Duggar surprise?

I can't imagine how Michelle is planning to care for another newborn when Josie still needs so much care herself. ]

Well that one is easy: just pawn off new baby to a "buddy" ,because the girls need more practice of cleaning up nasty diapers, spit up. lol
With Josie, I think Michele was more hands on, but before then "here's a buddy".

They set up their home as a church for the tax deductions. I would consider that "mooching".

Do they provide services to the congregation or is it just them? If they provide a space for Mass (do they call it Mass?), and also provide other services that religious organizations do, then I don't see it as mooching. If its just their family who are members of the congregation and they are the only ones benefiting from "their Church" it would be a different story.

Their home as a church? Are you serious? Because they have 19 kids, that's considered their congregation?

That really takes the cake! Hmmm ... I wonder if I can become an ordained minister and set my home up as a church for tax deductions???
In fairness, they do have other people in the congregation. They also rent out their church ... I mean home ... for church-related events and the financial thing JimBob does.

Yeah, I remember how much "fun" my c-section was..

Im sorry but she just doesn't know the difference between mothering and just giving birth. No one can convince me that these 19-20 kids have had a real mother. There is no way you can take care of this tribe and give these kids the attention they need when you 1) have to spread is around this many and 2) you are always pregnant.

I keep saying 20 in my head, but heck, after 19, what's one more? Geesh!

I agree completely. I have no respect for these people. I've never watched any of their shows. But it seems whenever they want attention or more money, they have another baby. From what I've seen with this family, I get the impression that the older kids tend to the younger ones. I feel sorry for those children. ALL of them!:sad2:

Mass is a Catholic church service.

That must make it easy to have more babies. Constant live-in nannies.:sad2: You know, my grandmother comes from a large family, she was the oldest and therefore had to care for all the younger siblings. What do you think she did when she hit 18? Left home, lickety-split. Makes me wonder what's going through the minds of some of these older Duggar girls who are forced to care for any new baby Michelle has.:confused3

I have caught a few episodes of this show and do not claim myself to be a Duggar expert. Are the kids homeschooled? Who teaches them? If it's Michelle who teaches them, when does she have the time especially when there's a newborn or two around? And if they're home schooled, how do they do their school work and raise their mom's smaller kids?

Then having other congregation aside from family is much better IMO, and far less "moochier".

They do a lot of online homeschool work. I've seen the older girls homeschooling some of the younger ones too. Looks like Michelle has a pretty decent set up then...she pops out babies and then hands them off.

I'll never forget a couple of years ago when Michelle showed their "chart" for time with mommy. She tried to give each child a block of time and it was an actual chart, if you can believe it. I'm thinking that if you have to schedule time to be with your children like that, then you really aren't spending quality time with them. How can you? And that was before Josie was born and required more of Michelle's time and care.

You know, back in the day there were actually posters who defended the Duggar lifestyle. Where did they all go?

Maybe they realized that these Duggar "discussion" threads are Duggar bashing threads full of unproven accusations. If someone doesn't see your point of view, just accuse them of mental illness or child abuse, right?
While some posters might see Michelle as mentally ill, others might think that someone who has multiple abortions as mentally ill. Can't the birth control argument go both ways?
This is not a lifestyle that I would ever choose, but it what they choose. And found a way to make it work. More power to them! I think there are many, many other people I would rather not exist than another Duggar.

There was a similar situation in the Chicago area (with Lake Michigan frontage, I believe) where the owner declared the mansion to be a church. It went to court and if I remember correctly, he lost the case and was still responsible for paying the back property taxes. I think that 2 years worth of property taxes came to around 1/4 of a Million dollars!:scared1:

Or maybe they all just agree with us now

I watched the show a couple times but it bothered me so much I couldn't stand it; somehow seemed insincere and sickeningly sweet!

Coming from a family of 5 and raised Catholic I grew up around large Catholic families of the '60s and '70s. One of my best friends was the oldest girl of 12 children (all girls until the last 4) and this was a wonderful family; nothing like the Duggars. They eventually went on to have two more children after moving away to another state. Medical note here: They did finally find that my friend's mother ovulated twice each cycle which ruined the rhythm method for them!

I spent time with my friend in this home overnight and on weekends and in Scouts etc. This family loved each child individually and while the older girls did help with the house and laundry etc. all kids went to Catholic school and most to college while Mom stayed home. Sadly, one toddler drowned many years after I was grown but this family was pretty much normal.

Other large families I grew up around like my godparents were not like the Duggars either! Some had 8 or 10 children and struggled with money but many of the Dads worked for the government or a contractor since we were in the Washington, DC metro area. Many of the mothers it seemed were pregnant year after year and definitely had health issues but they all stopped having children in their early 40s or so.

In fact, my mom and I were just discussing this topic about two months ago when she received a notice on Facebook from an acquaintance. Even though we were the Baby Boomer generation we had parents who had the common sense to quit having babies at some realistic point!

Too bad they didn't stick to 2 or 3. Then Michelle could have gotten a job and been out of the house for up to 10 hours a day. Subtract time for sleep, housework, cooking, laundry, etc., and she would have had a couple of hours to lavish on the children.

oh right....because that would be the only other option? :confused3

The only thing surprising about this thread is that there are this many people who still don't get their stance on children and birth control.:confused3 They've been pretty clear on their beliefs.

I get it....but still think it's crazy. God gives people free will...and doctors and birth control etc...

Jim Bob is a creeper, always. I recall him saying Michelle had "baggage" from a previous boy in high school that she kissed, ooh she kissed someone, i'd hate to think what he would think about my "baggage" lol.

.

I saw the "baggage" show...and that is just ridiculous. They said that if you have too many relationships before you are married you "give a piece of your heart away" and so your heart becomes SMALLER to give to someone else...huh??? I always found that the more you give your love away, the more you are able to love again.

With the world population at 7 billion and increasing concerns about natural resources, it is simply irresponsible for someone to have this many children and for the press to glorify it. I wish Mrs. Duggar an uneventful pregnancy and a healthy baby. If she wants another child after this one, I hope that she and her husband look into adoption.

From http://moms.today.msnbc.msn.com/_new...pregnant-again :

They lined the family up on the staircase for a photo, she recalled, and Jim Bob said, "Smile -- Mom's going to have another baby!"

"Their mouths dropped," Michelle said, laughing at the memory. "They all looked at me to see if he was joking."
I can only imagine what was running through the older kids minds. I'm sure the older ones were not looking forward to raising more.

And, he adds, "We didn't want to stop on an odd number."
Stop? Since when is there a stop when they believe that God will grant them as many babies as He wishes? :confused3 That makes no sense. Why would you stop if you believe that it's God's will?

I can only imagine what was running through the older kids minds ...

More work. That's probably what went through their minds. Well that and probably fear after seeing how ill Michelle and Josie both were when she delivered.

Seriously, a woman's uterus is not a clown car, yes? At some point, babies are going to stop coming out of it. I'm sure her uterus is like..."really, really?? We already did this 19 times, how about a break for once."
