New to DVC. Just wanted to know how much of a discount do you receive off your room rate. I was thinking of staying sun through thurs and paying for friday nite. Does DVC give good discounts on room if paying cash ( going to go during slow season) Thanks

The DVC member discount on rooms rented for cash through MS is 25%. Getting the discount depends on availability. You cannot count on getting a cash discount. Slow season at WDW parks does not necessarily mean slow season for DVC resort bookings.

Keep in mind that the rooms MS rents for cash via MS come from the same inventory that MS uses for rooms reserved for points. MS only allows booking for cash if it believes that all the rooms will not book for points. While you may read here that members get rooms for cash, it is by no means a common occurence, especially for the sold out resorts. That said, it never hurts to ask. Sometimes as your arrival date approaches, rooms become available to book with the member discount.

Also check every so often with CRO/WDWTC. Sometimes it has discounts for rooms at the DVC resorts that are higher than 25%.

when paying i would rather stay at a full service room, why pay cash for wear and tear

Thanks for letting us know that. I don't know why I was under the impression it was the developer 4% plus any points used for exchanges.

Thanks again

Okay! Now I am thoroughly confused. I thought as you did. Which is right or are both right?

Developer 4% plus any points for exchanges are rooms that are available for cash rentals through CRO (income goes to DVC). Plus any unbooked points rooms less than 60 days (breakage income to members).

The rooms that member services can reserve for members with the 25% discount are regular points rooms. They will only reserve these rooms with the member discount if they anticipate that members will not be booking with points. The reservation is treated as a points reservation, meaning standard DVC housekeeping.

Gordonk,
If you can't secure a DVC discounted cash ressie for that Friday night perhaps you could go the route of renting points from a DVC Member for that one night if you don't want to use your own points ? I rented points from a Member on the "points for rent/trade" board last year when I was low on my own points due to a recent Disney cruise. I got a 2 bedroom for less than half what a cash ressie discount would have been.

I'm pretty sure I read here that if you take the 25% discounted room through MS, they can link your ressies and chances are you won't have to switch rooms between your points nights and the cash one. However, if you take the CRO discount, it's then like you have 2 seperate reservations and you have a greater chance of having to switch rooms. I thought someone posted that they preferred spending a few dollars more with the MS discount than one they could have gotten through CRO because of this. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Just something I thought I read.

Well now I'M confused! If the cash ressies from MS are rooms that they do not feel will be booked using points, explain to me how they can predict that 11 mos out? We have cash ressies already (made them a month ago!) for a studio and 1 br at BCV for August 2004. Granted, it's a Sat night, and not like it's 4th of July or Xmas, but still -- it's still summer time (early August -- the 7th, in fact).

Are they basing it on the previous year's data? I would just assume that the studios and 1brs all book up fairly well at BCV in the summer.... why are they unloading them so soon for cash?

I am sure the ressie you have for August is from the 4%. I think what others were trying to say is that the closer you get to the date, the less likely it is for you to get one of the developer rooms.

You are absolutely correct, You can be forced to move because the CRO and the BCV reservation systems do not communicate with each other. Therefore, even though you ask that reservations be linked, it can't really happen. BTW if you are wanting a cash 2-BR, it is my understanding that MS and CRO only rent out 2-br dedicated units (i.e. no lockoffs). So, if you are linking cash vs points 2-brs make sure your "points" 2-BR is a dedicated.

What MS should do for DVC members is price match a CRO rate for members. That way, if you find a better price through CRO, and MS also has cash night availability, MS would allow the member to book through them at the CRO price and the members enitre reservation points/cash could be linked.
