DVC Benefits

If the search was working, I would have searched. Honest.

I know I will probably find all of this out once we are official (should be closing this week on our VWL resale), but to be honest, I can't wait anymore.

Before I ever decided we should buy DVC (and it's all you folks' fault that we did - somehow I found these boards, and that was that) (and I made that decision in about 2 weeks time, which amazingly enough coincided with a GREAT resale listing...), we made plans for my June business trip to Orlando. Hubster is going with, and we're doing non-Disney stuff and a lot of non-park Disney stuff (like Dolphins in Depth, La Nouba, etc). (Now we're also going in November on a previously planned trip as well, but we'll HOPEFULLY be going HOME on that trip!)

So, in my usual long-winded way, my question concerns DVC benefits. Do you get a DVC card to enable you to enjoy the benefits even when you're not staying DVC? We are staying offsite (DTD Hilton via Priceline) during this so-called business trip (I'm going to 1.5 days of the five I should be going to, but thus are the perks of being your own boss), and one jaunt is to Typhoon Lagoon and I see DVC'ers get a $4 discount. Will I be able to get that then?

Thanks so much, and thanks for all the info I've gotten from these boards in the past several months. I've gone from not knowing a thing about DVC to being able to convince the skeptical hubster that we should buy in an amazingly short amount of time, and I owe it all to you!

You can use most of the DVC benefits, except those tied to a points stay like pool hopping.

Thanks! Now I just have to chill so I can find out what the rest of those benefits ARE! But hey, I have to have something to look forward to - like leaving May 30 for the happiest place in the world isn't enough...

While you are waiting to become "official", take a look at this:

DVC (&other) Discounts

As far as I know, all of the perks/benefits listed on the linked web page are available even when Members are not staying at a DVC resort. You will need your membership card, though.

When you check in to a DVC resort, you receive "Perks Pages" - a newsletter that that lists all of the current discounts/perks. You also get "Portable Perks", which is a pocket-sized version.

Pool-Hopping Information for 2003
Disney Vacation Club Members and their guests staying with them at Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Beach Club Villas are permitted to use other Walt Disney World® Resort and Disney Vacation Club resort hotel pools (other than the hotel at which you are staying) if these pools are not at capacity on any given day. Please check with the front desk of the destination hotel regarding pool availability. A Walt Disney World Resort ID card identifying you as a "DVC Member" is required to use the other pools. This offer is not available at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.

Hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, Disney Vacation Club Members may not "pool hop" during the following dates*:

April 12 - 20, 2003
May 23 - 26, 2003
June 30, 2003 - July 6, 2003
November 24 - 30, 2003
December 20, 2003 - January 3, 2004

If you are using the pool at a resort other than the one where you are staying, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate guests of that resort.

*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.
