DVC at Caribbean Beach?

I haven't set foot on that property since 1989 but I remember it being overly large with a disappointing (to my 10-year-old-self) food court.

Don't see myself staying at a DVC property there unless I was desperate, but perhaps I'm being uncharitable... 1989 was a long time ago!

Hasn't this rumor been around for a while now? I can't see how it makes any sense but anything can happen I guess!

Maybe it will be a separate DVC from the deluxe club. How could they allow buyers of a less expensive moderate resort to book other deluxe resorts at 7 months?

:earsboy: Bill
It being a moderate/deluxe and when you can book is not relevant. Assuming a moderate DVC does come about and following the moderate resort setup, the points per night would have to be less than the cost per night at a deluxe. If a buyer buys into a moderate DVC, they would still have to have enough point to book at deluxe.

ETA - this is not the only time this rumor has surfaced. Until I see permits, it's just that, a rumor.

I feel the same way except I was in my 30s back 2005ish when we stayed there. I can't really imaging making it even bigger and more sprawling. If this really happens, I'm curious how many points they will "charge" per night. AK has nights as low as 9 points in a deluxe resort during adventure season.

I suppose they could make it work by charging lower points per night, but keeping the costs to buy in the same as they are now. This would then make the points worth the same as current points for trading. Now given that I can get a standard studio at BWV for 10 points a night at certain times of the year, how low would the CBR DVC points have to be to make it worth the effort to trade there occasionally.

That kind of model seems totally opposite to what has been happening lately with each resort costing more and more points per night and prices per point going up.

A few years ago I saw a plan to extend the waterway from CB to Bay Lake.

:earsboy: Bill

Not Bay Lake....Crescent Lake in the BW/BC area. Bay Lake is 4-5 miles away.

Beyond that, just because this proposed development would be at a traditionally moderate resort doesn't mean it would be a "Moderate DVC." Rooms would all be new construction.

Maybe they will restrict all resale to your home resort or else you will be exiled here

If you look at the location of the rumored parcel of land, its possible that Disney could build a self-contained, stand alone DVC resort on that property. Access and egress would be via Victory Drive. Assuming the resort would have its own check-in and front desk, there there would be no need for the DVC guests to step onto the Caribbean Beach Resort property to access their DVC villas.

As I have said before, Disney could dust off the architectural plans for the VGF building, make some site specific modifications, change the theming, and plop it into the rumored parcel of land. To think that the new resort would have to be a "moderate DVC resort" is premature.

I just don't see how they could possibly lower the points per night to be less than OKW. And if the new resort were the same point cost per night as OKW would you chose a moderate resort over a deluxe resort? I wouldn't.

I'd choose POR over OKW. I don't know that this is a realistic idea, but I can see situations in which it might be feasible.

And what happened to the other room conversions? Supposedly BC wasn't it? Or just building a new stand alone? A smaller DVC at CBR makes very little sense IMO. If it were going to still be a "deluxe" resort they would need to build all the amenities and would lose the benefit of using the existing facilities at CBR. And if making it a "moderate" DVC it leaves no room for expanding on it if it is successful.

First the Poly mistake, then the addition to VWL (which I personally disagree with for various reasons but I understand the benefits to DVC for doing it) and now this? I think DVC has lost it's direction if this ends up being reality and not rumor. Point creep and an amazingly fast increase in price/point seems to have painted them into a corner but this doesn't seem like a positive way out. Just more build 'em cheap to make more money fast.

Disney loves making the DVC and hotel share facilities and hence share costs (i.e. pass on the majority of the costs to DVC members). I doubt that any new DVC is going to be a completely separate stand alone resort.
