DVC Member Cruise ~ August 24, 2015

Hi!
Bobbi is off the cruise and heading to 12 degrees in Cape May!

Lots of DVC cruisers did go to the Villan's event last year...they had a meet there. I was at the TOTW lounge at the meet there, can't be in 2 places at once.

Uggg, met a water physical therapist who, although she said "I do not want to scare you!" she did in a way. She very strongly suggested I get 1 knee at a time replaced. My doctor said neither knee is able to function as a good one, so I do not have a choice. Therapist spoke of horrible pain. Sigh...it is something that I have to try. I miss shore excursions for snorkeling! I cannot get back on a boat from the water...having functional knees will make all the difference! Plus, I am a couch potato, do not do much...I need my life back!!

Our dog, Belle, had been a breeder's dog in her youth. She was 7 1/2 when she was spayed and given up. She had never lived in a home apparently, but we were told she was housebroken. We woke up to a poop in our bedroom on our first morning together, and many others. Well, she did most of her business outside, but we learned she had a place in our dining room where she also peed. She had bad ears, apparently not taken care of, lots of scar tissue. She had gastro problems, needs special diet. We have had her for 3 1/2 years and she is so perfect for us, we had to be very patient, but what a gentle temperament she has! She does not bark verymuch, only if we forget that it is cold and she wants to come in, that's it! When I could walk her, she never pulled, she walks behind me in the house like Mary's Little Lamb.

I loved hearing about your pets, just had to tell you about Belle. I mostly posted on the Games board when our Emma, also a black lab died, and we adopted Belle. One poster, Princess in Oz, and I began many conversations about our pets and lives. She's from Australia, and we met in WDW in October 2013, other Disboarders were there as well. I've gotten a lot of pleasure and worthwhile experiences because of these boards!

Just booked and we are so excited. Would love to join FE group and candy exchange. Can you please let me know whose coordinating? This will be my second member cruise. One of my daughters was lucky enough to go last year - this year the three of us will enjoy together. YAHOO!!!

Welcome!
I am organizing the Candy Exchange, and will keep the number of rooms between 6&11 in each group. Please PM me with your room number, and mention if there are any allergies we should know about.

This is my 4th DVC MC, my DH's second. Last year, I went with a friend, it was her first cruise ever, and it really was a special time, we celebrated her birthday on board!

I love Broadway Shows, music, the show the Broadway entertainers put on last year gave me chills! I look forward to whatever they highlight this year!

Bobbi

PS. 2 pretty special gifts in the Candy Exchange on the cruise we just left were a bag of chocolate covered dried cherries from the Traverse City Michigan area, and from Tokyo Japan, some assorted candies, and cookies from DL Tokyo!

Welcome back Bobbi!!! I completely understand the Cape May temps as I'm in DE.!!!! Sorry to bring you back to reality so abruptly. Love that so many 'rescue' animals today. It's so much better for all those unwanted pets who aren't puppies or kittens and may have lost that 'appeal' to their previous owners. My sister adopted a breeder rescue, poor thing didn't know what grass was. Some rescues come with lots of 'problems' and some with none what so ever. We've been the receiver of 'problems' but wouldn't trade them for the world having these furbabies in our lives.

Bobbi, as for both knees at once, it's going to be very hard, yes. BUT, you do what you have to do!!! And I've had many of patients who have done both at once, it's doable, it's hard and I will tell you the pain SUCKS but stay on top of the pain (don't be afraid of your meds). Take them before the pain is to bad so it doesn't get too bad. Rehab is your friend, they are not trying to torture you and they will get you walking and doing stairs. I truly hope you can completely enjoy the member cruise with those new knees.

Welcome aboard!!! Please let us know who you are traveling with and I'll update the very first post. As for the FE the link is in either the very first post or second post of this thread. You will pm your info to me and I'll add you to the list.

Good morning! It is snowing in Cape May....I am stuck inside, so I dream of Disney. Today I cancelle VWL for our pre MC stay and I booked the Poly, a lake view studio.

Is anyone else staying there?

Snowing here in Delaware Bobbi! I am staying in and warm until I have to go back to work in a couple hours. How exciting for a Poly booking. I don't know anyone staying there yet. You'll definitely have to let us know how it is.

Guess I didn't announce it here but I have officially been hired as an RN. (still part time but can pick up hours). Start date is 3/29. So four more weeks of 'teching' it and then on to the 'real stuff'!!! (also the 'real money').

Thanks Bobbi, I'm excited and nervous. It's on the unit I work on currently (which makes me very happy) and I got in a kind of 'back door' way so I'm very thankful, as lots of my friends who have recently passed their boards do not have jobs at all in the medical field.

A HUGE Congrats!!! Wonderful news! You must be so excited!

We got 6 inches of snow with a little topping of ice. Expecting a little more tonight and maybe some ice Tue. Ugh!

Bobbi
How was your cruise? The candy sounds yummy.

You can be brave for your knee surgury. The pain will not be forever and you will have medicine. Just focus on your goal and you will get through it. My neck surgury was very painful - but you get through it because you have to. You are a very brave person and you can do this - don't listen to other people and their horror stories - listen to yourself and your Dr. You can do this and it will turn out Great! It will be hard at first but each day dill get better.

We didn't get much snow but oh my the ice is a mess. It's solid on the walkway and stairs leading into our home (Just got in from work). Scary for hubby who gets up in a few hours to head out to work.

Bobbi, we want to hear about that cruise (we are living through your trips, lol)

Imagineer Alex Wright gave 2 talks. 1 was about creating the magic, the other was about the types of careers you can have and become a Disney Imagineer. There are about 100 different categories, and some categories have 100's of people, and some 1 or 2. He ended each talk with trivia questions with prizes. DH & I came away empty prize wise, but enjoyed the talks!:)

We relaxed, I read 3 easy read books. We had a small slanted porthole in our room, we booked OGT, so I went mostly to Deck 4 to read. There was a lot of shuffleboard activity, so not particularly quiet, but I am not easily distracted when I read. Plus, I really enjoy ocean views. If we had a large porthole I would have stayed in the room.

I enjoy trivia games, and am amazed at how knowledgeable many people are! We did poorly at some, Disney Music for instance, middlin on some, and we won Pirate trivia!

The pools are small, and on most sunny days, are very crowded. I cringe when I see "People Stew." However, on the 3 port days, I went in, practically alone, for about an hour and did my water exercises. These quiet times are good to find kindred souls to chat with. DH used the pool lift to get me out of the pool. If you need to use that equipment, you go to Guest Services to get a letter stating you will use it. These lift chairs are not permanently placed by the pools or hot tubs, but are put out as needed.

We saw the movie McFarland USA and enjoyed it very much. On in-room TV we watched Muppets Most Wanted (1st time) and Tangled, one of my favorites.

The big production shows were Alladin, my fav, Wishes and Believe, DH's fav. The variety acts were very good, juggling, comic.

We did stay up to see the fireworks! pirate: We never did stay up to see any of the adult shows that begin 10:30 PM or later. The live music entertainers were excellent! We often sought deck chairs to sit and listen.

There's so much to do, usually I do some of the crafts, I did not this time. There are cooking demos, I went to Lobster Ravioli....probably the 3rd time I have been to it. You get a sample and a small amount of wine. I always take the recipe, haven't made them yet, but like to eat them! Did order them that evening as an appetizer.

Food and service were excellent.

I used a walker, and getting around in the halls when housekeeping service carts were out was challenging. About 30% of the carts are too wide for easy passing.

Tom & I like to cruise...we have 4 cruises booked, one on RCCL from Vancouver to Hawaii. RCCL was over $2000 less than the DCL cruise that leaves just a few days before ours in September. The other 3 are on DCL. This year, 2015, we will sail on all 4 DCL ships!

Now, we are in Cape May. The HA ramp to our house was ice covered, I could not make it to Mass yesterday! It looks as if today is our best bet for travel to Ohio, so we will be leaving in a couple of hours, we need temps to get a bit higher. We have seen so many TV newscasts showing car accidents...DH will be doing most of the driving. I will give him a break for a few hours.

Looking forward to meeting all of you on our next cruise!

Bobbi:)

Oh Bobbi, your cruise sounded so wonderful!!! I cannot wait! safe travels back to Ohio!

We are 4 hours into our travels. We waited for the sun to come out. We just crossed the Susquahanna River near Harrisburg, and it was still mightily covered with ice!

I forgot to mention pin trading. Twice or three times on past cruises I have met with fellow Disboarders to pin trade. It is difficult on short cruises, but there is usually a time for pin trading with officers. On the Disboards "Exchange" forum, 4 times a year there is a pin exchange. Very often when I get my partner a Goofy pin is requested. (We exchange 2 pins, requests taken, not guaranteed, it is all done via snail mail.). Well, I am not a collector of Goofy pins, but on this cruise I decided to try to trade for 1 or 2, so I could have one for the Exchange. Non of the officers had a Goofy pin to trade. So, I went to Guest Services. At GS on some non busy days, CMs wear lanyards to trade. Non of the 3 CMs had a Goofy pin. So, I went to the store, decided to buy one...none!! There were 3 boards of individual pins in the store, but no Goofy! We do have a F&G trip before my operation, I will for sure buy one there. On the other hand, I traded a pin for one of Kevin from UP! That is probably my favorite Disny movie.

If anyone on the Dis wants to trade pins during this cruise, we could try to set up a meet.

I hope everyone's day is going well.

Bobbi
