for early months like January and February since people are rushing to use their points.

(Even with banking and borrowing the same could still happen with a large segment of owners living year-to-year.)

Spreading out the points over multiple Use Years should negate all of that effect. It also gives members greater flexibility in banking their points, assuming they made an educated decision in picking a Use Year.

Just did some more number crunching and now I am fuming. I was planning on taking the family and splurging on a BLT MK view grand villa for my 50th birthday 2/11. I was estimating points on the 2010 schedule. Sat night was 169 pts Sun-Tue was 112 each. Total 505 pts. NOW (2011) Sat night is 170pts and Sun-Tue is 145 pts each. Total 605 pts. Thats crazy. 100 points more for the same room. If you look at the current rental price of say $10 per point, this trip will cost an extra $1000.00 But that is no longer an issue because NOWI don't have enough points to take the trip. (At least not in a grand villa). The Grand Villas will soon truely be Grand, because they will be only for the rich. JMHO

First, sorry for going a bit off topic on this thread, just need this cleared up in my head.

Points used is based on the actual stay. However, since I don't get my 2010 points until June, there is really only 6 months for me until the points change again on Jan. 1, 2011. Somebody with a Dec. use year would only have a month (again, irregardless of banking and borrowing).

What I'm saying is if I make a ressie for Feb of 2011 I am still in my 2010 use year, but will be subject to the new 2011 points. Is that correct? Jan. 1 the points change for everybody?

Yes, but Fri and Sat are less, doesn't that help?

sometimes but overall no. Reason being is that the total pts for week went up. For example, SSR 1BR during adventure season was 178 for 7 nights. 8 Nights would be 212, 10 nights 256.

In 2011, 7 nights are 183, 8 nights are still 212 (lower sat offset by increase in 7nights), 10 nights 262.

there are some cases where it does work in our favor but overal not. Typically will only cost of a few pts more for our trips but sometimes when trying to plan 2 trips in one year ever pt counts.

Oh well. It is what it is. :sad2:

The charts are out!!!!

edited to add... noticed after i sent post that my browser was outdated...didn't see the posts above. Boy i'm dense!

Correct.

Add me to the list of happy DVCers right now. We typically go to Disney twice a year for 8 nights - 5 week nights and 3 weekend nights. It will be great for us because the weekend night points went down. They were way too many points in my opinion!

I noticed the member website has not posted the AKV 2011 point charts. All of the other resorts are there but no AKV. I guess the DVD noticed the error on AKV's chart as well. ;)

Funny several of us posted the same info one right after another.
