DVC Casting Call - Deadline March 30th

I was just tweeted this and thought it was cool! We fit into every category except for the kids ages, so I might send an email in anyway...just in case.

CASTING CALL FOR DISNEY VACATION CLUB TV PROGRAM:

We are producing a ½ hour program featuring Disney Vacation Club and it’s members that will air on cable networks such as Travel Channel, ABC Family, Style Network and HGTV. We are looking for fun, out-going and energetic families to be part of our show!

If you or any DVC members you know plan to travel in March, April or May, 2010, please contact us ASAP! All participants MUST be current DVC members. Deadline for submissions: MARCH 30, 2010!

We are looking for the following families…

* Disney World in Orlando, FL: A new DVC family who may have just joined the Club and are planning a trip to Disney World. This would include mom, dad and 2-3 kids between the ages of 4-11-years-old.
* International Vacation: A DVC family who has been a member for several years planning an adventure travel trip to Europe or any other international destination. Ideally, we’d like mom, dad and teens (between the ages of 13-18) who plan to travel together on a family vacation through DVC.
* A Destination Wedding! We are looking for a young couple planning their wedding in Hawaii or other tropical destination at a DVC property.
* Family Reunion or Multi-Generational Family Trip: We are looking for grandparents who are DVC members, traveling on a vacation with their kids and their grand children (between the ages of 4-20). Perhaps it is a trip to the West Coast, the Grand Canyon, Lake Tahoe or some other fun outdoor experience.

Please email the following:

1. Your name, contact email and phone numbers so we can reach you
   
2. A RECENT photo of you and your immediate family (please, no hats or sunglasses).
   
3. A brief paragraph or two describing who you are, your personalities, how long you have been a DVC member and anything else that you want us to know!
   
4. When and where you plan to travel to a DVC destination.
   
5. Your story and DVC vacation travel plans. Tell us why you would be great on our show!

What type of questions did they ask you?

I send one for family reunion, but sadly did not get a call Maybe I didn't do enough...

I sent an email on March 30th. We are family that's pretty new to DVC and are about to take our first trip (May 16-21) to our home resort AKV. We have three kids who will be with us on the trip ages 8,9,12. We also have a baby girl, but she's staying home with her Grammy! The producer called me the next day and we talked for a while about our family. She asked for some more photos of us. On Wednesday night my husband who was at work, myself and the producer had a 3 way call. She asked us both all kinds of questions about what DVC means to us. Why did we join? Do we plan to travel internationally with DVC? What do our kids think about DVC? What is a typical day in the life of our family like...what do we do on weekends? How would we describe ourselves, our personalities? ...it was about a 30 min phone call. She said we are definitely on their list of families they are considering for an upcoming show. She did ask us several times to confirm that the baby won't be with us since from a production stand point it's easier without babies. She said they are really looking for a family with just slightly younger kids closer to 6 or 7. I'm guessing if they don't find one soon then it'll be us that they pick! I can totally see why they would pick you! What a beautiful family! My category was mulit generation family visit. We are taking our two grown children and 3 grandchildren May 8-16th. I just got a call back, nothing was confirmed, she just wanted more information on "who was who" in our family. It would be a wonderful opportunity for any family to participate. I'll keep my fingers crossed for everyone! Does anyone know the final selection date?

I spoke with Alison the other day as well. She asked for four more photos of our family. She basically asked us the same questions. I did get an email from her thanking us for our time and that she like our photos!! I hope that one of our two families get picked......Good Luck....

After work tonite I found they had written back to me also requesting more photos of our family! We are heading to the Disney Baltic Cruise July 6, so it was a bit later for their time frame, and my girls are a bit older than teens, but we sure are a fun family, LOL!! Here is the pic I sent in...sending off more recent ones tonite. Good luck to all the applicants, hope to see one of you (or us) on the show!!

Just curious...does anyone know if they provide any compensation for missing out on a couple of days of vacation to film?

I am just curious, what if anything, did anyone do to verify the validity of these casting ads? After reading the ad it's pretty vague as to which talent agency they are representing, etc. Because of these concerns I called DVC today & they had no clue what I was talking about, although, they did say that someone from the Marketing department would contact me tomorrow because they are the ones that deal with all the DVC media projects & outlets.

I'd love to apply if I felt 100% that this was legit & reliable but I can't seem to find anything on the web that points me to that direction.

If you've interviewed with them have they mentioned the name of the casting agency, who they represent, or what exactly this show is for/about?

I was interviewed and was told that they would like to include my family in his plans and would be calling me back after they meet with DVC executives on Monday. I assumed that DVC will have the final say. I didn't want to presume that I was going to be chosen, so I didn't ask too many questions. He did say that DVC didn't want to be the "Best Kept Secret" any longer, and are now going to be promoting it. I can't imagine they would be filming on-site without Disney's permission. We are staying at BWV. I will let everyone know what is going on if they call me back.

I was also contacted about an hour after I sent in my e-mail. They are interested in my family, but we are traveling to europe later than they prefer, so they said they had us on the list for the europe family just in case. We'll see.

Just an FYI- several years ago a family who have been members for ages was contacted to be filmed at their home for one of the promo videos to be shown to prospective members. One of their family photos had already been featured on the "Welcome Home" folder. They are a large family- I think 6 kids, some adopted, of different racial backgrounds and are absolutely wonderful people. They had expenses for haircuts, spent time tidying their home, took time off work, etc. and at the last minute decided not to participate as they were questioning how their kids would end up feeling about the whole thing ( feeling a bit exploited, perhaps due to the demographics of their family). Meanwhile though they were not given anything in terms of compensation for their time or ancillary expenses. I'd go into this not expecting anything, but it would be nice for chosen families to receive "something" for their time. I've watched the DCL video onboard featuring member families explaining why they liked DVC/DCL- wonder if they were given any compensation for their time? Has anyone here been featured on that promo video? Congrats in advance to anyone here who is chosen and hopefully we'll all get to see you on film! I think it would be a fun venture, for sure.---Kathy
