DVC Cruise Ship

So if DVC made a deal to sell half of the next ship the Disney Criuse Line (DCL) builds, would you have have an interest in purchasing a DVC DCL timeshare?

Assume that you could use the DCL points at all the DVC resorts and vice versa.

If that ever happened it would be difficult to have the flexabilty we have now. You couldn't book a cruise cabin for only one night, but they could book a DVC room. Also, ships don't sail everyday, but the resorts are always available. It just wouldn't work.

In theory, absolutely. Definite answers would depend on specifics. It would need to be far less points than it is now.

I agree with Dean. Today using points or cash to book a cruise is almost a 50/50 proposition. No real savings in 'value' between the two.

But compare a DVC stay with a regular WDW stay and the difference in 'value' is tremendous.

The cruise would have to offer a much better deal on point usage than the current DCL does in order to be attractive as a new DVC 'resort' of it's own.

The idea has merits, the details of the workings are the important part. I would think it would be more advantageous on a point basis than the current offering.

The question also has to be asked. as with other Disney resorts, once "our" boat became available, would it mean the Magic and Wonder are no longer available for point usage?

I do hope when the 3rd boat becomes available that they have a 10 day cruise, one week was nice but 10 days would be nicer. It could have a 10 day cruise followed by a 4 day cruise, giving it a 2 week schedule which can be fixed in the Disney tradition. The only other problem with this is, assuming it goes from Port Canaveral, is finding a time slots in the terminal for it to dock without interfering with the Magic or Wonders rotation. Of course the scuttlebutt is that the 3rd boat might be out of California so that would not be a factor.

I question how interest in a ship could remain until 2042. It is not like an interest in a land resort.

I also wonder why the boat could not last 40 more years, given proper maintenance. I think the real matter is will we want newer, bigger and better in 10 years. Maybe the ships of the future will be powered by revolutionary technologies we cannot fathom today.
