DVC “Confessions”

My confession - I love heavily themed resorts and rooms. I know it can be downright tacky but I just can't help myself. DVC is headed away from that and is favoring more neutral and classic designs but it's just boring to me. I want a DISNEY room. Go hard or go home. If RIV had a castle bed or BWV had an actual carnival/circus theme, or BLT had ANY theme I would probably throw money at them - but instead I can't get over how boring they are. I love AKV, PVB and even GFV, at least they keep you in the "bubble".

Pardon me kind sir, but does this bed come in king size? 🤣

I have never understood why they don't pick one of the DVC resorts and reimagine it to go totally, all out, in-your-face with classic Disney IP. Like, shamelessly. Or build a new one -- I guess there would be a lot of complication and controversy in reimagining a DVC resort, especially if the intended effect is to make it more popular and more heavily trafficked.

In any event, it seems like there is a large contingent of DVC members who yearn for a place like this at WDW.

Like a deluxe version of Pop Century and Art of Animation on steroids.!! :)

That's what Tokyo Disney is for. Sure, it's not DVC, but it's out there.

I totally understand those who do not like BLT because of lack of themeing. The biggest selling point in real estate is location, location, location. BLT has 2 bathrooms in a 1 bedroom suite. With a family of 5 trying to get going in the morning, that is a game saver. With children under 8 years old, leaving MK with a 5 min walk to your room is priceless. The positives in my mind far out weigh the negatives. Just my opinion, but this is why BLT is my favorite.

The theming of BLT is classic CR WDW theming, arguably the most classic WDW theming of all the resorts. Just because there's no frilly cathouse-by-the-seashore decor, or logs, or Ariels and sh*t all over the place doesn't mean there's no "theme."

The US market isn't into that. Heck, people get upset about Disney IP in Disney parks. So imagineering caters to 'location' as a theme rather than style.

The Asian market is entirely different and focused heavily on incorporating Disney into its hotels. It's not only Tokyo. Shanghai Disneyland Hotel is sophisticated and in your face Disney as is Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, MiraCosta, Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Hollywood Hotel, and Explorer's Lodge. Interestingly we just stayed at the new Fantasy Springs Hotel two weeks ago and there's virtually not much Disney in that.

Lol, I tried looking into Tokyo Disney once and got so confused by the website that I gave up. And this is coming from someone who has zero problem navigating the complexities of WDW.

Planning a Tokyo Disney trip has become more challenging post-covid, and booking a room on-site previously meant you had to be ready to go to snag one in seconds. The opening of Fantasy Springs has made planning a massive challenge, even booking the packages to guarantee entry to the new land are a minefield, counter-intuitive, and lengthy.

I love theming, but not necessarily all Disney IP theming, for the resorts. My favorite resorts are Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian, and Animal Kingdom Lodge because of their original theming. Even French Quarter, Riverside, Grand Floridian, Coronado and Boardwalk have theming I like. I wish the rooms were still more to the original themes, as most Disney interior refurbs have been to genericize the room theming - but still love the buildings, lobbies, and grounds of those resorts. I'm not into the Pop/Art of Animation style theming as much. BLT, Riviera I find very nice - but just feel like hotels. Sure, Riviera is supposed to evoke the south of France and does to some degree, but definitely more to 'modern' south of France, so just a nice resort.

Website is CONFUSING but the ticket prices are great and Disney Sea became our favorite park after visiting this Summer. We did not stay on site because of the cost (and the confusing website) but we stayed along their monorail loop at a Hilton. The hotel room itself was nothing to write home about (dated and not pretty carpet) but the bay view and the hotel itself and room size were fine.
