DS must ride TMR... any tips

The highlight of our trip for youngest ds is riding TMR at MK. He loves trains and is crazy to ride this. I know it is a popular ride and was wondering if anyone had any tips on shortening our wait time?

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has fastpass available. What we do is go to BTMR and ride first thing after the park is open, then we get a fastpass and go over to Splash Mountain. Then we go back to BTMR and ride again when our fastpass time is available. There usually isn't a long line there or at Spl. Mt. until about 10:00-10:30 on non-EMH mornings and that's in June or July during summer's busy season.

Just make sure he is tall enough, so you don't have any major disapointments.
