There are many large families around here. They seem to be happy, well-fed, level-headed kids whose parents also came from large families. Their lives, their business. We love visiting these families...they are a ball to hang out with.
I also know several families who have adopted 10 -12. These families work as teams, and again, the proof is in the pudding, the kids are turning out to be fine and dandy.
Not the life I would choose, but certainly not abusive. (Although I am always reminded of the Monty Python "The Meaning of Life!")

Can't catch my breath!!! OMG...cramp!!!!
That's why I said it
They don't take their parental duties seriously, they make their other kids take parental duties seriously. I love a large family. I would have 10 kids if we could, but it would still be me and dh that would be raising them- not them raising each other. These kids don't have any type of childhood. On one of the specials a girl of about 8 or 9 was so excited that they were getting new washers and dryers because it would make her life so much easier!!!
Take a poll at your local elementary achool and let me know how many kids are doing cartwheels over new appliances!
I find that sad. I agree with the poster who says that this is like a cult. These children barely socialize with anyone but themselves.
