Was down in the world this past weekend and saw something I had never seen before. On Saturday there were large numbers of drunk people in Epcot. I've been to Epcot many times and even on this trip had a couple of drinks (I mean who can turn down a Grey Goose slushie), but I stop well before inebriation. We ran across multiple groups who were loud, obnoxious, and literally to the point of stumbling and spilling their drinks on other people. It was not cool. Last time I checked if you wanted to get silly drunk at Walt Disney World that's what Pleasure Island was for. Wondering if anyone else has seen this or if it was a fluke.

I saw this in October when I was visiting. Granted, it was Food and Wine Festival but I was surprised at how sloppy drunk some of the people were. Guys walking around in viking helmets spilling beer down their shirts, girls tripping on the curbs and falling down, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I love to throw down some drinks in Epcot but I guess I'm always aware of there being kids nearby and I don't want them to see a bunch of drunks staggering around.

Yes, we've seen this kind of thing sporadically (thank goodness) over the years (and for quite a number of years.)

At IllumiNations, you may find that you're standing near one or two folks who can barely stand, let alone ENJOY the show.

Very, very sad.

The good thing is that there are SO MANY guests there, that you may not encounter the "fools" directly on any particular night.

Yep seen drunks at Epcot many times. Just try to steer clear of them. Most memorable was Christmas Eve one year waiting for Illuminations in England at the Rose and Crown. We were eating outside and this group came in and was going to stand in front of us. He was very drunk and my kids were elementary age. He started cursing out the CMs that told him and the reat of his party to leave and threatening to assault the CMs. His friends quickly removed him from the area.

Last summer we went to Epcot and there was a group of 10 college age kids riding around on EVC's One hand had the drinks and one on the steering. They where hitting things and laughing. One got off his evc and fell over they where all blitzed beyond the point of it being Ok. I have never seen that much excessive drinking and never have I seen anyone driving an EVC while drunk.

This has become very common. Walt Disney would not be proud.

Jeesh. That must cost a fortune at those prices!!

All I can think is these folks either have a lot of money to spend, as the cost of drinks is so expensive, or they are very light weight drinkers and one drink does them in. Sometimes people, who usually don't drink, do drink at Disney because they are on vacation and don't have to drive. My guess is the average person does not go to Disney to "party" and get drunk.

I don't know what the temps are like down there right now, but if I were drinking in the hot sun it would put me in a coma. Can't do it, much less drive an EVC. Nuts, I say.

Unfortunately I know that one crew was there to drink. They were wearing "Drinking Around the World" shirts, with a checklist of all the countries on the back. They weren't pretty when we saw them in America. By the time we saw them again in UK they were in awful shape and nothing I'd want a child to see.

We once met a Drinking Around the World group that was nearly done when we saw them and were very, very, very smashed. Thankfully they were happy drunks...a bit loud, but not causing a disturbance and interesting to talk to (at least as much as we could understand them). I was amazed at the amount of liquor they had consumed. I'd be on my butt before I was even halfway around the world. A big ol' Mexican margarita or two is plenty for me.

Only during Food&Wine and only on Sat. night have I seen folks who were snot slingin' drunk at Epcot. I saw a drunk gal punch a total stranger (female) at the first Comedy Warehouse show on New Year's Day 2005, security was all over her quickly, and a large drunken basketball fan almost went over the railing leaving the bar at POR last March, but that's it in 10 years of WDW trips, excepting my own elbow bending, of course.

I've only seen drunks at PI and the Boardwalk. I'm sure they exist at Epcot, I just haven't encountered them. I'm from a college town so maybe I'm desensitized to this sort of thing.

We've run into one or two groups during F&W wearing the drink around the world shirts. A few of them were pretty loaded - to the point where they were having trouble walking. This was in Canada so if they started in Mexico I guess they'd had more than a few drinks by then. One time we shared a bus with a very inebriated man wearing a Viking helmet. We'd seen him at Epcot earlier and noticed him because he was asking total strangers "What's in your wallet" - that was when the Viking Capital One ad was very popular. He ended up on our bus to Saratoga Springs. He was very happy, singing and trying to get the rest of the bus to sing along with him. We were pretty glad that we were the first bus stop at Saratoga as we were tired of him by then. I think the bus driver was hoping that he would get off there too.

We've enjoyed more than a few drinks at Epcot but the prices would stop me from getting that drunk. I'm the family cheapskate!

You'll see the drunks waiting for Fantasmic at the Studios too. We've seen more than a few there as well.

I have seen the Food & Wine Festival criticized greatly for this.
We have been to the F & W 6 times and never observed lots of drunks.
I am sorry you had a bad visit.
Maybe there needs to be CM training, like in bars, where you do not serve someone who is obviousy drunk.
Too bad it has come to this

I've seen quite a good bit of drunks by evening time when I go to the EPCOT Food and Wine festival. Often people discount how dehydrated they are on a long day in the parks so they can't hold their alcohols as they might normally.
