Duggars make 17!

::yes::

Lets not forget all of the handouts they get from companies. Then the companies write if off their taxes. The Duggars claim tax exemptions and don't have to pay taxed on their handouts.

The van they have is owned by a church they do not attend. I would love to get use of nice vehicles from free.

Yup. I'm amazed at the number of people who are saying they don't receive any public assistance. Many families could probably live on the public assistance they get every year.

There's nothing illegal about what they're doing, we may not like it, but they've broken no law. If the citizens of that state want to change the laws, or we want our national laws changed to remove the loopholes that people exploit then we have to push for that. I've said for years I'm all for a flat tax system, because then the loopholes are gone.

Here's a question: if a woman chose to have 17 abortions, wouldn't that be her business? I can't understand how we can judge a woman's choice to have a ton of kids, but to NOT have a bunch of kids is a personal choice. As far as I'm concerned, BOTH choices are personal.

How long will she keep having children? It seems that each pregnancy becomes even higher risk.
I have not done maternity care in a long time, but my recollection is that anything after 4 pregnancies is high risk because of the stretching the uterus has gone thru.
I did see their show when they announced that she was pregnant with baby number 17. It showed they had to search for a new doctor because their old one apparently had told them that getting pregnant again was too high risk for him to deal with. They also mentioned that Mrs. Duggar had a C-section during a previous pregnancy and was intent on having a natural birth this time instead of a C-section (can't put in the 'v' word for where the birth comes from, so I have to settle for 'natural'). Doing that would be so far above high risk that you probably can't even figure the odds of her uterus rupturing during labor.

These kids don't have any type of childhood. On one of the specials a girl of about 8 or 9 was so excited that they were getting new washers and dryers because it would make her life so much easier!!! Take a poll at your local elementary achool and let me know how many kids are doing cartwheels over new appliances! I find that sad.
:thumbsup2
I think you put your finger on one of the things that bothered me about that show.
Also, it appeared that most of the girls' 'home school education' had to do with doing things like organizing the laundry for washing, treating stains, washing & drying it, sorting it to make it got back to the correct person, folding it and putting it away.
The boys got to do things like keeping up the website and learning to do some computer support. I think the older ones are working with their dad (and probably get tax benefits because they do computer support for his church).

agree with the poster who says that this is like a cult. These children barely socialize with anyone but themselves.
On the TV show, they went to some sort of summer camp, but it was all families exactly like themselves (except some were on their way to megafamilies, not quite there yet). It appeared that the Duggars are the model for family organization for many of the families (some almost to the point of worship).
If all the people you know have umpteen children, all the kids are in charge of their younger siblings and all the girls are getting lessons in laundry management as their main education, that's what you think the world is like.

I want to get into that racket. I would call my church "The Shrine of the Dust Mite - Holey Couch branch".
I belong to that church too! Lately, I have been listening to the whispers of a serpent named "Dyson". He tells me that I can rid myself of the Dust Mites with just a small donation of $500. What do you think?

I think I can hear him whispering too.

Public assistance is legal too. So why can they use loophole and it be fine with others but not public assistance?:confused3

I think the Duggar family is a cult within itself.

That Dyson is a sexy serpent, isn't he? I love his accent!

My opinion is that anyone who has a problem with this needs to ask themselves WHY. You aren't supporting their children. Others are doing A LOT WORSE with one, two, or three children whom you ARE supporting with your tax dollars. How about people get some perspective, stop being so insecure (that's all this is, people attacking others because of their own deep-seated insecurities), and MYOB! I'm not saying no one should talk about it, but this kind of vitriol and finger-pointing is BS!

I want to get into that racket. I would call my church "The Shrine of the Dust Mite - Holey Couch branch". We do have many pilgrims in and out praying at the kitchen door hoping God (or his high priestess) will drop a Freezer Pop into their outspread hands.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I could be a member of that church!

Remember Groucho Marx questioning the woman (on his TV game show) about her family?

Groucho: So, how many children do you have?

Woman contestant: Twelve.

Groucho: Twelve!

Woman: Well, I love my husband.

Groucho: Lady, I love my cigar, but I take it out of my mouth occasionally.

Growing up my best friend was one of ten children. A poor family, but very happy. The parents taught the children excellent values, and I never heard any complain of lack of attention, love, etc. When I attended the father's 70th birthday celebration a few years ago, the whole group showed up (save for the mother who died 27 years ago) along with spouses and enough grandchildren to satisfy even the most demanding grandparent.

I am a little surprised at the animosity showed to this family.

I think the reason you don't see them fight is that they have no sense of identity or self. They just conform into part of the collective (sorry, old Star Trek reference there;) ) I think if you don't nurture each child's own personal interest and make them all play violin, and make all the girls do laundry and cook, then this is what you get.... Simply Drones

I agree
the Star Trek reference is one i use often when i think of those kids

and dont get me started on those poor girls....its a cult and the sexes aren’t equal

A flat tax system will nto change the tax free status for churches. I'm for tkaing that away as well, but the flat tax system would not do that.

As for illegal, you may want to hold back on that. I suspect the only reason these people are getting away with their ripping of the community with their tax free status is because of Mr. Duggar's connections. Somebody might be able to talk some sense into the population in the area and they will finally have everybody in the area paying their fair share of taxes.

The Duggars are the ones inviting this commentary by offering their family for numerous TV specials. They have also "marketed" their family lifestyle in Dad's political campaign. The Duggars have enthusiastically entered the public eye and people are responding.
