DVC Member Discount ending at Disney Store

On a recent visit to the Disney Store, I was told by a Disney castmember that the Disney Store, after the end of this year, will no longer give DVC members 10% discount on merchandise. Just wondering if anyone else had heard this or can confirm whether it's true or not.

The only thing announced to end in December is The Disney Club discount.Maybe just another misinformed CM.

I guess they are phasing it out to coincide with the phase out of the Disney Club discount.

I was hoping the new Disney Visa would carry some Disney shopping discounts, but evidently not.

Many of the CMs at the Disney Stores confuse DVC with the Disney Club. As you probably know, the Disney Club discount is going away at the end of this year.

Our DVC discount is nominally the same as the DC discount (10%), but the DVC discount includes some items that the DC does not.

It's possible that our DVC discount is also ending at the end of this year, but I won't believe it until we get notification from DVC!

Too many abbreviations! DC = Disney Club, DVC = Disney Vacation Club, DVC = Disney Visa Card. So it's possible to get them mixed up!

I have had Disney Store cast members not even know that DVC gets you a discount so... who knows. Since my Disney store is now kiddie central and even my neice and newphew are getting to old for that stuff it won't effect me either way. I walked in last Friday and was out in 2 minutes.

Seeing how you use to get a 10% discount at DTD, then they changed it to 10% after spending $25.00 and then 10% after spending $50.00 ----- it would not surprise me that they will stop DVC discounts at the Disney Stores.

I asked just today when I put down my deposit if we would get discounts at the Disney Store since I have the Disney Club card and it is ending. I was told that we did. That stinks if it is ending for DVC, too.

DVC members never got a DD discount. The one you're referring to seems to be the AMEX discount which was 15%, then 10% with minimum dollar amounts that changed over the years.

Then a CM really screwed up, because we purchased many items from DTD, over many years, using our DVC card. I would have to disagree with you on this one. As stated we use to use our DVC card at DTD and received a 10% discount on our purchases. First we received a 10% for any amount we spent, then it was 10% after spending $25.00 and then 10% after spending $50.00. On our latest trip we were told that they were not giving a 10% discount using a DVC card, however if you had a AMEX card you could get a 10% discount on any purchase amount.

at this time. My DW is a D.S. CM and has not said a word about DVC losing their discount. I am sure that CM was talking about Disney Club ending. I will do some checking and let you all know otherwise if this is true.

The CM was really uninformed, because there have never been DVC discounts at the main stores at DD. There have been some at Ghirardelli's and the Disney photographers, and a few restaurants, but none at World of Disney, Christmas Store, Art of Disney, etc. For awhile, there was question about whether those staying on points were eleigible for the AE discount, but that was clarified about a year ago. The DVC card was never intended to be accepted at DD stores or in the parks.

Well then there were many CM that were uninformed because we used our DVC card at all the stores you listed.

I know what happened ---- I was the only DVC member that had this perk and everyone else had to suffer without the 10% discount at DTD :)

We3luvDisney -- You were lucky that CMs gave you the discount. As the others have said, we didn't have any discount at WDW except the ability to use the American Express discount when staying at DVC resorts and using the Amex card. Our DVC discount is also not good for on-line or catalog purchases although sometimes people have reported being given the discount. Of course, it's also not good for discounts on park passes (although sometimes people have reported a CM error giving them that discount as well.)

I would be sorry to see us lose the Disney Store discount since I hate to give up any perk. However, I wouldn't be devastated since lately there isn't a single thing in the stores I would want to buy. ;)

Here's the description of our discount from the Member Site. This is the same description that has been in effect as long as I've been a member (1993):

The Disney Store
Disney Vacation Club Members are currently eligible to receive a 10% merchandise discount at The Disney Store chain of retail shops. This does not include any Walt Disney World® Resort Theme Park shops, Walt Disney World Resort shops, or any other retail establishment run by The Walt Disney Company or its affiliated companies.
Guidelines - A Disney Vacation Club Membership card must be presented at the time of purchase. Only the person named on the Membership card is eligible for the discount. This discount is not valid on purchases made through The Disney Store Catalog or The Disney Store Online and cannot be combined with any other special offers. The offer is not applicable to Disney ticket media, gift certificates, Disney Dollars, and other selected merchandise.

OKWPAM,

I agree there is not much in the Disney Stores that I would want to purchase. 90% of the items are for kids, not much for the adult Disney lovers.

I'm a bit surprised what you posted about the rules of the DVC discounts. They don't even offer a DVC discount, at DVC resorts, for DVC members. I'm just waiting for them to say we can't use our points at DVC resorts;)

 There is a 25% member's discount available, at times, for cash reservations at DVC Resorts, a 10% member's discount on UPH and a 10% member's discount for dining at Olivia's Cafe at OKW.

There are also many member discounts at a wide variety of WDW restaurants, tours and recreational programs. The complete list is available on the Member's site and a list is given to each member at check-in .... and you can still use points for room reservations! :)

I hate to see any "member perks" disappear. But, if your a real Disney fan, you don't question any business decisions made by the company.

Afterall, How will they stay in business if they keep giving sooo much away ???

Hope it's not true, but if it is, we'll be shopping less there.

I'll ask my store tonight - I started working part-time there last week. Not that there will be any information though - I don't think DS employees are any more informed than the general public (at least from what I've been able to find out anyway).

They were still telling people that Sleeping Beauty was coming out in May. Its on the release schedule for September 2003.

Melissa

(Its hard to think they would get that confused as they're rung in comlpetely differently from each other)
