Duggars make 17!

There are many large families around here. They seem to be happy, well-fed, level-headed kids whose parents also came from large families. Their lives, their business. We love visiting these families...they are a ball to hang out with.

I also know several families who have adopted 10 -12. These families work as teams, and again, the proof is in the pudding, the kids are turning out to be fine and dandy.

Not the life I would choose, but certainly not abusive. (Although I am always reminded of the Monty Python "The Meaning of Life!")

The chances of getting a hair in your food at that house are pretty darn high:scared:

Disgusting. :headache:

Sibling #11, come on down. You're the next contestant on Let's Continue to Abuse our Children. Taking care of baby #16 is now your full time job. Mom is too busy with #17 to help out. Don't pass go, don't have a normal childhood, and don't collect your $2000 in donations. Those are for Mommy and Daddy.

Amen!!! You read my mind 100%!!! Do these kids have any friends at all? I am guessing it's hard to have friends when you are taking care of an infant at age 9. I am sure they will now have a new show to drum up the old donations. Their cuppards must be running low. :sad2:

OT- I just wonder how having all these children impacts her health? I mean I love kids are we are having#4 (that we are actually raising ourselves and don't expect donations for) and I can feel how my body is different with each pregnancy. I could never imagine giving birth to 17 children. Maybe she has a trap door?

MosMom.....clown car!.....:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Can't catch my breath!!! OMG...cramp!!!!

I'm an only child so, while I don't think being 1 of 17 is ideal, as long they can support them it's none of my biz!

And, how the heck did they come up with names like Jinger and Joy-Anna before going the obvious route of Jennifer??[/QUOTE]

That's EXACTLY what I was wondering! LOL

I admit that I'm am fascinated by this family. I have three girls that I love dearly, but there is no way in Hates that I would want 17. I am jealous at how well those kids seem to get along. My three argue about EVERYTHING. I couldn't imagine adding more to the mix. AY AY AY!

I have to wonder WHY they keep having more though. Honestly. I know it's their life, they can have as many as they want, but it's now seeming like a media thing. They are famous because of the size of the family. How long will she keep having children? It seems that each pregnancy becomes even higher risk.

While there're some things about the Duggars that seem odd to me (i.e. the "J" name thing), at least they take their parental duties seriously. How often in the news is there a parent of 2 kids who can't seem to grasp the concept of being a responsible parent?

Karla B.

Are you kidding?:confused3 They don't take their parental duties seriously, they make their other kids take parental duties seriously. I love a large family. I would have 10 kids if we could, but it would still be me and dh that would be raising them- not them raising each other. These kids don't have any type of childhood. On one of the specials a girl of about 8 or 9 was so excited that they were getting new washers and dryers because it would make her life so much easier!!! Take a poll at your local elementary achool and let me know how many kids are doing cartwheels over new appliances! I find that sad. I agree with the poster who says that this is like a cult. These children barely socialize with anyone but themselves.

I wonder if they act the same when the camera's go off.:scratchin

I.

I think the reason you don't see them fight is that they have no sense of identity or self. They just conform into part of the collective (sorry, old Star Trek reference there;) ) I think if you don't nurture each child's own personal interest and make them all play violin, and make all the girls do laundry and cook, then this is what you get.... Simply Drones

Yup;) That's why I said it:rotfl: :lmao:

I know what you are thinking:rotfl2:

That does look like a time consuming project when there are some many mouths to feed. There are days I can barely get a comb near my head and I only have two!

As long as they stay off public assistance, they can have as many as they want. It is none of my biz.

That's exactly how I feel. I don't care how many kids people choose to have, or not have as the case may be-as long as they're not expecting me to pay for their choices.

But, yes they are getting us to pay for it, they are just slicker at it than most. They claim their house is a church and therefore do not pay taxes on it and there are many, many other tax breaks they get.

You know, they take no public assistance and they carry zero debt. Jimmy Joe Jim Bob or whatever the father's name is happened to have done well in real estate.
I'm not saying that 17 kids is a good idea, but at least he is raising them with his own money and not the states.

I do think they should probably get a new Television for their bedroom however.

they take no overt public assistance, but by virtue of having their home declared a church they pay no property taxes and are able to avoid income taxes on the items that they are 'gifted' (in lieu of payment by tlc and other companies that run their specials). joe bob (dad) is also an active proponant of a proposal wherein homeschoolers would receive a government cash stipend for each child they homeschool-not a tax credit as many homeschooler's propose (and he would not fully benefit from because of his personal tax status). so long as they utilize the same public services as the rest of us (fire, police, public roads, libraries...) but activly avoid paying for them they are being assisted by the public.

i find it interesting (and deceptive) that the parents put forth the appearance that they live their debt free lifestyle purely because of personal efforts on their part pre children-and fail to mention that joe bob's father was a tremendously wealthy land developer who provided significant 'family wealth' to his children. this is not the case of 2 then young marrieds who both worked at a grocery store simply parlaying their savings into buying first a car wash, then a car sales place...

on a practical note-if you look up the warning signs for a 'cult' many if not most mirror the manner in which the duggars live.:guilty:

I find this family both amazing and repulsive at the same time. I have been amazed at the organization that it takes to run this household on a daily basis. (Their organizational skills are much better than mine!!) But the child rearing is what I do not understand... An older child having to raise a younger one.:confused3 One on one time with mom and dad is so important. Quite cuddle and hug times. Or just reading a book together. Our children are now 23, 21, 19 and 18 and we still make sure we get time with each of them. How else do really get to know them as young adults. I guess my one big question is...do they really know their children as individuals and not just another name in the family Bible?

I want to get into that racket. I would call my church "The Shrine of the Dust Mite - Holey Couch branch". We do have many pilgrims in and out praying at the kitchen door hoping God (or his high priestess) will drop a Freezer Pop into their outspread hands.

I just hope that Jim Bob and Michelle respect their children as individuals and do not expect them to follow Mom and Dad's example all through life. What if, upon achieving young adulthood, the kids want to move away from home, explore another belief system, marry someone from outside the family circle, come out of the closet (you know there's at least one!), etc?

I am the oldest of four boys and I did my share of caring for my younger brothers. There is a 13 year age difference between me and my youngest brother. It was A LOT of work and responsibility, especially with the youngest being the proverbial "devil child." I think that the Duggars' buddy system and constant pregnancy is too much for their kids and, like others have posted, there will likely be some resentment from the children.

Part of the reason they can afford that 7,000 sq ft house is they use it for worship which allows them certain tax breaks since their home is a "church." (I believe I read that somewhere - I certainly didn't dream it up on my own!) So while they are not on public assistance, they are working the system.
::yes::

Lets not forget all of the handouts they get from companies. Then the companies write if off their taxes. The Duggars claim tax exemptions and don't have to pay taxed on their handouts.

The van they have is owned by a church they do not attend. I would love to get use of nice vehicles from free.

Very funny! :lmao:
