DVC Value Calculator

This just reminded me of something else I like about the RIV one bedroom. Both VGF and RIV have a curved bench at the kitchen table. Poly, BWV, BCV, BLT have a straight bench. That curved bench is perfect for trapping wiggly eaters while still allowing the adults to have a normal face to face conversation. Otherwise it’s adult-kid-kid-adult on one side of the table and me on the other side … it feels like a booth at a diner. It’s an oddly niche thing to care about, but functionally it’s so much nicer.

One day I plan to make Thanksgiving dinner in an OKW villa.
I can only remember one timeshare with a kitchen that was equipped well enough that I would seriously cook in it---Shanty Creek in northern lower Michigan. Decent kninves, a roasting pan or two, a slow cooker, etc.

I have thought about trying to pull of e.g. Thanksgiving in OKW as well--the counterspace is probably enough--but it would have to be a stripped-down version.

If DVCMC determines that doing so is in the best interests of the system, yes, they would. I do not know what criteria DVCMC would use to make such a determination.

However, it is instructive to look at AKV for 2027---Value and Concierge views went up in points, and Savanna view went down. That is presumably because there was insufficient demand for the latter and/or unacceptably large demand for the former.

Does that mean they will increase the points needed at CCV in December?

It definitely looks like they should! Could DVC say it is mostly just the studios getting slammed? I wouldn’t mind the WDW point charts to increase December but only if they didn’t lower summer… again. People speculate with all the Fixed/Fav Weeks in December, increasing the points would hurt for DVD.

They did exactly that during the most recent reallocation, which occurred over the 2021-2023 (or maybe into the 2024) points charts, in general making summer cheaper and fall more expensive. It takes several years of points charts to make changes because they're limited in how much they can increase a given night from one year to the next. I think that they're currently in evaluation mode to see what effect those changes have on demand. So it's possible they'll make changes again in future, but when I can't say.

Yes, it would! I don't know whether they realized it when they were doing the most recent reallocation or were surprised when they noted that the number of points some FW owners had bought were less than their weeks cost after reallocation, even given that they had purchased 10% more points than that week required at the time of purchase. DVC has to make up that deficit somehow.

Based on my read of the governing documents, they are not supposed to take into account the impact of fixed weeks. But I suspect proving that they did would be hard.

it is possible for some of the fixed weeks to become "good deals" as long as the fixed week system as a whole does not enter a deficit. Because there was a 10% cushion everywhere, that gives some latitude.

I wonder if they thought the 10% cushion would help balance out with future winners and losers, and then surprise surprise - the majority of Fav Week buyers were savvy enough to pick the categories most likely to rise.

I think adjusting December 1-23 points charts would go a long ways to addressing frustration with how hard it is to book during that time. It is far and away the time of year where you save the most money over rack rates and it’s a lovely time to visit WDW. No wonder members using their membership for personal reasons or for spec rentals target that period. Meanwhile, summer will cost you more points for rooms that Disney sells with up to 40% discounts off of rack rates. Or, compare it with Oct/Nov - is early December really less in demand than Oct 1 - Nov 23?

I think pre-COVID, people probably didn’t take off time from work or school between Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, that period truly was a lower demand time. In the age of remote work and school, I think people have gotten comfortable taking time off whenever they want and doing whatever work or school they need to do during that time from their laptop. And, if they can score a great deal at WDW during that time, they’ll jump at it.

Yeah I wonder which period would have more demand if Dec 1-23 points were equal or more than Oct 1 - Nov 23?

I like Dec’s lower points and see why it’s super popular. After Thanksgiving WDW is in full Christmas/holiday mode with all the decorations and Epcot begins the holiday food booths and storytellers around the world.

Christmastime is such a cool experience. For repeat trips though, my pick goes to mid-fall. Feels the most ‘peak’ time for us at WDW. I’d favor Dec less if it didn’t save us points.

Just don’t know if our take is typical or not.

I don't *want* DVC to adjust the point charts for December, because selfishly, I'd like to use less points during December visits. However, I figure they are bound to adjust the charts for studios at least. That belief is why I purchased a favorite week for December. It's really tough to get Boulder Ridge in December for a studio, but it's a fairly widespread issue in December so it wouldn't surprise me if all resorts are adjusted for weeks 48-50.

Yep, I like Oct and Nov as well as Dec. But can they just change them at one resort? Aren’t all the WDW resorts using the same seasons?

I don’t know the answer to that specifically, but I think they need to adjust points charts across the board for 12/1-12/23. It’s not just a CCV problem.

Yes all the WDW resorts follow the same 7 seasons and same dates for each.

But the resorts don’t all follow the same flow.

Like compare VGF standard studio with SSR:

IMG_1873.jpegIMG_1874.jpeg

At VGF Seasons 1-4 have very little difference in points. Weeknights are 16-18pts; Weekends 20-21pts.

At SSR Season 4 weeknight requires over 50% more points than Season 1.

There’s many differences like this throughout WDW point charts. In May BCV weekends are 16pts a night when SSR is basically the same with 15pts standard and 17pts preferred. But then they diverge other times of year.

If you look at the percent of points to jump to 1BR and 2BR, those change at different rates across different seasons and resorts. Some resorts jump a little for weekends, other jump much more. One jumps a little to the next the season, another jumps alot.

The result is relative values are not consistent.

So individual resorts aren’t confined to keeping pace with others. Some resorts can increase Dec 1-23 and lower something else to offset even if that doesn’t happen at all the WDW resorts.

And while WDW does keep the same dates/seasons I don’t think it’s a requirement because VDH and VGC are vastly different even though they’re both considered ‘Disneyland Resort’.

If they raise points in one season, they have to lower them in another to balance the charts. I’d love for them to raise Fall points again, if they’ll lower January and February points to compensate.
