I think I read that some people put duct tape on the bottom of their feet to prevent blisters. Doers it really work?

Now there is one use for duct tape I had not heard of. I too wonder if it works.

I have never done it personally...I always used mole skin...but when I was in the military (USMC) I saw guys do it...not for the faint of heart or tender of foot! The glue can stay there for days and days.

I have heard that runners use it to prevent blisters. I think there is a blurb about it in the UG.

OUCH!

Haha

I would think that was not too good for your feet. The skin needs to breath and that duct tape will prevent that from happening. I could be mistaken, but there is my 2 cents.

Wearing duct tape on your feet is mentioned in the Unofficial Guide. (p. 337-2004 guide) I wasn't sure if they were serious or not, so I sheepishly tried it one shopping day pre-WDW trip. It didn't work for me; my feet were a bit sore when I took the tape off from where the tape had been stuck to my feet. Has anyone else tried?

Scientists have recently found out that using duct tape on warts is a lot more effective than treating them with liquid nitrogen.

Not the same as using duct tape to prevent blister, but it's a fun fact nevertheless.

Good one mathmagic! I totally agree - have seen lots of BAD shoes on people at the parks and wonder what the %^&* they were thinking when they got dressed. You know you are doing alot of walking so where good comfortable shoes - who cares what they look like? Are the fashion police watching? :earseek:

grodgers49, yes, the duct tape works. And a little dab of petroleum jelly between the toes does wonders, too. The trick with the duct tape is to use small (about 2") squares on the bottom of the feet, and small pieces on the toes where you tend to blister.

I've walked more than 50 miles in 3 days at WDW with the duct tape, without blistering at all. Good shoes are probably more important, though, as the tape is an aid. Make sure you have good shoes, first.

The glue is sticky, however. I've got some socks that still retain vestigal remnants of the stuff more than a year later. (And yes, they've been washed.) :p

But that would be logical, no?

haven't used it on my feet but i duct taped my fridge door on since the seal broke.
that duct tape really works and it is so much cheaper than buying a new fridge.::yes::

I am a duct tape advocate (did you know colored duct tape is available?) but balk at the idea of using it to prevent blisters. It doesn’t ‘breathe’ (which is fine for killing warts) and typically leaves residue (“Oh, Pumbaa darling, before we ‘Feel the love tonight’ will you rub some of this ‘Goo Gone’ on my heels?”)

Having participated in the Disney Marathon, I thought some ideas from the running world could prove effective in taking care of your dogs:

Shoes : Find a store that specializes in running gear and get ‘fitted’ by a true professional (search for “Specialty Running Stores” at www.RunnersWorld.com). You rarely find real pros at the malls. Let them know your needs and budget (they may even have some options on the clearance shelf but that’s not a place to start).

You will likely find yourself “sized up” a half- or whole-size larger. This is a good thing especially with regards to getting more room in the “toe box” of your shoe.

Also, this is not a time to get hung up on fashion. You will get more admiring glances by waiting in line with happy feet than you might ever achieve by being trendy.

Socks : In a theme park, 100% cotton socks are not your friends. Once wet, they tend to stay wet. I am a big fan of the double-layer, “blister-free” running socks. These are typically a polypro blend and allow the outer layer to contact the shoe lining while your foot is protected by the inner layer. Both layers are relatively thin so the socks are not bulky at all.

You will also find these at the running store and let the shoe folks know that’s what you’ll be wearing. They do shrink after washing and drying cycles so get larger sizes here, too.

If possible, change socks at mid-day if possible (carry a pair in a zip-loc and seal up the dank ones). Polypro responds well to sink washes with shampoo at the hotel but the socks will not hang-dry in just one night.

I find it helps to take a couple regular aspirin before and during the day. I enjoy a little caffeine boost so I tend to opt for it in beverages throughout the day.

I wore very comfortable broken in sneakers to WDW for our 12 day trip. By the end of the 4th day I had blisters on the bottoms of my feet by my toes. I have been to disney many, many, many, times and this is the first time I ever had blisters. So in response to what you said above, it doesn't always work. I was smart enough to wear comfortable shoes that I wear all the time at home and even brought an extra pair of worn sneakers and still got blisters. I to have laughed and pointed at some of the shoes some people were, wondering..... if I had blisters wearing sneakers, what must there feet look like and the end of the day!

Moles skin worked so I could walk with out great discomfort.

I used duct tape for the first time this year and had no blisters. Usually I have blisters under blisters! I got the purple kind at walmart and so my feet looked a little more festive than the gray look! I just put pieces of it right where I am prone to blisters and had no problem. Never have had no blisters so was thrilled with the results!:Pinkbounc

Don't go wild with it. My husband wrapped it all the way around my foot in Hawaii and when it came off the top of my foot, so did the skin there. I won't be using it again.

I use corn starch inside my socks. It helps prevent athletes foot and also helps with blisters. However if your feet sweat a lot you may want to chance your socks continously throughout the day. I used corn starch on our last trip to WDw. I did get blisters under two of my toes. This was due to my socks being soaked and I failed to change them. But I did not get blisters any where else. I usually always end up with blisters blisters blisters. So I think the corn starch really worked.

OK, I've posted this before, but I have had excellent results using a moisterizing cream called "Shea It Isn't SO", shea butter from Bath & Body Works. It totally eliminated the same pesky blisters I have gotten in years past.

Worth a try everybody!
