I do hope she and the baby make it through this pregnancy without major complications, but what will happen to this brood if she dies? Will Jim Bob marry a new, younger woman to keep making babies?

She could have the others take care of her kids.
She could bring in the money.
They could all move into her home--Each wife could have a bedroom and they could make the basement into two dormitory sleeping rooms, one for boys and one for girls.
They could grow their own food.

Maybe they realized that these Duggar "discussion" threads are Duggar bashing threads full of unproven accusations. If someone doesn't see your point of view, just accuse them of mental illness or child abuse, right?
While some posters might see Michelle as mentally ill, others might think that someone who has multiple abortions as mentally ill. Can't the birth control argument go both ways?
This is not a lifestyle that I would ever choose, but it what they choose. And found a way to make it work. More power to them! I think there are many, many other people I would rather not exist than another Duggar.

They "make it work" because they are paid big bucks by TLC. If I had a TV network supporting everything I did (lavish vacations, as well as a "regular" paycheck, etc), I could support 20 children, too.

I think she makes her answers very carefully. Notice how she looks at Jimbob while she speaks, as if he's affirming it's ok what she's saying somehow?

I would really love to hear what the girls have to say about everything, away from their parents and totally free to express their thoughts. I'd be curious if they think it's all sunshine and rainbows that Michelle is having another baby.

They set up their home as a church for the tax deductions. I would consider that "mooching".

That is 100% untrue & I have linked in other posts their tax payment records for their home. They paid over $8k last year on their house & property. If you want to hate them fine, but don't spread false nonsense. That just irritates me.

The only thing surprising about this thread is that there are this many people who still don't get their stance on children and birth control. They've been pretty clear on their beliefs.

Yes, they have and I was not surprised of the announcement. As I sit here with my 2 kids who aren't near as behaved as the Duggars, I find it hard to make too many bad comments. I DO watch the show on a regular basis. How many of the people that have posted comments here watch????

I did not realize that watching the Duggar's show was a prerequisite for posting thoughts and opinions on a couple who announced their 20th pregnancy on national television.

If you watch the clip the smile of the son that is sitting beside Michelle when she makes the announcement is very delayed and very anemic. I don't think he's happy about this announcement at all.

I'm not a hater but I couldn't stand to watch more than a few episodes. There is something just so fake about her happy happy attitude (is she on valium or something).

I didn't have an issue with the number of children they were having until she started risking both her life and potentially the quality of life of the baby (ala Josie).

At some point, the Duggar couple should realize that God did not intend for them to keep having children but to care for the ones that they do have. Perhaps they need counseling on natural birth control methods if they don't want to interfere by using condoms, etc. So what is the record for live births in the Guinness book? Maybe they are trying to break that record or something. I wonder what their children think of the news? If it was me, I would be crying if I was one of the older ones because they are the ones that take care of the younger ones.

You know, back in the day there were actually posters who defended the Duggar lifestyle. Where did they all go?

I used to defend the Duggars here on the DIS Boards quite often. Not anymore. In fact, I recently felt compelled to start a thread about it.

I think that the children are all very lovely people. I'll leave it at that.

With the world population at 7 billion and increasing concerns about natural resources, it is simply irresponsible for someone to have this many children and for the press to glorify it. I wish Mrs. Duggar an uneventful pregnancy and a healthy baby. If she wants another child after this one, I hope that she and her husband look into adoption.

Michelle's benefits would be determined by her work history and payments to SS. Since she hasn't really worked outside the home, she wouldn't have paid into the system and therefore wouldn't be eligible. In addition to that benefits do have a cap and each child's benefit would be reduced so that the total amount received would be at the cap. They would just be cashing a lot of smaller checks if she was eligible for benefits.
