DVC Point Charts for 2011 - Post chart release discussion begins on Pg 14

In looking at the 2011 charts the first thing that pops out at me is the fact that weekend and weekday point differences seem to have tightened significantly. JMHO

I am a little surprised at how much they lowered the weekends. Looking at a SSR chart the differences between weekdays and weekends is only a few points. This thread is really going to take off now, the people that were upset last time are going to be even more so and some that weren't now will be.

Those who like to stay in an Epcot area studio will really notice the difference. BW standard view studios for a week will be 76/78/104/108/150 and BCV studios will be 107/107/120/134/181 for a week. That's a pretty big difference and BW standard studios are likely to be even harder to get, even for BWV owners.
Thanks for being right on it Jean!!! :woohoo:

This reallocation works in our favor again. We generally stay for long weekends (Thur - Sun) in Sept and Nov for our birthdays. The points for a 1-bedroom for those stays has been reduced by 10 points each for the past 2 realloctions. Over the past 2 realloctions we've had a net gain of 40 points.

Just realized that I will get the raw end of the deal for my 50th B'day trip in 2/11. Presidents day falls ver late 2/21 that pushes winter recess vacation for the kids (do ya'all get that down south) from dream season to magic season. (Of course I am not blaming this on Disney, just mentioning it because many vacation that week.)

We like to do split stays, but now with these new points, not so sure? This year we have 9nights 1 bed and 5 nights studio, so for split stays, I think it will mean more points?

I am math challenged, and home sick today, so I'll have to wait to hear from my banker hubby. I just emailed him the charts, so we'll see what he says.

We just added on 60 points in order to fully accommodate our family, and we are not adding on anymore! We always have weekends in there though, so maybe it will all work out for us?

I hope it works out for all, Tiger

If the purpose of re-allocating pts was just to flatten the diff between weekends and weekdays, why not just lower Fri/Sat by 5pts and add 2pts to Sun-Thur.

Overall week totals would have remained the same and the gap would have been smaller.

I don't understand the logic in some of the changes. Like I posted earlier, some of the harder to get rooms (BLT Standard, BWV Standard, BLT MKV) got harder by lowering pts or in the case of MKV rasing the pts and limiting the people that can afford them.

In SSR, the 1BR and 2BR/THV for the most part took the hit. Studios went down and so did GV, but 1 and 2 BR's which I would think would be the most requested went up.

seems like the concept of split stays wont make as much economical sense as in the past.

also seems to me they are on the verge of not needing weekday vs weekend splits. some of the point differentials are immaterial.

I think it is obvious that balancing weekday-weekend was NOT the only goal...we are seeing the flattening of everything - just not between the seasons to as great an extent.

Yup...I'll be the first to say that the 2011 points charts made me cry:sad1:.

We only own 100 points at AKV and our "normal" visits are 5 weeknights. The lower point requirements had nothing to do with determining our vacations. It is simply a matter of when our vacations start (Friday afternoon) and how long it takes us to drive (2 days).

Initially, our plan was to go EOY and stay in a savanna view 1BR for 5 nights over spring break. In 2009, that was 195 points. In 2010, we had to scrap that plan since it is now 215 points. Now, with 2011's charts, we would need 230 points.

Even a standard 1BR is going to be a stretch at 185 points. One more year of reallocations, and we won't even be able to do THAT on an EOY basis. So, I guess the only way we now have a chance at a savanna view is if we book the value category.

I'd also initially planned to do a summer trip in a studio followed by a spring break trip in a 1BR, followed by a year off. THAT is now going to be almost impossible.

I know that this was both necessary and completely expected, but it still sucks. I begged DH for 7 YEARS to get a DVC contract. Now that we did, and made all of our plans, we get to watch those plans go "POOF" because of the reallocations. I highly doubt we will ever scrape up funds to do an add-on so I think we may end up stuck in studios. Since I wanted DVC so that we could get 1BR's (and those value 2BR's when the kids get older) it saddens me to watch us get "priced out" of the bigger rooms.

But, in the grand scheme of things, there are much worse problems that I could have besides having to "suffer" through a Disney vacation in a studio:cutie:.

This reallocation works in our favor again. We generally stay for long weekends (Thur - Sun)
Me, too. Long weekends are easier for me to arrange with work/school obligations, but ate up my small contract quickly. It's starting to look better! :thumbsup2

I just thought of something else. This reallocation levels the playing field for small point owners. Before they had to wait and start their vacations on Sunday not having enough points to bridge the Fri and Sat night. Now that the weekend points have been flattened out, they can pretty much start their vacation on whatever day they like +7 for a few more points.
Small point owners were really at a disadvantage to large point owners when the weekend points were almost double.

Like for the THV. If you had enough points to start your vacation on Fri Premier season 2009 at 98 points a night, you got a head start on those waiting for Sunday at 48 points a night. Large point owners got a 200 point headstart over small point owners.

This change will also benefit local members who live close and can take advantage of long weekends.

After last year's reallocation, Im pretty calm about this one. Sun-Fri bookings were not working for us for many years. I think the hardest hit will be members that only stayed weeknights and renters and maybe that is DVC's intention for cash rates to be more competitive with point rentals.

Yes and I've always wondered what the view is like from that GV since it's right at the end of the Uzima Savanna. I'm not familiar with the locations of the GVs in Kidani so I don't know whether there is a GV there with a similar view issue.

LisaS & erionm, you may be on to something there. The Kidani GVs I've seen declared so far, and the ones you can make out in the pictures of the undeclared units north of the lobby, all seem to have a savanna view. There are a couple whose location I'm not yet certain of, but believe them to be on the back side, facing the Pembe Savanna. I'd think it more likely that the one you describe at Jambo is the one that will be classified as the standard view, unless some of the as yet undeclared Kidani GVs are on the back side and face more of the pool than the Pembe Savanna.

::yes:: (Small point owner living 1.5 hours from WDW, here. ;) )

On the other hand, those of us who usually vacation over weekends are thrilled.

Agreed. We are planning a November/December 2011 trip and the point value for that trip dropped 12 points for a 12 night stay in a standard room at BWV. The premium room only increased by 1 point.

I am guessing those of us that take longer trips less frequently are less upset by this reallocation.

I think you are right. This is sad for us as we go for 2 weeks each July so we love to mix up resorts for varying reasons. We won't do this if it's going to cost too many points, as the value won't be there. Also, it means problems for us with the Dining Plan too. Oy!

I will wait until hubby figures out actual point costs for us before I get worked up at all, but so far, I'm feeling that our awesome split stays might be out.
