Dummy Fastpasses - does this still work?

I've tried looking at other posts but can't seem to find a definitive answer. For our scheduled Epcot day we won't be getting to the park until midday so I have a Test Track FP for 12:50. As there are no Tier 2 rides that we will want to go on I have got a FP for Living with the Land and Spaceship Earth for before we even get to the park with the hope that once we do Test Track we can start to look for Soarin or FEA.

Will this work or do we physically have to tap the Magic Bands at the earlier FP's to be able to reload later in the day?

There are mixed reports about this. Sometimes they fall away but at other times they hang around. It would be ‘safer’ to quickly scan in and walk away.

Usually, and I stress usually, expired equals used in the fastpass world. Some have reported that they could not make a fourth fastpass and the throwaway fastpasses did not drop off MDE. I have never encountered this problem and have had no problems just letting them expire and making another Tier 1 fastpass. Since TT and LWTL are really far apart and not convenient to just tap out, try to make a fourth fastpass once you tap for TT and see what happens.

I wouldn't count on it. You're far better off just tapping and running on two FP+ after you do TT. Maybe MS Green and then SE, you can tap both of those within 5 minutes (or the time it takes to walk from MS to SE) and then start looking for more.

So it's worked for me in the past, but had something different happen to me on Fri at HS.

We didn't get to HS until 4pm roughly. Had scheduled 2 FP's in the morning, and was hoping to get another FP after we tapped in to Rockin Roller Coaster. Well, the FP's did fall off, but when I tried to book a FP, it was acting like that was the only FP we booked, and it was making me book 2 other Tier 2 rides.

That's the first time that's happened to me, where it fell off, but it didn't recognize they were booked

Thanks all, I think i'll tap into 2 other FP's before/just after TT or just ride them!

That's what we do. To me, unless you're in a huge rush, no reason to waste a FP+. While Living with the Land isn't the most thrilling ride, it's a nice way to relax and spend 15 minutes.
