Dumb FP question

I generally think I have a really good handle on FP in DL... but there's one little quirk that I'd like clarity on.

It seems like I've heard it said that you can't hold two FPs for the same attraction at the same time. Is that true?

For instance, if I were to make it near the front of the FP line for GOTG, and got a 9:00am return time... would I be able to get a new FP for GOTG at 9:00am BEFORE I actually use the first FP? (I know that I could get a FP for another attraction... I'm just unsure if I can get one for the same attraction.)

No. You cannot hold two for the same ride. Once you use your GOTG FP you could get another one for it, but not before.

How do they know? I often see cast members take them and just drop them in a box. Rarely do I see anyone scanning FPs.

Not to pick nits, but it's not the actual use of the FP, but the return time opening that allows you to pull another. So, in your scenario, you can pull another FP for GotG at 9:00, when your window opens. You do not have to have used the previous FP. They have no way of knowing when (or whether) you've used your FP.

Oh... I'm very interested in picking nits. That's exactly the distinction I'm trying to clarify.

The easiest way to tell if you are available for your next FP is to look at your current Fastpass. It will list on the bottom the exact time you are eligible to pull a new fastpass, and you can pull for any ride regardless of your previous FP or whether it has actually been used or not.

So, theoretically, if you pull a FP and the return time is 9:00 AM, and it will say on the bottom of the FP that you are eligible for your next FP at 9:00 AM. In this case, you could go get your second FP for the same ride at 9:01 and then go use the first FP anytime during your 9:00 to 10:00 FP window. So in this way you are technically holding two FPs for the same ride at once

Not exactly true. If you pull a GotG FP at 8am with a 12pm return time, at 10am you could get an FP for any other ride but GotG. You wouldn't be able to get a 2nd GotG FP until the window opens at 12pm. However the FP pulled at 8am would say next FP is available at 10am, despite the additional restriction on holding a 2nd FP for the same ride.

Oh really? gosh I wasn't aware of that! Thanks! :thanks:

Do you have experience with this recently, as in since they merged DCA and DL? This is definitely currently in place?

Yes you can in this instance. If your return time is 9-10 you can get another FP at 9AM. What you can't do is have a FP for 1-2PM and expect to get another FP at 11:30 for the same ride just because it's been two hours. That is the only caveat.

This is definitely the case. You can only hold one FP for the same ride until the return window opens up. At the bottom of the FP it says so. We experience this with RSR where we pulled an afternoon FP at 8:30 and tried to get another FP for RSR at 10:30, but because our return window for that ride hadn't opened we couldn't. We could get a FP for another ride though. This is actually very clever of Disney as it helps spread out the FP for any particular ride.

That is so funny to me that I've never noticed/encountered this before! When it comes to Disney, we really never stop learning :cutie:

May I What text on the bottom of the FP are you referring to? I've only ever noticed the text that says "Another FASTPASS ticket will be available after ______" and the time is always reflective of the lesser of 2 hours or when the FP window opens, no mention of "for any ride other than __" or something along those lines ??

I can answer this question definitively. I pulled a GotG FP Sunday morning for 8:40 AM. At 8:41 AM, before using that FP, I pulled a second GotG FP for 9:20 AM.

Which you wouldn't have been able to do at 8:41 AM if the return time had been 1:30 PM.

Yes, this is how it works, and has always worked. If you pull a FP at 9am for 2pm on GOTG, you would be eligible for another FP at 11am, and you can pull it for any ride BUT GOTG. You can't pull another one for GOTG until the start time of your current FP.

Of course not, which is why I explicitly stated the times. I'm not sure why people keep focusing on this scenario that the OP never asked about. Nobody's claimed that you can hold two FPs for a ride if your FP time hasn't come up yet.

Just don't want the inexperienced to be confused or disappointed.

(And, of course, in this specific scenario, had the GotG return time been 1:30, the OP wouldn't have been able to pull ANY FP at 8:41 -- since that pass was collected shortly after 8am, and so the next pass couldn't be pulled until 10:xx. The only way you can pull a FP at less than 2 hours if if your return time is less than 2 hours.)

Anyway -- thank you all! I've got the answer to my dumb question. I was pretty sure I knew the answer, but I wanted to make sure so I didn't stand in a long line for a FP that I couldn't get.

Now the questions simply are these: how early do I need to show up to be near the front of the FP line at rope drop? And how many minutes before my window opens should I get back in that line to pull my second FP?

Question... Are you going on a day with EMH?

Question 1 - 90 mins.
Question 2 - 15 mins (If you are on a day with EMH, all bets are off, as Sunday, EMH got first dibs on FP and when the rope drop happened, FP was already at 1030am. 5 mins later it was at 11am.)

Tomorrow. No EMH.

90 Minutes before park open? Blech.

All bets are off then, as I have a 90 minute drive first... no way we're hitting the road at 5am.

Probably we'll just have to be satisfied with one FP.
