So I just received a phone call from DVC about a research focus group that they are holding in fort lee, nj on June 12th and 13th. Did anyone else get this call?? Has anyone been to one of these before?? What is it like?? Is this legit(my caller id came up as Disney vacaon club)???

I live in Northern NJ also and nothing here... curious what it's about. Please keep us posted!

I actually participated in one of these a few years back during Spring Break. I received a phone call from DVC about a month before our trip asking me if I would participate (we were staying at OKW and the group was meeting one afternoon in the Conference Center at BWV). I think I was given a $75 Disney voucher as compensation. There were several rooms with about 10 - 12 members in each room. Everything was videotaped and they provided refreshments (soda, chips, candy). Most of the discussion centered around what we liked/disliked about DVC and what they could do to make it better. It only lasted about 2 hours and it was fun to meet other owners and hear their opinions. I would definitely do it again.

DH and I are off to do one for DVC this afternoon in Skokie, IL (near Chicago). There were a range of dates and times to choose from. It is only a one hour time commitment. It's at an independent research facility. It will be interesting to see how this goes and see what they ask.

Please come back and let us know about it!

Please let us know. I got a call today asking me if I wanted to participate tomorrow. An hour of my time and a little cash incentive never hurts, plus I do have some feedback to share about buying resale.

Will do. Would love to hear about your experience, too. I'm curious to know if each group covers the same topics or different ones.

When they called me, the gentleman told me they were only calling people who had purchased resale for the group (in Skokie). I would be intrested in knowing if they are all the same or not. Now my curiosity has perked, and what is disney attempting to do with this research.

Ok, sorry but really curious, why would you share resale feedback with DVC. :confused3

Ok, never mind, I thought you wanted to go so you could share feedback about resales, I see with your additional post DVC is wanting feedback from those that have bought resale.

I hope you go so you can share what they ask you.

we will see what path is goes down. I curious to see why dvc wants a focus group of resale people. we will see what they ask, I wont divolge to much information however if it goes down that path.

1. What would it take to make you buy direct?
2. At what point do you yell "UNCLE" and buy direct?
3. What do you dislike the most about DVC (meaning what can we force resale owners to do that will make them hate DVC)?

This is a very interesting thread. Perhaps DVD's restrictions on resale points last year did not have the intended effect. Sure, there is a group of people out there who now buy direct because they want to use points for cruises, etc. But I think there's a larger group who just shrugs it off and says "no big deal". I wonder if they are looking for more ways that they can restrict resale contracts to push people back to direct.

I have to say, that did come to mind when I bought resale which is one of the reasons why I bought at two of my three favorite resorts (BWV and BLT). I tried to buy at BCV as well, but Disney ROFR'd me. But if the restrictions on resale ever come down to owners having to stay at their home resort only, it wouldn't crush my future vacation plans.

Based on the approach they took the last time, I would expect that previously purchased resales would be grandfathered.
Here's to hoping anyway.

When I got called by DVC, they didn't initially say anything either way about resale versus direct. It was in the process of telling me about the focus group and signing me up that I was asked how many contracts I have. I told them we have 3. He asked where we bought them. I told him 2 direct, one resale. He was surprised at the resale as if it was data left off his sheet. So I think they may have been looking at all buying types for the focus group.

So did you go?

I did go. And it was a fun experience. I can't say too much, though, as we had to sign a confidentiality agreement saying we wouldn't disclose the information discussed. It was basically questions about our DVC journey, buying experience, decision making process, and opinions on certain things they asked us about. It was interesting.

Well, I should have known better. :upsidedow

I was patrolling this board waiting to hear what they had to say! I should have known they would make people sign a contract.

Without giving anything away, did they make any future plans that they may be leaning towards evident?

Did it seem positive? Negative? Neither, just informative?

Stupid Disney and their CYA attitude. :rotfl:
